Time for challenge no 5

Driver:Shotamagee
Car: Volvo 240 GLT Estate

Upgraded as per challenge 3 with 150kg ballast @ +50
Time: 1:42.964

I'm going to be a bit late posting the results for this challenge as I am out of town for 2 days. Is tis okay and will I lose any points?

Car-less Clarkson went to the trouble of finding a 330lb man, and was ready to set a time with him riding shotgun until the last minute rule clarification. Clarkson was unable to convince the fat man to ride in the trunk, so had to settle for some bags of cement instead. This had more effect on the handling than his previous efforts with the suspension, introducing massive lift-off oversteer! He did however manage to set a decent time of 1:36.154.

Captain Careless sourced a nice set of suitcases that just happened to fit snuggly in the back, and when filled with clothes (and the odd encyclopedia) also conveniently weighed 150kg. He set a laptime of 1:38.651 whilst carrying his posh luggage, and noted that "the extra weight fixed the mistakes he had made by fitting that turbo. The predictable handling was back".

The Clampster didn't need to do much to find his ballast. He just threw most of the interior that he had previously removed into the trunk and left it at that. A leisurely 1:46.613 was his best time which it was suggested was due to him "taking it easy so as not to kill himself with all those parts flying around". He was forced to admit however that "that's as fast as it would go. There's just not enough power in the big Honda".

No, you will not lose any points as you have a valid reason. Have fun!

Time for challenge number 5

Car: Nissan Stagea 260RS Autech Version

Upgraded with 150kg ballast at the rear
Time: 1:37.269

Having the ballast at the rear increased rear traction and reduced the understeer especially at the last corner. Also, I was driving more agressively like a courier.

Yeah I've gotta say the ballast in the rear probably helped me, as I was about to post my time with ballast in the middle, when the clarification came through. My car rolls like a boat on the high seas, so when I was using 2nd coming out of the hairpin my inside rear tyre would break traction, so I was just using 3rd, but with the ballast in the boot I was able to use 2nd exiting the hairpin, which was probably good for about 0.2 of a second. It also meant the front didn't scrape the ground as much.

Hellooooooooooooooooooooo

Looks like the producers have gone off and left us.

Anyone up for another round? I have 2 more ready to go.

I would, but shouldn't we wait for SVX to wrap this one up. We lost at least one driver asking to join in the last overlap or something like that.

Sorry guys, I've been lazy. New round will come after school today. Any ideas for the round?

A rush hour traffic round.

Up the ballast to 200 kg
Set to +25 to +30

Use the Family Cup for New York
Set difficulty to +2

Either do by PM or vs the bot with ballast.

Or do one on wet Tsukuba to see how all weather they are. Do it with or without ballast.

I wanna try to exemplify the Volvo driving soccor mom, so yeah maybe something with the AI around a city circuit so I can ram them off the road, while screaming at the kids in the boot, running the red lights and doing my hair in the rear view mirror all at the same time. Thats what stationwagon drivers do right?

Ultimatly just do what you want but;
- Whatever you think sums up a stationwagon; just try to put that into a challenge
- Thats 5 challenges so far, how many more do you plan to do?
- Long breaks kinda kill the momentum of these things (48 hours per challenge, then move on)

Sorry guys for the lateness of this next round.

You were sent to race around Special Stage Route 5 again, while you were in the middle of your delivery. You will be given points on each half a second you were faster/slower.

BH-21 was first to set his time as always, lapping a 1'36.652, which is not that much slower! That's 0 points.
GrumpEone then set a few laps, getting a 1'41.239. That's 3.5 seconds slower, that gets him -7.5 points.
Shotamagee then set a lap, getting a 1:42.964. That's almost 2 seconds slower, that's -4 points.
Car-less then next arrived at the special stage, and clocked a 1:35.906. That's half a second slower. That gets him 0 points.
Korza493 then next arrived at the special stage, and got a 1:37.269. That's almost half a second faster. That's 0.
Runfromcheney Has not yet posted his time.

Captain Car-less set a 1:38.651 with his "normal" Toyota. That's 0.200 seconds slower. That's 0.
The Clamster arrived in his Honda, setting a 1:46.613. That's about 0.600/0.700 seconds slower. That's 0 points.

Final Round
This time, you will race around Cathedral Rocks Trail II with the same amount of ballast. The GT-R with 8% less bhp in arcade mode (301bhp) lapped this in 1'16.675. You will be awarded points in how much faster/slower you are than the Skyline. You have 48 hours.

Top Gear Comparo #7: Station Wagon - Round 5

Track: Cathedral Rocks Trail II
Car: Subaru Impreza Wagon WRX STi Version VI '99
Time: 1'14.804
Course Style: Normal
Tires: DT
Upgrade Level: Light
Horse Power: 358 (Oiled)
Driver: BH-21

For this round, the Clampster went first in his Honda Odyssey. He started by strapping the parts in the back down to stop them from moving around before running three reasonably clean laps that saw a best time of 1:20.000 exactly! This was photo worth, but as my brother has borrowed my camera that wasn't possible.

