Didn't seem nearly as loose as I remember. And tire life was much longer I think.

I haven't touched the car yet. I am trying to keep my driving time down so I can be fresh for the race. That's my story and I am sticking to it, kind of like you did with your no pit strategy in the practice race at Cape Ring.

Can I change my number to #29? Thanks guys see you tonight! Should be awesome!

I won't be making this one tonight. I will say pit strategy will play a part, and when in a pack take advantage of the draft and save some fuel.

I haven't taken it to the track yet. Has anyone noticed a difference between using hards vs. softs?

Sort of, I think the fuel is going to run out before your tires, that's what happend when I practiced on tuesday

Thanks. I was just able to take my car for a whirl around the track. Running solo laps on hards, I ran about 8 laps before the tank was quarter empty, meaning I could do 32 laps. The tires seemed to be a bit less than a quarter worn, so it appeared to me tires would last longer. I only drove a couple laps on softies before parking it. My lap times dropped a couple tenths, but I don't know how much it would matter when the draft comes into play. Figuring I couldn't learn a whole lot from solo runs, I took it into a one-make race. Worthless. Those stupid AI cars kept braking (or at least lifting completely) going into turn 3. Couldn't get a good gauge on how much fuel I would really use, or how much my tires would wear because I wasn't going all out. Guess I'll jump into the race with cold feet (and still undecided on whether to run hards or softs) and play it by ear. :sly:

Oh, and since I'm using the DS3, I hope I don't suffer too badly from the dreaded Gran Turismo thumb. :nervous: I remember doing races around the test track in GT3. My thumb hated me for that. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad that I have to park it for the race.

That sounds pretty right, but I did 38 laps full gas till empty.

We starting right at 10? Or we gonna have like a 10-15 minute window to get everyone in before we start?

Trying to make it guys... putting kid out now... ugh...hate cutting it close like this....

That sucks TX, it was a good race towards the end. I ran out of fuel, had a lot of fun though. Nice win Mic!

Wooo Hoooo!!!! Daytona 500!!! I can honestly say I have never felt more like Ricky Bobby in my entire life.

:Awesome race guys, that was a lot of fun drafting, especially Martin, gotta say we were flying, and hopefully that helped you a bit!👍

I almost threw it away with my lap 150 pit stop only putting in 40 liters by mistake. Brain fart.

Had to pit again 15 laps later. Thanks to the racing gods for shred-tec, he was my savior and drafting partner at the end to allow me to save fuel and pull away from psycho at the crucial time. Thanks shred! I owe you a big one.

Fun Race this time since I ran with others most of the 200 laps. Woo hoo! I just won the Daytona 500! Now I'm going to disneyworld...

Congratulations micantony!

Yeah it did. You, Garage-father and Shred really were all great to run with. Drafting with you guys helped me get back to the top. If not for the fuel problem I would have been battling with Psycho for 2nd.

Yea, I was wondering how the finish would be between us. About the time I started thinking about it you let up and I said ahaa he wants me to take the lead so he can draft past me on the last straight. Then you pitted and that was that. I slowed way down to conserve fuel. I was in the red when I crossed the line. Absolutely fantastic race. My only goal was to finish. We are going to have to run it again for FordRacing99 and TX Executioner though. :D

I'm ready. :dopey:

Congratulations to everyone who finished the race. 👍

I've got a PM for you psycho, I'll send it when I get the chance.

That was a great race last night. Nice win micantony! 👍

My race went as below (not that anyone really cares to read it, as it is quite long :D).

Despite finishing 3 laps behind in 6th, I still had a good time. Well, at least it was fun while I was in a draft. I think I spent about half the race running solo. It seemed like every time I would come out of the pits, a group of cars would go past me between turns 1 and 2, just far enough ahead that I couldn't catch their draft. :grumpy: Luckily, my last couple of runs, I did get hooked up with micantony and Shred.

I thought I had that first lap wreck cleared. But wouldn't you know it, I barely got clipped just as I was about to make it through. I think half the field ended up pitting on lap 1 . I was back to running competitively with the leaders, albeit a lap down early before getting a slight bit of damage. Pulling to the side on the backstretch to drop in behind them so I wasn't swerving like mad to keep it straight in front of any of them, I ended up nipping the grass and sending my car into a series of spins. So from there through most of the race until about the last quarter, I was running pretty much alone. I ended up having a great battle with Shred for the latter part of the race. I decided to come in to pit with him. Of course I came out alone again because I had to take less fuel having pitted more recently. He and micantony did catch back up to me, and I was able to draft once again. I did notice that I had used a lot more fuel running alone than in the draft. The run before, while in the draft, I had gone 22 laps and only used up half of my tank. So I thought I was good to go when I pitted with Shred. I soon realized I was not going to make it to the finish, though. After barely scraping the wall and damaging my car, and effectively losing the draft, I went ahead and pitted. Coming out of the pits, I hooked up with Shred and mic once again. Drafting behind Shred, I was able to save a little bit of fuel and made it to the end. I saw Shred run out in turn 1. I would have given you a push had I known for sure I could make it myself, which was iffy. :sly:

Anyone know what cause that first crash? It sure didn't take long.

Congrats again to micantony.

Thanks dolph. I never saw the wreck, which turn was it? I know I was driving low into turn 3 and someone went high and hit the wall next to me (Edit: see my update below; memory is a funny thing). It would have caused him to slow dramatically and maybe that created a chain reaction and wreck since we were all together at that point.

Yeah, you can save so much fuel in a draft if you can find guys to work with you and take turns at the front.
I did 36 laps, 36 laps, 38 laps, then 40 laps in my stints getting me to lap 150 where I was going to do 2 25 lap stints on softs. I was fortunate as it seemed like I always had 1 or 2 guys to draft with almost the entire race.

The wreck happened it turn 3. I couldn't tell exactly what caused it. I started 3rd to last and dropped to the back, Dale Jarrett style, to ride around a bit and stay out of trouble. So when the incident happened, with nobody behind me to hit me from the rear, I thought I would be good to make it through. And I almost did. One of the wrecked cars came down just as I was about to clear the wreck and every so slightly clipped my right rear. Yet it was enough to cause damage and a nearly uncontrollable car. Did anyone else have issues where if they barely touched the wall or someone else, they got damage? And I mean very, very little contact. The kind that shouldn't cause a performance issue whatsoever, like what would be just cosmetic damage in real life?
