While delightfully vague, here's what I got.

Name: Spyker C8 Laviolette
Power: 456 (w/o oil change) 478 (w/ oil change)
RPM: N/A
Drivetrain: N/A
Displacement: 4172cc
Weight: 1070 kg
Color: Black
Spyker-C8-Laviolette.jpg

Alternates:
Saleen S7

Tough choices for this one, there's a few supercars that I would have liked to enter. I was going to use the Zonda C12s, as I haven't driven a road version of the Zonda in GT4, but the damn thing had (just 1hp) to much power. (you can't always rely on figures in databases)

So I then decided to pick a car which has unrivaled (well in GT4 anyway IMHO) racing DNA, any guesses?

I chose the Ford GT Concept '02
Power: 507
Weight: 1451 Kg

Then I realized that the above description also fits the Porsche 911 pretty well, so as an alternate (unless someone wants it as a primary) I'll also test the RUF CTR "Yellow Bird" '87
Power: 493 (was 469)
Weight: 1150kg

Truth be told I couldn't decide which one to use so I picked both.

I'm actually weighing if I should run the Callaway C12 instead.

Never mind, I'm going to withdraw. I'm going to restart my GT4 game, for some reason I can't shake the feeling that all my GT4 stuff is fake. I don't know why. So I'll restart my game. See you until I can get better stuff once more.

Am I able to use the Nissan Skyline GT-R '01 Concpet (The Red Gran Turismo Car)? I am unsure about the specs but I will find them out when I get home tonight.

The Gran Turismo skyline '01 is a 541hp tuner, so nope.
The GT-R (Tokyo Show) '01 is a 455hp concept, so yes - after an oil change.

@ Hurricanine, It would have been nice to have you along. Hope to see you soon in another cheaper challenge.

I have done this properly and have brought an impecable 2001 Nissan GT-R Concept.

Name: Nissan GT-R Concept

Top Gear Comparason #8: 500hp Road Car

img0015b.jpg

You were sent out to find 500hp road cars.

BH-21 was quick to pull up in a Dodge Viper GTS '99 which sported 479hp after an oil change.
Nazzii soon followed in his Mercedes Benz SL 600 '04 with precisely 500hp.
GrumpEone went a similar route with a Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG '02 which also has precisely 500hp.
shotamagee went with the Ford GT Concept '02 with a little more at 507hp.
korza493 was last to arrive with a Nissan GT-R Concept '01 which was the least powerful at 477hp after an oil change.

BH-21C also decided to test the Dodge Viper SRT10 '03, newer and more powerful at 507hp.
GrumpEtoo also campaigned an Aston Martin Vanquish '04 which comes in at 490hp after an oil change.
GrumpEthree then brought a BMW M5 '05 to the table with 508hp.
shorthammondwee came in with the RUF CTR "Yellow Bird" '87 with 493hp after an oil change.

Hurricanine was going to campaign a Spyker C8 Laviolette '02 with 478hp after an oil change, and...
HurriCatTen was keen to try out the Saleen S7 '02 with a massive 558hp but he had to withdraw from this round.

Bonus Round 0

As with the 500hp Race Cars, you will score bonus points for choosing an underpowered vehicle. In this case 5 points for starting under 500hp, and another 5 points for still being under 500hp after an oil change.

BH-21 in the Viper GTS '99
Korza493 in his GT-R Concept '01

shorthammondwee with the Yellowbird '87
GrumpEtoo in the Vanquish '04
Hurricanine with the Spyker C8 '02

all score a maximum of 10 points in this round, everyone else scores 0 points.

Round 1: Hitting The Target

Again, like the 500hp Race Cars you lose points for missing the target of 500hp. This time, 1/2 point for every horsepower you were away from 500.

BH-21 was a little short in his Viper GTS '99 sporting 479hp after an oil change for -10.5 points.
Nazzii was right on target with his SL 600 '04 with precisely 500hp so losing 0 points.
GrumpEone was also right on target with his SL 55 AMG '02 with precisely 500hp so also losing 0 points.
shotamagee was slightly over in the Ford GT Concept '02 with 507hp for a score of -3.5 points.
korza493 was a little low in the GT-R Concept '01 with just 477hp after an oil change for -11.5 points.

BH-21C was slightly over with the Viper SRT10 '03 at 507hp for a score of -3.5 points.
GrumpEtoo was slightly under in the Aston Martin Vanquish '04 with just 490hp after an oil change for -5 points.
GrumpEthree went higher in the BMW M5 '05 with 508hp for a score of -4 points.
shorthammondwee was a little short in the Yellow Bird '87 with 493hp after an oil change for -3.5 points.
Hurricanine with the Spyker C8 '02 at 478hp after an oil change would have scored -11 points.
HurriCatTen was way off the mark in the Saleen S7 '02 with a massive 558hp which would have scored -29 points.