Next up was Captain Careless in the Toyota Caldina. As his luggage was a snug fit and held in place behind the rear seats and below the parcel shelf there was no need to strap it down. The handling was a little less predictable than on paved roads, but that didn't stop him from setting a fast time of 1:14.109.

Finally it was time for Carless Clarkson in the Subaru Impreza. He figured that the bags of cement were heavy enough to stay put by themselves, and went straight out onto the track.

On the first lap he spun and speared straight into the side of the track. After lifting the car off of the verge, cable tying the front bumper back on and replacing a radiator hose he went back out for another try.

This time he spun and went backwards into a rockface. The rear bumper was thrown in the back on top of the now unbagged cement, and the nearside rear fender was bent back with a crowbar to free up the wheel.

On the third attempt he went hard into a verve sideways. The drivers door had to be opened with the crowbar, and a window net was fitted by the crew while he had some painkillers and a little lie down.

By the time he managed to complete a lap without having to stop and fix some part of the car, there wasn't an undented panel left. Two more sucessful (but still not totally clean) laps and he had to stop as he was running out of daylight, and had already broken all of his headlights and taillights.

As he clambered, swearing from the car he caught sight of the mountain and said he wanted to push his car off the top of it and watch it smash onto the ground below. Unfortunately there was no way of getting his car up there so he had to satisfy himself with dropping it on its roof from the telehandler that had lifted him back onto the track after the first failed lap.

When offered his laptime he said he didn't care. "It's not like I was driving the car anyway" he said. "It was as if I was the ball in a pinball table, going wherever it wanted, and only sometimes was this the direction I wanted it to go". "Well maybe you shouldn't have messed with the suspension then" said the others, "but you still managed to beat us with a blisteringly quick 1:08.746".

Top Gear Comparo #7: Station Wagon (Round 6)

Mitsubishi LEGNUM VR-4 Type V '98

Track: Cathedral Rocks Trail II
Car: Mitsubishi LEGNUM VR-4 Type V '98
Time: 1'14.358 (273 HP)
Course Style: Normal
Tires: DT
Horse Power: 367 HP (w/ Oil Change)
Driver: GrumpEone

I sure hope those Dirt Tires were free from the producers, or else I really over-spent, by 22,000 CR anyway. :)

Gosh, after not having a wheel for a couple years, it's almost like re-learning how to race, now that I have one again. But I am starting to get used to how this wheel reacts, and which sensitivity settings to use, comes in very handy for rally/drifting.

Leaving the 150kg of junk in the trunk from the last challenge, I achieved a time of: 1:18.477 in the Volvo 240 GLT Estate.

While it is fun throwing nearly 2 tonnes of Volvo around a tight dirt track, it's not the most natural of environments for it to excel in.

Can we wrap this round up? We have lost a lot of momentum in the last week. Car-less has mentioned at least two rounds he has in mind. We have new drivers and old chomping at the bit to get rolling again.

I do have four questions before this begins again.
1. How do sales occur early on? Finding a used car the exact same as the "purchased" vehicle would be nearly impossible.
2. Can prize cars be purchased? The sell value of a car is 1/4 of it's purchase value (even though prize cars have no purchase value). For example, if a prize car sells at 250,000cr, could it be bought in this thread for 1,000,000cr as long as the buyer has it in-game?
3. Can concept cars be acquired?
4. Nitrous: Yea or nay?

1) I believe most of us regulars in the thread have millions of credits, and near full garages already. Those that do not usually have around 3 days to find an appropriate car.

2) Depends on the challenge. I did allow prize cars for the Muscle Car challenge, their value being 4.7x resale value. I also explained somewhere how a car with 0 miles on it should cost the usual 4x plus 15% sales tax.

3) Depends on the challenge. I don't recall them having been used so far, but they might be ok for some future challenges.

4) So far no, but it might be appropriate in future.

Come on SVX! Its been like 3 days since the last challenge ended and were still waiting for the results.

Sorry guys! I'm really lazy, aren't I?

Car-less then set a time in his death trap, clocking a 1:08.746. That's 7.929 seconds faster. That gets him 16 points.
GrumpEone then set a few laps, getting a 1'14.358. That's 2.317 seconds faster, that gets him 4 points.
Shotamagee then set a lap, getting a 1:18.477. That's 1.802 seconds slower, that's -4 points.
Korza493 then next arrived at the track, and got a 1:15.304. That's 1.371 seconds faster. That's 2.
Runfromcheney Has not yet posted his time.

Captain Car-less set a 1:14.109 with his "normal" Toyota. That's 2.561 seconds faster. That's 6 points.
The Clamster arrived in his Honda, setting a 1'20.000. That's 3.325 seconds slower. That's not bad compared to a GT-R .That's -6 points.
