I think they both scored the same amount this season but Messi has been the top goal scorer in the Champions League for the last three years and he is only currently 23.

Messi scored 31 and Ronaldo 40 goals on the BBVA spanish league!

Maybe if my hair wasn't so Messi last night, United would have been aable to stand a chance.

But seriously...

EA Sports uses their own World XI in their FIFA games. But they have been totally obsoleted by this generations Barcelona. They are absolutely staggering to watch.

It was a good game to watch - unless you were a Man Utd supporter that is. It started out looking quite even, but Man U quickly lost their way as Barca got into their rhythm, and Man U were lucky to be 1-1 at half time IMO. The second half was a masterclass from Barca, and Man Utd never looked capable of winning. Messi's goal destroyed them... but Barca were just generally more accurate and comfortable on the ball.

Man Utd's defense was woeful at times. Van Der Sar played well, and he was the reason that the score wasn't more embarrassing for Man Utd. Evra turned his back on Villa atleast twice, leaving him totally unmarked... on both occasions Man Utd were lucky not to concede. I was disappointed that Man U created so few chances, and the penalty appeal was laughable.

It was a shame for Ferguson - 3 finals in the last 4 is a fantastic achievement, but only 1 win in those 3 games must hurt. But it was the nature of this defeat that will be most painful - Man U were played off the pitch and they could have been totally hammered. Barca don't always play perfectly clean, and some of their players need a crash course on sportsmanship, but there can be little doubt that they are the best side in Europe by a country mile - and Messi is worth his weight in antimatter.

I expect many of you to eat your words after what happened yesterday. If there's been any diving from certain Barça players in the past weeks, it's been only due to the Mourinho factor, and playing against stinky ultra-defensive tactics.

Cheating my ass. Manchester didn't even stand a remote chance.

Fanboy?

If fanboy means that I can appreciate the supreme skills of someone playing for a team I don't support then I guess I'm guilty as charged.

Barca were awesome tonight. No playacting, no diving, just perfect football.

Suggesting a side should use professional fouls to kill great players is far worse than diving.
👍

👍

Take it easy there!

Messi had 8 more assists though in the league and it was enough to win the league. However I was going on about total goals and I think the stats are:

Cristiano Ronaldo: 53 goals and 16 assists in 54 appearances.
Lionel Messi: 53 goals and 24 assists in 55 appearances.

I have a question for you all. Which goal did you find more exciting as a shot to watch, Lionel Messi's thunderbolt or David Villa's masterpiece??

Plus I believe a load of Ronaldo's goals came after the Barca vs Real league game when the title was effectively over. Whereas Messi was being rested for a couple of games for the biggest club game in football.

Fixed.

Cristiano Ronaldo goals statistics in 2010-2011:
La Liga: 41 goals
Spanish Cup: 7 goals
Champions League: 6 goals
TOTAL: 54 goals

Lionel Messi goals statistics in 2010-2011:

I just wanna say that a couple of years ago everybody loved Ronaldo (specially the English), but now its all messi! Ronaldo is a record breaker not Messi;)!

Im just defending Ronaldo because his Portuguese (of corse) and not just that, but i hate Messi, his a fantastic player but this is too much:

He does this because he wasnt winning... like a stupid spoiled kid. Hes smiling at sec 19 and he didnt even get a yellow card 🤬:confused:thats funny!

Here you can see that the guy really gets hurt...

And i dont like Barça simply because they are pigs when playing! Who DOES know how to watch football seez this : diving, playacting, bitching and making up stuff to stall the last 20 minof the game even when winning 3-0!

Actually, with the exception of Man U fans, the English hate Ronaldo... with a passion. And now he's no longer playing for United even their fans hate him. He's not remembered by neutral English footy fans with the fondness that Cantona, Zola or Henri is.

He's an arrogant, diving, miserable little runt, who claims he's been fouled every time he gets tackled.

Messi is humble and has class. Ronaldo is not and has none.

Wow, that Messi incident is ridiculous. Even Pepe, who I am not at all fond of, comes over and goes, "What are you thinking?" Lmao.

I dont know how you can say that but ok... Hes no better than Ronaldo in those aspects and at least he does not shots the ball against the oponent fans when his losing! If that is classy...

This. That incident is very classy !

  .VDS should have save Messi's goal had he seen it

Heh, if you do a search on Youtube you'll find loads of videos showing Ronaldo's diving skills. Here's just one of them....

Classless, arrogant, runt (feel free to swap the first letter of the last word with something more appropriate).

Heres a few:

Messi dives like others do! Hes no exception and no example of fair play also.

You did say yourself Ronaldo scored 40 league goals but it is 41 if you include the Pepe deflection one.

I would still be happy to see Ronaldo come back to Man Utd but when he was at United, I used to think Messi was better as his dribbling is like the ball is stuck to his foot with an elastic band, an amazing skill to have. I can't think of any current player having the ability to do that so well.

Congrads to Barca on the CL win. Fully deserved the win over Man U, although got the lift to get there through the semis (yes... I'm a bitter Real fan :P )

I didn't like Fergie's call ups. I mean Nani should have started and Berbatov should have been AT MINIMUM called up to the bench. The fact he wasn't called up at all is a swift kick to the family jewels. Man U has been slowly pushing him out the door but still... he was the team's top scorer in the league, why not even call him up???

Congrads to Barca though. Messi I think confirmed that he would never leave Barca and I think that might hurt him in the long run. To be noted to be better than CRON, he has to play somewhere else aside from one of the biggest teams who's stacked with top players. CRON did his magic at Sporting, Man U and is doing so at Real Madrd. Messi only has done it at Barca. Neither have stepped up at the national level though.

On topic regarding the diving.. I don't see Messi diving all that much. CRON used to and was flacked massively for it. He doesn't do it as much now and I think he realized when he was doing it in the past on the norm built a reputation as a diver. Now he gets legitimately fouled and the ref doesn't call a foul.

My Porto so far is in not such a bad group :P

Shakthar can either bring some craziness but I think we can surpass them. I don't fear APOEL. Zenit on the other hand I think we can win but if former Porto captain and CB, Bruno Alves, is in top form we might have troubles scoring. I doubt he'll throw his elbows at former teamates/team though lol

So far so good!

I don't think Porto could have got an easier draw so you should be as happy as I am with Manchester United's draw. :D

Man U's won their group already. Benfica are a little nasty at times but Basel shouldn't be a problem and...yeah. Who's the other guys, lol?

Group A is a killer! I believe Barca and Milan will go through from H.

Also anyone here plan on playing fantasy at the official UEFA CL site?

if anyone on gt planet is interested in fantasy league let me know. i can create a league or join one that may already exists here.

Some good match day 1 games these past 2 days!! I DVRed a bunch and will watch over time but I did see the highlights. How many posts were hit in the Man City x Napoli match?!!!

My Porto won 2-1 so I'm happy :)
Ironically, or conveniently I should say, Portuguese international and former Porto CB and captain, Bruno Alves, got red carded for his current club Zenit St. Petersburg, and will miss match day 2, which is against my Porto! lol
