Ah I see what you were reffering to now. My opinion on that is that the "experience" is probably going to people with a healthy wad of cash in their pocket anyway and would be more than capable of funding such an experience, they just chose to do so through charity.

It's not like he's handing out that sort of oppurtunity, or even giving passenger rides.

Please don't interpit this as me saying all supercar owners should make their cars public, it's just that I feel he has a "Holier than thou" attitude about it.

How do you know he's not giving the plumber a ride? Because he annoys you, you have projected this attitude onto him. I haven't seen anything in the news, interviews, or anywhere else that would suggest he's "holier than thou" about his car collection. He actually seems pretty chuffed to show it off as much as he can.

He doesn't have to let anyone get near them. HE bought them, for HIMself. Because HE likes them.

I can understand their frustrations but they should have known. This is Top Gear (with Jeremy Clarkson), driving a kit car of a Lancia.

My thoughts exactly.

Have they not seen the show?

Do they not know the history of Lancia?

;)

I think this was a great episode. Apart from the bit with the airship which really was just stupid. The only thing I liked about that bit was the colour combo on the Lamborghini. I've got to say though; I might've developed a sudden passion for Lancias. The Fulvia looked so incredibly beautiful, and the Stratos... I've seen that car many times in pictures, but the real thing looks so much better. Same goes for the Delta Integrale. The bits of video for the Delta bit were phenomally good, and I was completely stunned by the beauty of the Fulvia, the Stratos and the Delta. I was actually thinking about starting to save up for such a car, untill I heard how rare and expensive they really are. I kind of expected Ford in first by the public, but I didn't quite understand what VW and BMW were diong so high up there. Great choice of music throughout the episode, even if only because the best intro to a song ever made appeared on telly :P

Yes, I'm talking about the Breathe song by Pink Floyd.

I watched the episode last night and I enjoyed the music too - not only was there Breathe, but also an excerpt from Roundabout by Yes, and the aforementioned Space March (Capsule In Space) by John Barry.

As for the content of the show, the Stratos segments were the highlight, although it does seem like Clarkson and co. may have treated the donors of the Alitalia Stratos kit car pretty shabbily.

Little hard to hide the fact the engine doesn't work anymore, they didn't try and hide it, they just didn't mention it when it came back.

Despite viewers having been given the appearance that May had appeared to be alone in the flying caravan, a professional pilot, Chris Sanger-Davies, had undertaken some of the more difficult manoeuvres.

This made me laugh

The show is scripted? Why was I not informed?
The show is scripted. Consider yourself informed.

Way back in an earlier series, the show won an award for the best unscripted show. Jeremy said he was unable to collect the award in person as he was too busy writing the show's script...

TG just has an unscripted feel but most of the stuff, if not everything, that happens is scripted. It is also getting more and more obvious that it is scripted.

Yeah this is the main thing I don't like about the new episodes, they are spending less and less effort to make the jokes seem spontaneous thus making the jokes less effective (I mean, we all knew they scripted events but even so they could be very funny if pulled off in a not so obvious way).

But to be fair to them they've used so many ideas that what seems obvious now was shocking and amazing in earlier series'.

Also very true, think its time for some changes in the show? I'm dissapointed with the lack of cool walling, that was always a nice segement with plenty of humour, hopefully this week

My post was actually tied into that last sentence.

Some of the stuff just feels painfully scripted. There was that episode where they had the challenge for the cars young drivers could have as beginner cars. They did that radio trick on James, but after the 3rd or 4th time it pretty much had no meaning. He could have removed the radio or whatever else.

Like 725 said, maybe its time for change? The same old formula is getting tired now methinks.
Just as old Top Gear became new Top Gear, they should re-invent themselves.

I think also they've drifted far too much away from car reviewing now, I realise its been an entertainment show for a while now, but they did do a fair amount of reviews before. Now the hour is taken up more by challenges and chatting about random stuff.
What made it entertaining in the first place was that they were reviewing cars but in a more light-hearted and amusing way. Sometimes with some unique road tests. Occasionally they threw in the odd piece about car versus tank or whatever.

