I think that Legia would have been put out regardless by UEFA had aggregate been in their favor. Like you said, Legia fielded an ineligible player, had a minimum impact on the game had the original score stood, but the point remains that Legia did not deserve to move forward in the Champions League after their unintended stunt. The scoring just happened to work out in Celtic's favor before any additional penalties would have to be assessed.Doesn't matter. Legia fielded a player who was ineligible, regardless of his impact on the game.
Plus, it wasn't as though Legia were automatically disqualified. They were given a 0-3 default which just happened to put them out. Coincidence? Yes. 3-0 is the standard forfeit scoreline. It's rare, but it has happened in the past.
