BMW and Volvo yes and yes.

Subaru maybe. You can definitely get an Impreza of that age for under £1500, but I was surprised when Hammond arrived in the WRX. Again, you can get an older Impreza Turbo for under £1500, but it'll have been ragged every day of its life and be pretty smoky by this point - so I'm surprised TG managed to get a bugeye WRX which doesn't seem in too bad shape (bit of peeling lacquer on the hood was all I could see) for that price.

But, you never know. Maybe it's a lot worse than it looks on TV. It's possible they got it for £1500.
I've been playing about with something for an article you can hopefully read tonight and I concur fully.

You can get all manner of 850s well inside budget. T5-Rs and Rs are rarer, but they will still fit inside that £1,500 particularly if you're less fussy. That particular one I don't think was in too bad nick.

The E39 is easy. They've bought one with collapsed self-levelling suspension for some reason, but you can take your pick for £1,500 - diesel or gas, auto or manual, 520, 523, 525, 528 and 530 in all conditions and not unreasonable mileage. Hell, Baron was £1,077 2 years ago, as a 160k 523i. Still going easily.

The Impreza... no. There's one sub-£1,500 turbo GD (Bugeye) Impreza 5dr available in the UK right now and it's badly, badly broken. In fact it's the only one sub-£2,000 one too. If he paid £1,500 for that, last July when they bought the cars, something catastrophic should occur with it soon.

Okay on the question of budgets, I was suprised by the Scooby also, it set-me wondering though...

Do the cars have to be 'road-legal' as we know it in the UK to be driven in places like Uganda etc.? Just thinking that if you had a bad MOT failure, or maybe a cat C car, you could probably find some that are well under book price..

.. also not to mention, that if there's any name dropping going on I'd happily flog my car on the cheap to Top Gear for one of their specials.

Next episode I will be scrutinising the shut lines on the Impreza, right up in front of the screen with my calipers and slip gauges in hand.

My money would be on a roughly repaired write-off. Let's hope Hammond has to pop the bonnet open so we can get a look at where the serial numbers have been removed :P.

I'm half expecting Hammond to set it on fire "unintentionally" with his gas stove in part two.

That said, Africa is a beautiful continent. The parts they show, anyway.

I saw this by quick search on eBay: Link

So it may have been possible to find one for £1,500 depending on condition and how many were available for sale at time.

Might have gotten a deal, you know kind off your car will be engraved into the history books of top gear if you give us a cut price deal :D

Anyway agreed with the Africa comment,I would like to go south one day

That is definatly going to happen. The bit were it showed the pan on the hob for a while was enough to convince me. In fact, I'd probably put a fiver on it.

A mate of mine sold them the Alfa GTV that James used in the Alfa challenge.
He got some free tickets for the show as long as he dropped the price enough that it was under the budget.
And no, James May didn't do the negotiating.

So I was right  ,oh and now we need pics of that Alfa before he sold it :P

I watched this one last night on iPlayer, really enjoyed. The Jokes when they found the town of Jezza were predictable but I'm a mature individual so I still found them funny.

Are the crew men using a drone to film? They surely must be some angles they are shooting are astonishing

Dude, it's the BBC. They have a crap load of money. So, it's either a drone or they have a helicopter.

They are the richest show and most watched show in the world. They could go to space if they saved for like a week.

 They of course can but I was suggesting that because some shots seem more possible with a drone than a Heli, and having seen the preview for next week looks like they will use a drone for some other use.

I love the latest episode! 👍

Finding the source of the Nile River is a great challenge. Top Gear making history in a good way! I like how Clarkson was explaining his theories about the source. It makes me want to watch the next part ASAP.

The use of estate cars is a great choice too. Using them as homes is a clever way of surviving the African night (apart from the creepy crawlies Hammond hates). Jeremy's BMW seems to be pulling him down with the technical problems, such as the battery and the throttle. James's Volvo also seems to be pulling him down with its sport suspension and ride height. This resulted in adding a protector for the intercooler which was a part of the Beamer's door. Richard's Subaru was a clear winner IMO. Its off-road pedigree had won not only his heart but mine. I want a Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon!

My rating: 9.75/10. Best episode of series 19! 👍👍
I can't wait for part 2 next week! :D

EDIT: My fan trailer for the two episodes.

I thought that was very good, though not quite as good as Botswana. Though Richard had quite clearly chosen the most appropriate car for the job.
