And I hate Nissans!

It's not so much the power factor that's creating problems; it's the fact that those cars can (R32, Z32) truly handle the power.

Please excuse me for continuing this line of discussion but...

Wouldn't Power Caps have been more appropriate than simply outlawing two of the best '80s cars?

Further, why is it that the Tuner Challenge v2 was forgotten so quickly, did no one notice that most cars with high HP didn't do well even though they could handle the power applied quite well?

In any case, I've already made up my mind about what I'll do for this competition so I'm suggesting we all just go about our buisness as usual without any change to the rules. 👍

Fact is, no one wants the '80s contest to be a matter of picking which R32 or Z32 is the best tuned. :indiff:

Btw, "classics" where I come from need to be 30 years old but just the same in other states around the U.S. a Classic only has to be 10 years old.

lemme check this.. is one allowed to enter multiple cars in onde division, or just one per each? and how will the judging be executed, in other words, which division will be done first, or will the judges just pick up one and throw it on the thread in random order?

edit: they all want to exclude '89 because them MFT would CRUSH, OBLITERATE and DESTROY the competition aided by Godzilla R32 and it's pretty yet fat sister, Z32..

Mmhmm, crush obliterate and destroy eh? In your dream world! :sly:

Seriously, to answer your question - it's the same as the Tuner Challenge. One car per person per division. The judging is opened for both of the first two divisions on the entry deadline, January 26th @ 11:59 PM. Judging for the remainder of the divisions is open when that yet-to-be-determined deadline arrives. Submission for those won't begin until these two divisions are judged and decided - we did this in order (hopefully) to encourage more thorough and complete judging since there'd be fewer open categories at once.

I so wish I had an SL/R 5000 Torana for this. I for one as a judge am happy that we are doing it split up, too much to do otherwise all at once.

Despite the fact that I LOVE the cars in the 64-72 division, a lot of the ones I like are spoken for, and I honestly think I may just judge it seeing as how there may be quite a good number of entries. Although I DO love my 110S L10A, so RJ, we may be going head-to-head in a battle of the vintage rotaries :sly:

hmmm.. I'm not so sure which cars to enter.. 300SLR is certain, as is 2000GT-S Evolution.. so many good cars, so hard to decide which one will get the honour..:ouch:

That's the second biggest reason I'm judging most categories, right behind the fact we still need more judges- *hint hint*

Ahem, 2 new competitors were built last night. I've got to take some action shots of the cars but it was fun. Both are on S3's for the time being, considering doing Evo versions of both cars with R2's. One is for the 1964-1973 category and the other is for the 1974-1980 category. I'll put all the setup's on later tonight after work.

Mafs!!

Excellent! Do take note though, there was a slight rules change - it's now 1964-1972 and 1973-1980. We aren't technically taking submissions for 1973-1980 yet, but there's no harm in posting it anyway if you like. 👍

Well, I'll just post what I have with stats and give action shots after. :)

VINTAGE CUP ENTRY - 1964-72 DIVISION - '70 TOYOTA CELICA (TA22) 1600GT GT-TWO NOW IN TRD SPEC!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you the rally car that Toyota didn't offer to the public, the 1970 Toyota Celica GT-TWO TRD Spec. :dopey:

After Toyota's dominance at Fuji with the Toyota 7 and the success of the 2000GT, Toyota felt they needed to dominate the World Rally scene. In an era where the BDA Escort was running a dynasty, the GT-TWO was built to end it and quickly too.
The humble '2T' 1600cc motor that powered the 1600GT was transformed into a 2T-TE, having the carby swapped over for EFI, a fully built & balanced motor, racing exhaust, ported & polished with a GT28 sized Stage 2 turbo fitted. From the factory, this potent little package pushed out 154Kw (209hp) of power & 233Nm of torque in a package weighing just 855kg.

A fully beefed up driveline for WRC duties was employed, including a 6 speed gearbox, triple plate clutch, racing flywheel, carbon driveshaft and a fully customizable LSD. The gear ratios are closely spaced together with a very tall 1st gear to limit wheelspin on launch. Adjustable suspension allround and a lightened body make it turn as quickly as a cut snake. Racing brakes help it stop on a dime too.

