That'd be like comparing the F-150 with the F430... different jobs to do for different people. Only got through half of the 1st episode of US Top Gear before abandoning the effort.

^"Oh wait, never mind one of you is." I too, would love to see this, it would be quite entertaining.

1991 episode 5. Must watch. starts with Clarkson doing the new S-class, and he opens with a re-make of the infamous VW commercial (the guy who bet on red, married a sex-kitten, went into gold, etc.), then when he finally takes the wheel the BGM is Chris Isaac's "Wicked Games". Holy crap. This is the episode where TG turned the corner!

Here's hoping tomorrow's TG Christmas special is on par with the previous special episodes.

I hope so too. Just a heads up, anyone on an "i-device"(iPhone etc.) the Middle East Special from last year is free from their "12 Days of Christmas" Free Givaway thing.

Unfortunately, US customers are excluded from the 12 Days of Christmas event. :grumpy:

The Christmas Special last night was hilarious! As you can tell from my Avatar..

I already knew the carriages would separate to reveal... those words, as soon as the banners were attached to the train.

And I loved it when Jezza kept playing the same Genesis song over and over again to annoy Hammond.

It wasn't actually that good. Yes there were some good bits, but it was very content light and there weren't any challenges or purpose to the trip. I now want a mini like Hammonds however, that one was beautiful.

Best part was when Hammond winched May's car:dopey:. I laughed so hard when Clarkson played the music to rub it in. BTW does anyone know the track Clarkson was playing? I MUST KNOW:ill:!!!!!!

Gawd, Genesis after Peter Gabriel is just awful, better to erase it from your memory... and yeah, specials are a bit weak, but I'll take it anyway since I'm feeling TG deprived... already watched everything I can find of the old TG, and all new TG... and started in on Jezza's videos... what's next, James' wine show?!?:nervous:

Well, Season 18 is supposed to start in January sometime. They've been driving a LOT of cars recently, too. Like the new Spyker and the Super Car of 2011 Showdown has been seen being filmed and the contenders are the Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren MP4-12C and a Nobel M600.

So..A lot to come this season...looking forward to it.

I thought it was pretty terrible to be honest.

There were literally a couple of funny bits. The party scene was start-to-finish embarassing to watch, was like watching Last Of The Summer Wine or Only Fools And Horses, just shamefully terrible throughout.

It was a cop-out going from Mumbai to Jaipur on the train just because of the Allegro, maybe if they'd done more driving they might have had some genuinely funny stuff (as happens by chance on some of their road trips) rather than having to manufacture stupidness.

The train slogans were amusing but only amusing - not hilarious, and certainly not anything other than bloody obvious as soon as they'd painted the signs.

I was a bit cheesed off about how the cars ended up. Yes, before anyone says, I know that TG destroys cars on their road trips, but normally they pick fairly average examples at best. With their £7k budget this time, they'd essentially managed to get near-immaculate examples of all the cars. There are plenty of shoddy versions of each about - why destroy nice ones? The Mini in particular was a pretty much perfect late Sportpack, why choose 7 grand's worth of car to destroy when there are Minis knocking about for a grand?

Probably one of the worst episodes of TG I've seen so far. And certainly the worst roadtrip, which are normally the best TG episodes.

I think it was just too puerile. Lots of cock jokes and slapstick. Teenagers and people without the ability to discern subtlety probably loved it. Just confirmed to me that James May is now infinitely better and making TV programs when the other two aren't about, and that the USA TG cast now does the "three guys having fun in cars" thing much better than the UK cast.

^ What he said. I did have a giggle at some parts but most of it was just ridiculously cheesy and over scripted. I was also pretty annoyed when they ruined that Mini. What a total waste. 👎

The show really didn't feel epic enough for a special. It just seemed average, the content was sporadically put in all kinds of places, they jumped from place to place too quickly, the cars didn't fit traditional Top Gear tradition of consistently breaking down...easily the weakest special so far. Just hope it doesn't go further downhill from here...

I really didn't enjoy the whole party scene at all. That portion of the episode just wasn't necessary if you ask me for the exact same reasons you stated.

The journey by road didn't even begin until about 45 minutes in. First they were messing around in Mumbai, next there was the train ride all the way to Jaipur, then they took part in that Hillclimb event and organised that pointless party. Only then did they finally start travelling across the country by car (which is what I was expecting from the very beginning).

There were some genuinely funny moments, but it seemed too scripted overall.

Yeah. The hill climb and just driving around were the best parts and really, Jeremy ruined the hill climb, but it was still fun. And I really was thoroughly surprised that many people turned out to watch 3 British guys make fools of themselves. That seemed rather staged...as did a lot of things. And it is sad they destroyed all three cars...especially the Mini.

The first time they pick three cars that are near perfect condition, and they produce the worst episode...perhaps next time, they need to pick crappier cars.

I thought it was very entertaining. The hour and a half flew by. The bit where they rigged the horn to the brake pedal was a real lol moment for me.

That actually made me laugh. But it was one of very, very few moments that did.

I still reckon that the Botswana and Vietnam special episodes are the best at this point.

I would say that the latest one was on par with the Middle East special, plus neither of them were as good as the Bolivia special.
