If the BBC thinks that the statements about Mexicans were just playful banter, then why did it decide to edit them out for the BBC America broadcast?
It would have offended a lot more people in the US then in the UK. Plus isn't the news always edited on the US program? I don't know I don't watch it.
Yeah, but it's just a joke... according to the BBC.
Of course things are edited out, but for time purposes. This part was deliberately edited out because they realized that the parts were offensive.
It is just a joke, a mildly funny one before the whole of Mexico flipped out over it. Mexican food does look like refried sick with cheese on it...tasty, tasty, tasty refried sick though!
But why put the comment in a market where there is a large Mexican population? It just going to cause another flip out and BBC America actually depends on ad dollars to stay operational too unlike the BBC in the UK.
Huge Mexican population? That's got to be 10% of the population.
I just can't understand the BBC's hypocrisy. You can't tell the people who complained about the comments (including me) that these guys were just joking and that it was harmless fun and then edit out the comments. Stick behind your product, BBC... Otherwise, acknowledge that the comments were offensive and offer a proper apology.
We get the shortened versions over here when Top Gear is repeated on channels with ad breaks, and they always cut the news. So why assume this is any different?Huge Mexican population? That's got to be 10% of the population.

Love all these people moaning, if you dont like it why are you watching just watch 5th Gear and stop trolling
if it were, the BBC would expect the advertisers to know the type of humor they use,
That should be a really good episode, imo.So apparently this Sunday is when we see the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40.

The BBC doesn't have advertisers.
Wasn't that bad of an episode. I chuckled a few times and driving on the ice looked really perilous.
Would reallyhave liked to see the F40's lap time, perhaps it's (and the 959's) time wasn't respectful (read: good) enough so they decided to fake the errors, they are Richard and Jeremy's favourite cars afterall.