I don't think they should go back to old Top Gear, after all thats just 5th Gear. But I do think they need to rethink the show. Not necessarily to solely car reviewing, but I think the focus has drifted ever so slightly too much. Sometimes I do wonder whether its really just a glorified chat show.

Episode 4 - Preview

So, show 4 in the current series has been recorded and there are two important things you need to know about it.

Firstly, it is on at 8:30pm this Sunday. That’s 8:30pm. Not nine, not eight, but somewhere in between.

Secondly, it contains one of the most thorough – and most dramatic – tests Top Gear has ever conducted on a car, all to satisfy the angry viewer who demanded the sensible test of the new Fiesta last year. Apparently driving it around a shopping centre and then off a Royal Marines landing craft into the sea was just too silly for him so Jeremy has gone out to make amends.

Also in this week’s show, you’ll get to see two 4×4s for the truly lunatic – the Audi Q7 V12 and the BMW X5 M – concluded with the remarkable sight of The Stig fearlessly taking them onto a soaking wet track and making them dance like hippos in ballet shoes.

Meanwhile, Richard has identified a major problem with airports – namely the delay-making slowness of their support vehicles – and sets out to fix it using the crucible of motorsport. Oh yes.

Finally, the star in the Reasonably Priced Car is the director of Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and the new Sherlock Holmes movie, Guy Ritchie. He never does telly interviews if he can help it so it was a coup to get him on and then discover that not only is he a genuinely nice bloke but that he has a remarkable and previously unknown love of both vans and the nerdy end of off-roading. At one point the phrase ‘winching magazines’ was used. He was pretty plucky in the Lacetti too.

So, that’s what you’ve got coming up on Sunday at the all-new time of 8:30pm. Unless you’re one of those people overseas who nicks it off a download site for free; then you can watch it at whatever time you please. Just remember that the current licence fee is £142.50 and that your cheque for this amount should be sent to the usual Top Gear address.

Guy Ritchie. 👍

Possibly but let's face it, it was pretty naff

No, not really. The Hawk is one of the best replicas on the market pretty much anywhere without spending hundreds of thousands for things like C-Type replicas. Given that virtually every component is interchangable with a real Stratos, there's nothing remotely naff about it :odd:

Oh no, the flying caravan stunt was faked....

How long before people start writing in to say that Eastenders is scripted?

Didn't take a genius to work out that the airport section was a stunt. If they'd got anywhere near the airport without clearance all air traffic would have been suspended and they would probably have got an RAF "escort" out of controlled airspace...

If anyones been watching James May on the Moon, he's just let out that comic book laugh of his while he was staring at the curvature of Earth. A good watch before TopGear imo.

That, then, was programme four. And that means we’re more than halfway through the current series. Boo and indeed hiss.

As we know from the comments that appear below these blogs, all of you lovely people out there on the webernet are more than capable of telling us what you did and didn’t like about each show – and we really do appreciate that feedback – so rather than going over what you’ve just seen, let’s look forward to what you can expect when Top Gear returns from next week’s enforced break.

We’ve got Jeremy, Richard and James taking over an art gallery, we’ve got the Lexus LF-A, we’ve got Jeremy’s cost-effective test of the BMW X6 and we’ve got possibly the most epic and amazing special Top Gear has ever made as the boys attempt to get from the heart of the Bolivia rain forest to the coastline of Chile in three 4×4s they bought from the local version of Auto Trader. Trust us, that one will really be worth a watch.

I've seen that one before and watched it again, really is an excellent program and when he's talking to Charlie Duke who mentions what it's like to look up at the moon and realise you've been there it's sent shivers down my spine both times. Just mind boggling.

As for this week's episode, I shall put my thoughts in spoiler text just in case people haven't seen it yet...

Really enjoyed it, actually. The Twingo test made me laugh quite a few times, looks like a great car. As for the crash at the end... anyone else reckon it was one of those "reclaimed" cars like the Evo from the last series? Seemed a bit extreme if not, unless the thing launched into the water was just a mock-up or something.

The airport vehicle race was great too, even if it was perhaps a little predictable after things like the bus racing and motor home racing.

All in all, I reckon this one was a better effort than the previous few episodes in this series.

Really looking forward to that one - their road trips are always excellent, better than anything else they do on the show.
