I went to set a laptime but this happened

I'm waiting for the dealer to give me a replacement car so lets hope it turns up in time.

Top Gear Comparason #9: Modern Convertibles
Round 2: Laptime
Car: Chrysler Prowler
Track: Tsukuba
Time: 1'04.265

I may be hosed for the remainder of the week. I have to travel out of the country tomorrow and will not be back till Friday night.:grumpy:

Contemplating throwing the PS2 into the suitcase and continuing on with this. Only problem is that I am terrible using a DS2 controller  (only used a wheel so far for GT3, GT4, and GT5), on top of that I do not know if and where I'll have internet service.

Maybe if the next challenge comes out tomorrow morning I can finish it before heading out around 10:30 AM US Central time.:sly:

I think it may have alfaitis
I managed a pitiful 1'07.601 in the alfa

After about 20 laps altogether, I finally managed to beat the target time. This car understeers!

Car: TVR Tamora
Track: Tsukuba
Time: 59.990

Wow this car is rapid, especially around tsukuba, its light, powerful and has surprisingly short gearbox ratios. So short I didn't use 2nd gear, (that spins the tyres anyway) as it pulls nicely even out of the tightest corners in 3rd gear.

Round 2: Laptime

Bob set a lap of 1:06.311 at Tsukuba in the Nissan 350Z Roadster which you had to try and beat.
Score 1 point for every full second you were faster, lose 1 point for every second slower.

shotamagee was the fastest in his TVR. A laptime of 0:59.990 is 6.321 seconds faster than Bob for 6 points.
Nazzii was the next quickest. His Caterham managed a 1:03.204 that at 3.107 seconds quicker than Bob gains 3 points.
N91KB was just a second behind in the Prowler with a time of 1:04.265. At 2.046 seconds quicker than Bob he scores 2 points.
Jet Badger was the next to finish in the S2000 with a time of 1:05.130. A full 1.181 seconds ahead of Bob he scores 1 point.
SVX after many attempts in his Lexus managed to beat Bob with a 1:06.225. Just 0.086 seconds quicker he scores 0 points.
BH-21 wasn't so lucky in the BMW Z4. A laptime of 1:06.630 was 0.319 seconds slower than Bob, but still scores 0 points.
korza493 had trouble putting the power down in his Alfa. A time of 1:07.601 was 1.290 seconds behind Bob scoring -1 point.

The Scores So Far

Code:
Driver Car	Year	Price	Lap	Total
=====================================================
Jet Badger S2000	'03	+12	+1	+13
N91KB Prowler	'02	+10	+2	+12
shotamagee TVR '02	+5	+6	+11
Nazzii Caterham	'02	+8	+3	+11
SVX Lexus '01	+8	+0	+8
korza493 Alfa '01	+9	-1	+8
BH-21 BMW Z4	'03	+4	-0	+4

There's not much in it at the top of the scores, but the BMW Z4 is suffering a bit from costing so much.

Round 3: Wet Lap

Any car, whether fixed roof or convertible should keep the rain out.
We cannot test how your soft tops perform in the rain, but we can see how well your cars drive in the rain.
Return to Tsukuba, but this time run the Wet version. Lose 1 point for every full second you are slower than your dry time.

Good Luck. You have 24 hours.

Whoa, I really spaced on this one, oh well, I guess I can sit and watch one for a change. I'm rooting for the US Car, go Prowler!!

Time: 1'15.151
Car: Lexus SC430
BHP: 293bhp
Track: Tsukuba Circut - WET
Direction: Normal
Upgrade level: Stock w/ oil change
Driver: SVX

I got hold of an impeccable replacement Alfa Romeo Spider in blue and managed to set a time of 1'20.563 before the engine over heated.

Then the rear suspension collasped.

And then I backed it into someone's house when the clutch failed and lurched at high-speed in reverse into someone's precious house on Beacon Hill.

Damn Alfaitis!

Round 3: Wet Lap

You were sent back out onto a wet track to see how your cars handle in the rain, losing 1 point for every second you were slower than your dry time.

SVX in the Lexus was closest to his dry time, a 1:15.151 was 8.926 seconds slower for -8 points.
BH-21 driving his BMW Z4 was also close, a 1:16.506 was 9.876 seconds slower for -9 points.
Jet Badger took the S2000 to a new time of 1:15.252, at 10.122 seconds slower he takes -10 points.
Nazzii got soaked in the Catherham, a time of 1:13.509 was 10.305 seconds slower for -10 points.
N91KB got a headstart in the Prowler, submitting a 1:15.566 by PM yesterday for -11 points.
shotamagee found the TVR to be more of a handful in the wet, a1:11.657 also takes -11 points.
korza493 managed to break his second Alfa, but not before setting a 1:20.563 for -12 points.

Round 4: Weighty Business

Convertibles are often known to be heavier than their hard topped counterparts due to extra bracing to retain their stiffness. Weight hinders fun and performance.
The Nissan 350Z roadster at 1,550kg is 230kg heavier than the coupe. Your cars will be weighed and compared to the 1,320kg 350Z coupe.
Gain 1 point for every 100kg lighter, lose 1 point for every 100kg heavier.

Nazzii chose the Catherham for its lack of weight. At just 369kg he takes +9 points.
shotamagee in the TVR also gains some points. 1,060kg is 260kg less than the 350Z for +2 points.
Jet Badger with the S2000 has a weight of 1,270kg. At just 50kg less than the 350Z he scores +0 points.
N91KB with the American Prowler weighing 1,287kg is also just a bit lighter than the 350Z for +0 points.
BH-21 in his BMW Z4 is just a little heavier at 1,365kg. However, 45kg is not too much, he loses -0 points.
korza493 must be regretting his choice. The Alfa at 1,450kg is 130kg heavier than the 350Z for -1 point.
SVX chose the heavyweight Lexus. A massive 1,730kg makes it heavier than the 350Z coupe and the Caterham combined for a miserable -4 points.

The Scores So Far

Code:
Driver Car	Year	Price	Lap	Wet	Weight	Total
=====================================================================
Nazzii Caterham	'02	+8	+3	-10	+9	+10
Jet Badger S2000	'03	+12	+1	-10	+0	+3
shotamagee TVR '02	+5	+6	-11	+2	+2
N91KB Prowler	'02	+10	+2	-11	+0	+1
SVX Lexus '01	+8	+0	-8	-4	-4
BH-21 BMW Z4	'03	+4	-0	-9	-0	-5
korza493 Alfa '01	+9	-1	-12	-1	-5

The featherweight Caterham has pulled out a bit of a lead while the FWD Alfa and heavyweight Lexus have fallen towards the bottom of the table. Is this how it will end, or will the more refined cars manage to claw their way back up the board?

Round 5: Top Out

When the weather takes a turn for the worse you want your roof to go up as quickly as possible. We cannot test the speed of your roof in GT4, but we can test the speed of your car. Go to the Test Course: Max Speed event and post your top speed. Slowest scores 0 points, then 5, 10, 15 etc.

Good Luck. You have 24 hours.

I was offered a replacement Alfa 166 but it wouldn't start so the dealer decided to replace it with a 3rd Spider which then managed a mighty 150 MPH top speed.

Well i was thinking that it won't be fast but i was wrong, it did 154 MPH First gear is amazingly long i managed around 80 MPH with it :D

Thank you very much for keeping this round open, Car-less!

My speed: 172.70 mph.

Round 5: Top Out

You were sent to the Test Course to test the top end of your cars performance, the slowest scoring 0 points, then 5, 10, 15 etc.

SVX* had the fastest car, the Lexus managing a whopping 172.70 mph for 30 points.
BH-21 wasn't too far behind in the BMW Z4 at 165.46 mph taking 25 points.
Jet Badger took the S2000 to a top speed of 163.75 mph** to score 20 points.
shotamagee brought the TVR in to a speed of 156.79 mph for 15 points.
Nazzii did better than he expected, the Caterham topping out at 154 mph for 10 points.
korza493 suffered yet again in the Alfa with a lowly 150 mph scoring just 5 points.
N91KB brought up the rear in his Prowler at just 138.48 mph*** for 0 points.

Final Scores

Code:
Driver Car	Year	Price	Lap	Wet	Weight	Top	Total
=============================================================================
Jet Badger S2000	'03	+12	+1	-10	+0	+20	23
BH-21 BMW Z4	'03	+4	-0	-9	-0	+25	20
Nazzii Caterham	'02	+8	+3	-10	+9	+10	20
shotamagee TVR '02	+5	+6	-11	+2	+15	17
SVX Lexus '01	+8	+0	-8	-4	+30	[s][COLOR="DarkRed"]26[/COLOR][/s] 11
N91KB Prowler	'02	+10	+2	-11	+0	+0	1
korza493 Alfa '01	+9	-1	-12	-1	+5	0

The little Caterham slipped from its place at the top after showing its ancient roots, only to be replaced by the Lexus. However, a time penalty then dropped this down the standings, but not as low as the unreliable Alfa that sits right at the bottom of the board with no points!

Now at the top we see the sporty Honda S2000 followed closely by the BMW and Caterham in joint second place.

Well done Jet Badger. Back at the top for the first time since his debut.

For comparason, the cars I tested and their scores:

Code:
Car Price Lap	Wet	Weight	Top	Total
=============================================================
Caterham	+8 +1	-12	+9	+10	= 16
Nissan 350Z	+12 +1	-10	-2	+15	= 16
Peugeot 206cc	+14 -5	-10	+1	+0	= 0
Chevrolet SSR	+11 -4	-8	-9	+5	=-5

The 206cc was equally as bad as the Alfa, and the monstrosity that is the SSR managed a negative score.

* I couldn't score this round without all the results being in, so had to keep it open.
** Some earlier investigations showed that the game converts 1600m to 1 mile, or 0.625miles to 1km, and this is the conversion factor I now use.
*** Submitted by PM at the start of the week.

Now I've been having some issues with my browser sending 'Bad Requests', so might have trouble posting over the next few days. If somebody else runs a comparason this week, I'll try and enter, but I'm not confident enough to try and run one - I've already lost a couple of attempted posts today :(

Congrats Jet Badger! Sorry to here about your browser. How come I got a time penalty? I thought I had a good enough reason why I was late.

I will be away for a few days so whoever runs next weeks comparason, please can you wait for a few days to post the next comparason so I can compete.

Congrats Jet Badger on the win!

Congrats to Jet Badger and the Honda S2000, as well as all other entrants. It seems a few people have won on debut, I think Korza493 did recently? I know I did. And now you tell me Jet Badger did as well. Must be beginners luck? (I could go check for others but that's a little time consuming for a thread that's 26 pages long on my browser).

Thank you guys :) But the truth is that the Lexus would've been the winner it didn't get a penalty. Hm, interesting... Honda is probably my lucky thing. Earlier CRX and now S2000 :)