The Scores So Far

Code:
Driver Car Year	Bonus	Power	Total
=============================================================
Nazzii MB SL 600 '04	+0	-0	= 0
GrumpEone	MB SL 55 AMG '02	+0	-0	= 0
BH-21 Viper GTS '99	+10	-10.5	=-0.5
Korza493	GT-R Concept '01	+10	-11.5	=-1.5
shotamagee Ford GT Concept '02	+0	-3.5	=-3.5

shorthammondwee Yellowbird '87	+10	-3.5	= 6.5
GrumpEtoo Vanquish '04	+10	-5	= 5
Hurricanine Spyker C8 '02	+10	-11	=-1

GrumpEthree BMW M5 '05	+0	-4	=-4
HurriCatTen Saleen S7 '02	+0	-29	=-29

Round 2: Useability

How wide is your cars powerband? You will go to Power and Speed: Test course, and run the standing 1000m, but you will do so using only 3rd gear.

The E55 AMG takes 26.750s. Score +/- 1 point for each quarter second you are faster/slower.

You have 24 hours.

I think you should define that 3rd gear bit more. Do you start off in 1st Gear and run up to 3rd and no more or do you start in 3rd and stay in 3rd. I did it both ways.

Team Viper
Code:
Standing Start 1000m Run

Drivers & Cars 1st-3rd Gear 3rd Only
BH-21
Viper GTS '99 23.503 26.479

BH-21C
Viper SRT10 '03 22.740 30.613

Start in 3rd, stay in 3rd.

If my 1.4 Ford Fiesta with under 100hp can do 0-60mph like that in 12 seconds, none of these 500hp cars should have any problems...

Round 2: Useability

Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG (R230) '02
Time: 0'24.523

Aston Martin Vanquish '04
Time: 0'29.719

BMW M5 '05
Time: 0'26.951

Starting in 3rd and staying in 3rd for the entire 1000m: 0'27.241

The GT-R has a really short 3rd gear because it has a 7-speed sequential gearbox. Staying in 3rd limits it to 145kph at most.

I had the same issue with the alternate M5, Tops 3rd at 108 MPH, as opposed to 134 MPH for both the Vanquish And SL 55.

I made big mistake choosing SL600 insted of SL55 ;/ But love the V12 in that car :)
So the time is 0'27.558 (Maybe I should have spent more time to improve it...)

Round 2: Useability

You were sent to the Test Course to see how wide your cars powerband was. A 1000m drag race where you were to start in 3rd gear, and remain in 3rd gear for the full distance. You scored +/- 1 point for each quarter second you were faster/slower than the E55 AMG which set a time of 26.750s.

GrumpEone was fastest with a 0'24.523 in the SL 55 AMG. That's 2.227 seconds faster than the E55 AMG for +8 points.
BH-21 was the next fastest with a 26.479 in his Viper GTS. At just 0.271 seconds faster than the E55 he scores +1 point.
korza493 couldn't quite keep up. A 0'27.241 in the GT-R Concept is 0.491 seconds slower then the E55 for -1 point.
Nazzii was the slowest with a 0'27.558 in his SL 600. At 0.808 seconds slower than the E55 he scores -3 points.

GrumpEthree was just behind the E55 with a 0'26.951 in the BMW M5, just 0.201 seconds slower for a score of 0 points.
GrumpEtoo was way behind with a 0'29.719 in the Vanquish. A massive 2.969 seconds slower than the E55 costs him -11 points.
BH-21C was behind even that. A 30.613 in the Viper SRT10 is 3.863 seconds slower than the E55 for -15 points.

shotamagee has yet to set his times in the Ford GT Concept and the RUF Yellowbird.

Round 3: Deep Speed

A section of road deep in the forest has been closed so that you can test drive your cars. Go to Deep Forest, set a laptime and PM it to me. For comparason, the E55 AMG does a lap in 1:25.525.

No settings may be changed except for driving aids which are optional.

The slowest will score 0 points and the next slowest 5 points, increasing by 5 points for each faster car.

You have 24 hours.

Times Submitted...

Oddly enough , the SL55 outperformed the M5 and Vanquish, figured I would have finished M5, Vanquish, then SL55. Not bad for a convertible.

Sorry I was slow for the 1000m

My times 3rd gear only are:

Ford GT Concept: 23.877
RUF CTR Yellowbird: 25.119

I like the idea behind this test but maybe it should have been any 1 gear only, would be a bit more indicative, of what I think you were trying to do?

Round 3: Deep Speed

You were sent out to the woods today to see who could do the fastest lap.

