TURTLE RACING LEAGUE - FLEX Racing Series - ACCEPTING MEMBERS!

I personally like running with full damage. Really makes you drive a lot differently. The race can change at anytime. Hope we can do more like it.

The wreck happened it turn 3. I couldn't tell exactly what caused it. I started 3rd to last and dropped to the back, Dale Jarrett style, to ride around a bit and stay out of trouble. So when the incident happened, with nobody behind me to hit me from the rear, I thought I would be good to make it through. And I almost did. One of the wrecked cars came down just as I was about to clear the wreck and every so slightly clipped my right rear. Yet it was enough to cause damage and a nearly uncontrollable car. Did anyone else have issues where if they barely touched the wall or someone else, they got damage? And I mean very, very little contact. The kind that shouldn't cause a performance issue whatsoever, like what would be just cosmetic damage in real life?

I was in the back in turn 3, and what I saw is garage got a little too high, getting him on the wall, he finally got off the wall after a bit and he pulled to the middle lane hitting a driver causing him to wreck, and others getting involved. That's what I saw

I watched the replay. Here's what happened:

Garage Father was drafting behind me going into turn 3. We were both on the high line as two others were on the low line. I think he missed his turn in or was carrying too much speed in my draft and he slammed into the wall going into turn 3 (cold tires i'm sure played a part too). He rode the wall for a bit and then out of control, his car shot down the track right into Martin on the low line, he ricocheted of Martin back up the track and into Kracker; then everyone started crashing into each other.
Ph1sher and Ford were the only two fortunate enough to make it through. Everyone else had full damage. Dolph, your damage was caused by you losing control with the tap as you mentioned, but you hit the outside wall pretty hard, so full damage it was.

It was quite a wreck. If you have a replay, check it out.

Really unfortunate for the guys not up front though as there was almost no way to avoid the chaos. Maybe a red flag was in order with so many involved. Something to think about for next time, although Martin got back to the front after his lap 1 pit.

Thats pretty much what happened in a nutshell. Basically, it's NASCAR. Although I always try to avoid wrecks it did feel good running with everyone and seeing that after being a lap or more down after the first lap you could get back into contention. I learned alot in that race, more so than in any other oval race I have been in. I can't wait to do another one. Although being in a wreck sucks at the time, it added to the experience even more for me and I'm actually glad it happened. From now on though I'm adding a minimum of 8 liters of extra fuel the last stint. I think if Psycho and I had switched positions and I had let him lead in our last stint he would have been the one running out of fuel and not me :banghead:. Next time!

Race Recap

Daytona 500 with heavy damage! Congratulations to everyone who showed up and managed to finish. We will have to do this again for Ford-Racing and TX_Executioner who unfortunately got disconnected. Turn 3 on lap 1 had crash that managed to take out half of the field and give the front pack a bit of breathing room. The back half seemed to work together nicely and were able to make some time up throughout the 2.5 hour race though. There was great teamwork/racing had by many. Garage-father, Shred-tec, ph1sher, and martin_ky were able to hook up for many long stints for some great racing. Unfortunately for DolphDrago he always seemed to come out of the pits at the wrong time and ended up running the racing alone alot of the time. Up front Micantony, Psycho-Tuber, and MonkeyBoy had a great race as well. Coming into the last 40 lap stint there were a few fuel miscalculations by Martin_ky, and Shred-tec. Micantony had to stop an extra time for fuel as did Martin, who still ran out with half a lap left. Shred-tec also ran out on the last lap and Psycho-Tuber made it to the finish in the red. There was excellent clean racing the whole night and everyone deserves a big 👍. Congratulations to Micantony for winning and also to Psycho-Tuber for second and MonkeyBoy for getting 3rd.

Sounds like you guys has a good race. wish I could've made it.
1st lap mayhem always fun with the Nascars.

I think if Psycho and I had switched positions and I had let him lead in our last stint he would have been the one running out of fuel and not me :banghead:. Next time!

Good Luck getting Psycho to take the lead. I tried several times to get him to swap with me to no avail :irked:. He just wanted to follow and take advantage, so after a while i had to make it very annoying and difficult for him after i felt my turn up front was done

I'm sure he was wondering what i was doing , but he didn't respond to my mic communications.

If you want to be a good drafting partner, take turns every few laps. Or just keep sling shotting back and forth if fuel isn't an issue. But it really does make a difference if you are the leader vs the follower with respect to fuel conservation. The follower can typically run the whole lap at 3/4 throttle and still keep the draft.

FYI Martin: on your write-up, to clarify, i didn't end up having to pit again; I was lucky enough to hook up with Shred-tec and conserve fuel the last stint. I did have to put Hards back on though to do the 35 laps which was not my intention originally.
Interesting that i had the slowest fast lap. But again, i only won because i was lucky enough to always have a drafting partner throughout most of the race. I think i had to slow down one time early to allow Psycho to catch up so we could draft together. I was very worried about that 4 car pack 1/2 a lap behind us catching up as they were flying!

I'd like to practice some time to see how hard we can bump-draft before incurring damage. It seemed i could tap guys pretty good without any issue, but everyone seemed very tentative to try it much :scared:

I wasn't trying to take advantage of anyone. It is much harder to do the bump drafting than to be bump drafted and there is a huge difference between drafting at 3/4 throttle and shoving someone around the track at full throttle.

sorry Mic, I thought you said you had to stop back in for an extra 10 liters. My mistake.

Sorry psycho, didnt really mean you were taking advantage per se; I was being half sarcastic in that statement.
You had your strategy and we did a good job running together, hence the 1-2 finish. I just became aware after a while that I couldn't get you to take the lead car voluntarily and at the time I was concerned about you saving fuel at my expense. That may have been when you had damage though and i simply misread the situation.

Didn't you think I was driving like a nut sometimes when I was driving off track and slowing down? Lol. I was trying to get you to drive past me so we could take turns. :)

I muted my mic and turned down the voice so I was unable to hear you. For Nascars races I will leave it turned up. I barely touched the wall and got damage on my right front very early in one stint. I could race the car but I couldn't safety bump draft at all and it was even hard to be bump drafted. When my right front tire wore out I just followed. FYI, while damaged my right front tire wore out faster than it normally would have. Fuel was the least of my concerns for two reasons. 1) I could fill up at the next stop if I felt like it and 2) it's free!

Oh man, those pictures bring back memories! Who's car has the front end 8' in the air the rear end 10' in the air?

Okay, now I'm definitely going to have to take a look at that replay. I don't remember getting that much air.

Edit: Confirmed it was me. But in my replay I didn't even quite clear the wall. Interesting. Do I lag out there more than I realized? I hope not. In fact, from my replay, TX went for a higher ride than me in the Best Buy car. Anyway, as I figured, I did get damage on the right rear from a spinning car coming down into me. I corrected, then overcorrected and did hit the wall, as the picture shows. Yet despite the fact that I whacked the wall a heck of a lot harder than the contact made with the other car, I received no additional damage from it. Ford-Racing99 and ph1sher and did a good job of making it through the melee.

Hey, no problem I already put you back.

Okay.

I don't know if I'll make practice tonight. On my way home from Bedford Indiana and its about 4 1/2 hour drive. By the time I get home, beat the wife and love on the dog, it might be over. This job thing is really cutting into my play time. :X

AND YOU GAVE MY #7 NUMBER AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH lol I'll pick a new one if I can't have my old one back.
