Tsukuba lap times for 136 N-class cars - 1 remaining

All these test are made with BOP Basic "Factory" setup.. ain´t they???

It would become even more interesting if the test would be "enlarged" to allow for the "upgraded" (more HP and less Weight) and also tuned cars... :)

I'd like to test every car at its maximum power and minimum weight, but I doubt I'll even finish what I've started. Life's getting in the way, and I'm installing Red Dead Redemption 2 right now, so I don't think I'll test anything else until PD tosses us a couple more cheap N-cars.

It's been almost 2 months since I sat in my racing seat. Felt good to lay down some virtual rubber this morning. I've been playing a game for the past few weeks that features one vehicle, and it only has one horsepower (hint: Red Dead Redemption 2)

Tested:

1:04.772 - Subaru Impreza 22B-STi
1:10.986 - Mini Cooper S

I started off with the Mini Cooper, to ease back into getting familiar with everything. I quickly learned the understeer on this car is the opposite of pleasurable. That said, on my 12th lap, I finally achieved the 1:10 that I knew was possible after the first few laps. It's less than half of a second slower than the Mazda Roadster.

I was now ready for the 22B. What a beast. It's mere thousandths of a second faster than the R32 GT-R and two tenths behind the R33. In fact, it's within one measly tenth of the newest STi.

Last two for today, and probably until the next update.

1:03.333 - Maserati GranTurismo S
1:07.225 - Jaguar E-type Coupe

The exhaust note of the Maserati is incredible. One of my favorites in GT Sport. I didn't care much for the car in GT6, but it's left a very positive impression on me in this iteration. It ties with Camaro SS and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S.

The Jaguar was...okay. If I had been alive back in the early 60s in the USA, I doubt I'd care about this car. I'd probably be more interested in the C2 Corvette, Datsun Roadster, or Volkswagen Bus. My tastes are varied, for sure.

Tested:

1:03.932 - BMW M3

Over a second slower than the M4. While the V8 M3 nearly matches the turbo M4 in horsepower, it lacks torques, over 100 ft-lbs of them, in fact. On top of that, the V8 car weighs 349 lbs more. Despite this, the M3 feels better (easier?) to drive around corners. And it's faster than the Mustang GT.

1:07.025 - Chevrolet Corvette C2

These old muscle cars only want to shred the tires. It's quite annoying to deal with when going for fast laps. I couldn't get a 1:06 so it joins the handful of other x:xx.0xx cars on the list for now...It's a half-second slower than the C3.

Of course I'm away for 30 days and what car do I win from the roulette? A worthless 1965 Mini Cooper S :(

Tested:

1:05.179 - Gran Turismo Greddy Fugu Z
1:08.397 - Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

That Z finishes its fastest lap alongside such icons as the Supra RZ and NSX Type R! Incredible.

The Firebird squeezes in between the Peugeot 208 GTi and Toyota 86. It looks cool, but it's not my style. It's got a massive 6,558 cc engine but only makes 219 hp. That's funny and sad at the same time. At least it has 321 torques...But the dang car weighs 3,616 lbs so it's just slow.

The F50 is way more predictable than the GTO. It has more grip and the throttle is more predictable (It is naturally aspirated versus basically the turbo V8 one will find in the F40). This makes the F50 more fun to drive on its limits (because of less mistakes) but I found it less fun to drive around when not pushing it to its limits.

(And with the right tune for the Mazda RX500 and a field without the LaFerrari about 2.000.000 an hour is possible. If one is interested, I could provide the tune I use)

Tested:

1:01.413 - Ferrari F50

The F50 was more of a childhood dream car for me than the F40. I was 11 when it came out, while I would've only been 3 years old when the F40 made its debut in 1987. The last time I drove one in a videogame was Need for Speed: High Stakes on the original Playstation. Loved it then, and I love it now.

Anyway, the F40 is 6 tenths faster than the F50, thanks to lighter weight and more torque. F50 handles better, and its power delivery is smooth. If I could own any Ferrari in real life, it would be difficult to not choose the F50.

It ties with the Diablo GT.

