Or the owners wouldn't let them.
Probably correct actually, good point mate
Or the owners wouldn't let them.
All of which was probably performed once and was vital to that segment of the show. I highly doubt the Stig does only one fast lap, though only one may be time, without any practice in the car. Could very well be they chose to do the segment but not push for a timed lap as it was largely irrelevant to the other cars on the board. That makes no sense if the "owners" wouldn't let them drive the car fast.
Did no-one see how Hammond was getting the Fezza seriously sideways? And also accelerating the 959 rapidly? They also did a drag race too as well and Hammand was messing up the gear changes so badly, I wondered if the engine was gonna explode or the gears themselves.
I am sure that if the cars survived that, it would be able to survive a lap around the track at race speed.
Although I suspect it was more for insurance reason than anything else.
Seeing the lap times would be interesting, but part of me is pleased they didn't do a lap. The times they would do, especially as it was soaking wet, would have been beaten by Focuses and Meganes. It just wouldn't have been right and would spoil the majesty of those 2 iconic cars.
The Fiat 500 hasn't been cool since a few months after launch, since then it's been the car of choice for a womans midlife crisis. If you dare to look inside you'll find a face of hate and misery.

Perhaps the seat massage wouldn't turn off...Round here it's mostly young people who tend to flash their lights and wave at each other! In fact, about 75% of the 500s I've seen on my travels have been driven by young men. I always make a point of taking a quick look to see who's driving. A young girl in a 500c pulled up next to me in traffic the other week and she was almost leaping out of her seat with joy!
She might have been a bit mad, mind.
The BBC gets it wrong...again! Jeremy would never have won his race with God if he'd started from the real most westerly point of Britain which is Ardnamurchan on the west coast of Scotland.
Perhaps the seat massage wouldn't turn off...

Corrachadh Mor, actually. Part of Ardnamurchan I grant ye, but about 35 metres further west than Ardnamurchan Point which is oft-stated to be the westernmost point of mainland Britain.
Back in 2008 'Top Gear' broadcast a race between the petrol-powered Lotus Elise S and the electric Tesla Roadster. During the test Jeremy Clarkson said the Tesla ran out of power after 55 miles, compared to the 211 miles claimed by the manufacturer.
Tesla complained about the show at the time, with the BBC admitting some of the footage was shot to show what could happen.
They said: "[The show] intentionally and/or recklessly, grossly misled potential purchasers of the Roadsters… Its reputation has been severely damaged."
A Tesla spokesman told the Daily Mail: "The BBC's conduct has given us no choice but to sue them and clear up their lies."
How about when Clarkson single handedly destroyed the sales of the Chrysler Crossfire coupe, describing the rear as like a dog squatting for a you-know.Has this been posted here yet?
Top Gear being sued by Tesla
What next? Fiat suing them for pointing out that they forgot to fit an aerial to the Abarth 500? It's an entertainment show, not a serious reviews program.
They did... but they were so angry after seeing the show, they got into a Tesla and drove it to BBC Television Centre to complain in person...As the show was aired in 2008, why are Tesla just bothered about it now? Why didn't they care then?