To complete the car a wing package and body restoration are put in place but the rollcage wasn't fitted as the engineers stressed their concerns about the car understeering with the roll cage in place.......and that drivers were replacable in those days.

On the road, it performs it's duties with a minimum of fuss. While it isn't the best accelerator on the road, it's speed through the corners make it one of the most formidable cars on dirt and well placed on twisty, flowing circuits. Best thing about the car is the ability to push more each time and the adjustability of the ratios....I could've gone for a quicker ratio setup which would've seen me get 14.1's & 242km/h top speed but this is better for all circuits not just some.

If you could, would you edit your post to add the title "Vintage Tuner Cup Entry; 1964-1972" at the top? This will make it easier to spot when I'm combing back through all the pages of posts to gather the entries together. Thanks!

And it looks like it should be a fun car - first entry in its division, as well!

Honestly, I couldn't even tell what car Mafia Boy was submitting.
I got Toyota but other than that I only saw 1600GT (what, the origins of the 2000GT  ), GT-Two (GT-Four  ), and 2TE ( ).

I just don't know much about those subjects but this all has a point (besides showing I don't know squatt).

The Vintage Tuner Cup Entries probably need to be clearly labeled as an Entry and all data necessary for data should be clearly and simply displayed.

I appreciate the effort put into that post but I walked away confused about what car was actually be used in the GT4 Vintage Tuner Cup. :dunce:

... with the layout of your submission as you like, but BE DETAILED - include EVERYTHING that needs to be done to the car, including desired tire compound, gearing, oil changes, etc. If your car is obscure or hard to acquire, it would be helpful to include the means to get it in your submission. Include the car's power, torque, weight, and in-game WPR (all figures from the garage menu) in your post, so judges may verify that they have built the car correctly ... Title your submission "Vintage Tuner Cup Entry; (division)" - i.e. "Vintage Tuner Cup Entry; 1963 and Earlier"

Mafia, when you edit your action pics in, just glance at this and make sure to include all the salient bits.

Thanks! 👍

im havin serious problems with all the entries i was gona use, im about to give up on the'64 to '72 class

Very few of these old cars will tune out to be perfect, balanced monsters, so don't be afraid of a few quirks. For instance, my prime candidate when the challenge was still in the formative stages was a Lotus Europa but I veered away from it since it's such a tailhappy driver-assassin. But after trying lots of other cars, I'm back to the Europa again. Likewise, don't feel compelled to go with a full-power tune if that's exaggerating problems with the cars you're testing. Several cars that finished very high in the standings in Tuner Challenge Version 2 were tuned to significantly less than full power. Kent's Civic, which had near-as-makes-no-difference NO power upgrades, even won the FF division!

well i had a supercharged cuda lined up to run but it was tailhappy and an absolute trip to drive but i kept gettin told ALL YOULL HAVE IS TRACTION PROBLEMS so i switched to a corvette same crap so i may switch BACK to the CUDA in defiance of all

If you find your 'Cuda fun to drive, chances are there are other people who will too! Personally, driven with a manual transmission, it's near the top of my favorite American muscle list.

That said, if the supercharger really is giving you traction problems, you can always try one of the weaker N/A builds. That, or try leaving some of the weight in the car. Stripping it completely to stage 3 weight reduction benefits handling and acceleration, but can increase wheelspin for sure, and in that case, you've undone all the good you did in the acceleration department. Don't give up the ship just yet! :sly:

That may turn out not to be such a bad idea ... at full power the E Type has a pretty strong tendency to spin its wheels. 4 speeds = longer gears = less spin ... maybe? Never tried it.

yes thats the main reason i hate the race trans on the e-type. that and the sound

the only thing im tuning is the suspention and the LSD then im moving on to my 280Z

So long as it's a good tune, and not just a good car It will mark well

GT40, I'm assuming you mean a real wreck and not a GT4 wreck.

In that case, I hope you aren't seriously hurt, and that you recover quickly! I'm sure all of us here feel the same - best of luck to you! :nervous:
