BIG update here! I'm going to talk about my Tourist Trophy experience when I played this game at a GameCrazy store (Hollywood Video) on Saturday. So here's how it went...
The first track I raced was Deep Forest. Deep Forest is a tricky track for a car, but almost hell for motorcyclists. I wiped out about four or five laps in a one-on-one race. Closest I got to the other guy was about 1.8 seconds. My fortunes slightly improved as I did Tokyo R246 and Special Stage Route 5. A big reason was because I didn't have to worry about sand traps. Motorcycles are tricky to race in this game. At one point, I was tempted into racing the Ducati 999R. It had a sweet roar to it, plus it's pretty damn sexy, don't you think? I got used to some of the different riding positions. Since my motorcycle knowledge is very limited, I once did the normal setup, then tried the Leaning Forward thing. My biggest hook were the racing bikes. It was pure bliss racing some of these machines, as they are the ultimate in motorcycle racing performance. My sample runs were started off by the Suzuki GSX-R1000. Many of the bikes sound like actual bikes, even if they are a bit like rehashed GT sounds. I'm probably glad there were only four bikes to a track because I can't imagine facing 20 bikes while I'm flying off the track every which way. If I get Tourist Trophy, I'll have to enhance my skills because the casual gamer or GT veteran will find Tourist Trophy to be more like going back to school. The detail on the bikes are amazing. Notice all the different components of a bike visible. You also get to see what it's like to ride the bike at speed when you switch to your rider view. You can note the handlebars as well as the little dash inside. I couldn't find a certain number of rider gear when I started out. I normally like blue colors and red colors. I had racing blood in me, so I wanted to probably avoid the street clothes. Besides, I wanted to save the street clothes for that one bike which looks like one of those cruiser bikes.
Overall, it's a great game and a new experience. This franchise seems to be in the right direction. What PD will need to do is try to put more bikes on the track to make competition heated. I can probably say that they can tone down the detail a bit, but not make everything all blurry. I think no less than 8 bikes would be a start. A far-fetched number would be 24 bikes to a track. If you want almost ridiculous, somewhere past 24 bikes would be insane (especially as many bikes that race in the Daytona 250, or whatever it's called. I'm going to give this some love. (Final Verdict: 9.00/10.00)