The slowest scored 0 points and the next slowest 5 points, increasing by 5 points for each faster car.

shotamagee set the fastest lap at 1:18.918 in the Ford GT Concept for 20 points.
korza493 was the next fastest at 1:23.097 in his GT-R Concept for 15 points.
BH-21 was a few seconds behind at 1:27.101 in the Viper GTS for 10 points.
GrumpEone was just a sliver slower at 1:27.489 in his SL 55 AMG for just 5 points.
Nazzii was unfortunately slowest at 1:27.662 in the SL 600 scoring 0 points.

shorthamondwee was very quick at 1:20.541 in the RUF Yellowbird and would have scored 20 points.
BH-21C was very consistent, setting a 1:27.125 in the Viper SRT10 which would also have scored 10 points.
GrumpEthree didn't do so well with a 1:28.855 in the BMW M5 which would have been worth 0 points.
GrumpEtoo was behind everyone with a 1:28.893 in the Vanquish which would also have scored 0 points.

The Scores So Far

Code:
Driver Car Year	Bonus	Power	Drag	Lap	Total
=============================================================================
shotamagee Ford GT Concept '02	+0	-3.5	+11	+20	= 27.5
GrumpEone	MB SL 55 AMG '02	+0	-0	+8	+5	= 13
Korza493	GT-R Concept '01	+10	-11.5	-1	+15	= 12.5
BH-21 Viper GTS '99	+10	-10.5	+1	+10	= 10.5
Nazzii MB SL 600 '04	+0	-0	-3	+0	=-3

shorthammondwee Yellowbird '87	+10	-3.5	+6	+20	= 32.5
GrumpEthree BMW M5 '05	+0	-4	-0	+0	=-4
GrumpEtoo Vanquish '04	+10	-5	-11	+0	=-6
BH-21C Viper SRT10 '03	+0	-3.5	-15	+10	=-8.5

shotamagee is pulling away in front with both of his cars. Can anyone catch him?
BH-21 is demonstrating the fact that newer cars are not always better. The older Viper is beating the newer one despite it having less power and more weight!

Round 4: Race Pace

The producers have brought along some Racing: Medium tyres. Fit these to your cars and return to the track to see what your cars can do with some sticky rubber beneath them.

Score 1 point for every half second you gain.

No settings may be changed except for driving aids which are optional.

No other modifications are permitted as these are not the sort of cars that you can buy cheap and destroy. They will have to be returned to their rightful owners in the same condidtion as when they were borrowed.

Post your times in this thread. You have 24 hours.

When I drove these cars on the S2's the RUF was more tricky to drive, but when I switched to R3's the Ford became the one I had more trouble with. Both cars are a challenge to drive quickly (but more fun on the S2's) because MR & RR's drive trains are generally fast but not very forgiving.

Round 4: Race Pace

You were sent back out into the woods to see who could best improve their time with Racing:Medium tyres, scoring 1 point for every half second gained.

Nazzii made a massive improvement of 9.964 seconds in his MB SL 600 for 19 points.
BH-21 was next with an improvement of 6.570 seconds in the Viper GTS scoring 13 points.
korza493 did well, bettering his time by 6.436 seconds in the Nissan GT-R Concept for 12 points.
shotamagee improved on his time by 5.654 seconds in his Ford GT Concept gaining 11 points.
GrumpEone made the smallest gain, just 5.064 seconds with the SL 55 AMG for just 10 points.

BH-21C did better in the Viper SRT10 with an improvement of 6.893 seconds for 13 points.
GrumpEthree took the BMW M5 to a quicker time by 6.455 seconds to score another 12 points.
GrumpEtoo wasn't so quick in the Vanquish, a 5.581 second improvement nets 11 points.
shorthammondwee brought the RUF Yellowbird home to a 5.562 second improvement for 11 points.

The Scores So Far

Code:

=============================================================================
shotamagee GT Concept '02	+0	-3.5	+11	+20	+11	= 38.5

short'wee Yellowbird '87	+10	-3.5	+6	+20	+11	= 43.5
GrumpEthree BMW M5 '05	+0	-4	-0	+0	+12	= 8
GrumpEtoo Vanquish '04	+10	-5	-11	+0	+11	= 5
BH-21C Viper SRT10 '03	+0	-3.5	-15	+10	+13	= 4.5

The midfield is getting a bit crowded now with only 1.5 points seperating all but the fastest and slowest of the main cars.
The alternatives however are taking things to the extreme, the Yellowbird being fastest of all, and the other alternative cars sit right at the bottom of the scores.

Round 5: Back-Up

The E55 AMG can reach exactly 60mph in reverse gear - this is the speed limit on most roads in the UK.

See what your cars top speed is in reverse. This can be done wherever you like, but for safety sake I tested the E55 at the test course.

Score 1 point for every mph you are below the speed limit.
Lose 1 point for every mph you exceed the speed limit!

You have 24 hours.