And I'm interested in the RX500 tune, @oinksnork

This is the setup I use for grinding BMB
Mazda RX 500

Power: 99%
Weight: 90%
Brake Balance: 5

tires: Racing super soft all around

Ride height 100mm; 100mm (Lowest possible)
Frequency 2.15Hz; 2.15Hz
Anti-Roll Bar 8; 6
Damping Ratio Compression 61%; 63%
Damping Ratio Rebound 92%; 93%
Camber angle (-) 1.5°; 0.3°
Toe angle: 0°; 0°

Differential: 60; 60; 60

Gearbox

1. Put auto set speed to 160 km/h, 99 mph
2. Put final drive to 5.500
3. put auto set speed to 150 km/h, 93 mph
4. put final drive to 2.773

Rest of the gearbox

1st: 2.481 (134 km/h, 83 mph)
2nd: 2.093 (159 km/h, 99 mph)
3rd: 1.785 (187 km/h, 116 mph)
4th: 1.520 (220 km/h, 137 mph)
5th: 1.298 (292 km/h, 181 mph)

Shifting points
3 -> 4 between 200 and 204 km/h (between 124 and 126 mph)
4 -> 5 between 236 and 239 km/h (between 146 and 149 mph)

How to drive it
Corner 1 start braking between the colour shift just before the 100m marker and the 100 m marker to between 200 and 195 km/h, shift down to 3rd. Draft til corner 3.
Corner 3 start braking around the 100 m marker until you hit 235 to 230 km/h, shift into 4th and try to get an exit speed of 225+ km/h and draft to corner 1
The car understeers a bit, but I am afraid that it will become super unstable with more front camber (so I might tweak it a little bit more) My record is a 48.260 lap and a sum of best of 48.193

Best I can do in the RX500 is 2nd place. That got me less money than using the Mercedes AMG GTS. I can't get clean race bonus because the AI is horrible and I don't have the patience. So I'm stuck earning 230,000 Cr. for 12 minutes of easy driving.

If you keep re-selecting the RX500 it changes the field of competitors. Keep doing this and try to get a field without the LaFerrari (or even without the Veyron as well) and it should be doable. It will give 270.000 for first place and 405.000 for a clean race. There are fields possible where you become first in lap 10

Tested:

1:17.413 - Abarth 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T. 1

A single tenth of a second faster than Daihatsu Copen. A field full of these two cars would make for an interesting race.

I believe all I'm missing now is the Ferrari GTO, Lamborghini Miura and Aston Martin Vulcan. I'll get to them next week maybe. Just in time for a fresh new batch of N-cars.

Okay so I decided to grind some more today.

Tested:

1:09.503 - Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster

It trails the Lancia Delta by less than 2 tenths of a second. It's a half-second slower than the 1972 Alpine A110. Neat car, handles pretty good, but shifts are terribly slow.

Its a strange beast alright. Quicker than you expect, but it still feels like you are cruising in a tweed jacket on a country road when driving.

My goodness, I realise looking at those lap times, and comparing what I can do in the same cars..... I really suck at this game!
Never mind, it's great fun and that's what counts (and don't worry, I won't be infesting the Sport mode any time soon ;) )

Tested:

1:02.269 - Ferrari GTO

Like all other Ferrari's, it has gobs of power and minimal weight. Nearly 400 hp and ft-lbs of torque in a 2,550 lb chassis with its engine behind your head can get real scary, real quick. I wrestled it down to a low 1:02 which puts it only 5 tenths of a second behind the Shelby Cobra, and 6 tenths ahead of the Lamborghini Countach LP400.

Miura and Vulcan are all that remain for the N-class. That'll take ~14 hours worth of grinding, and I'm already burnt out on Blue Moon Bay. Let's hope the daily roulette wheel stops giving me cheap cars.

Don't worry, you've got another 7 cars to try out next week :sly:

@MidFieldMaven I would love to lend you a helping hand (since I have all Nx00 class cars), but that will become difficult due to, among other reasons, the circa 7000-7500 km between us. The most practical advice I can give is: "Podcasts". When I picked up GTS again the past month, I found it quite relaxing to mindlessly grind BMB and, more actively, listen to podcasts.

(Also, there might be other ways to solve these problems, but these might be best discussed in PM's or DM's)

Tested:

1:03.872 - Tesla Model S Signature Performance

What a weird car. It weighs nearly 4,500 lbs but has its electric motor and driven wheels at the rear. It feels like it weighs half as much as it actually does. Acceleration isn't great, but it finishes its lap alongside such cars as the Lexus LC500, BMW M3, Nissan R34 GT-R, and Ford Mustang GT.

I fired up GT Sport for the first time in months a few days ago and the first race I did was a Tesla Model S one-make at Willow Springs. The car does not feel heavy and has a surprising amount of grip. The only problem is it tops out at about 120 mph which shouldn't be an issue at Tsukuba.
