Did anyone say otherwise?

It's television. Entertainment.

I don't know, I'm just unsure why we're taking this car discussion all so serious and try to find excuses why there should be a winner amongst the three cars when there clearly isn't.

It depends how you define a winner.

James was the true winner, the Volvo got him there. The Volvo is the winner.

But, if you wanted the winner to be the car that had less repairs, or less to repair. Then it is irrefutably the BMW.

I'm any case, the car that we all thought was more suited to this expedition, lost.

True winner is Hammond. His car literally pulled the other cars out of mud the first 20min they were there. His car was the only one that had no problem handling virtually everything. His car only broke at the very end but technically the others would of been stopped days ago. Finally if you had to choose a car of the three to drive yourself I promise it would be the Subaru because of the 4wd.

I think it was a pretty great trip. When the log smashed window it was hilarious. Also the raft wad pretty impressive really. It looked sketchy but seemed to work really well.

Not yet done with this ep, just now LMAO at JC's rear window busting out from his "hand brake", and then he asked, does it get any prettier than this, and I thought, South America? Oh right, yeah, they did the jungle special there. So my comment won't be able to say, you've never done a SA special, but seriously, get out of the jungle and South America is easily just as beautiful.

And, that's the A-team theme!

My choice would definitely be the Scooby. Seemed to have dealt with the rough stuff the best overall but the failure at the end was unfortunate. Was a pretty good special but my favourite still has to be the previous Africa one.

When I first saw that I thought it was staged (because something obviously had to go wrong with a Clarkson invention) but there's no way they could have made the log flip exactly as it did. Was one of the bigger laughs of the episode I thought.

Nah - the tether was the exact length required to get it up to ceiling height on a bounce. You'd just need to drive over a rutted road long enough at the right speed to make it inevitable. He'd only have needed six inch tethers to make it work and to not smash his rear screen.

The second and third sentences contradict each other.

Getting a stuck car out of boggy clay is relatively easy compared to getting a car with a destroyed front left corner moving again.

And then we saw the Impreza get stuck in sand...

I promise you it wouldn't be the Subaru because a £1,500 turbo GD hatch is not going to be reliable - as it turned out, though I was amazed the clutch didn't go before the suspension did - and it's barely an estate car, given that it has less than half the seats-up boot space of the Volvo.

I'd have taken the chance on slippery stuff (which they only encountered due to a rainstorm and a shortcut suggested by... Hammond) and risked the 5 series simply because it would be the most comfortable, the best cruiser and the most likely to get there. I wouldn't have picked a 528i Touring because the 528i offers nothing over the 525i except far worse fuel economy and nothing over the 530i except more slowness. I'd have gone 525i (Alusil) or 525d (with swirl flap delete) for that journey.

Only one car made it over the bumpy roads without shaking the contents to bits. Only one car made it to the end without shattering vital suspension components.

And it wasn't the Volvo (if you include the wheels, it shattered several vital suspension components) nor the "most suited car for the job" Subaru.

You are going to be insufferable.

Will get into.that brilliant part 2 later, surprised that's the end of the season, wasn't there a BAC Mono review during the trailer they shown in the first episode. ?

Yes. Most likely cut or saved for series 20.

Really enjoyed the special, but the series was just ok i thought, funniest part of last night was when jeremys hill climb log bounced and smashed his rear windscreen!

...also, Jeremy said that Top Gear will be back in the summer on Twitter after the show last night

Yeah that's probably it ,Is it confirmed they will return in the summer,Still for some reason not sure of that Jezza Twitter account

Same here with his Facebook account. I remember it asking around for an admin :/ Not Clarky then.

Twitter account seems that sites like Jalopnik and so are sure it is real, and to be honest I think it was that account that broke the news of when tthis series will begin first, but I don't know still  ,I am only sure of Hammond's account as he keeps posting.pictures of themselves

Interesting article on jalopnik on why Top Gear should still keep the 3 man line up.

Is it me or did the Stig not make more appearences than previous seasons?

The Africa special summed up the best parts of Top Gear that they have been lacking the last five years mainly the Cars all of us here wanted all the cars to make it and we now I assume love all 3 cars,They need to do more challenges and lessen the "stupid entertainment bit like the P45,elderly car segments etc) .

Oh and Overall I enjoyed this season 7/10 for me .Step in the right direction

I was disappointed that when they were changing the badges on the cars, they didn't change the Volvo to the Lolvo.

Clarkson tweeted earlier in the week saying that series 20 will air this summer. So although we have to wait about 5 or 6 months for it, we won't have to wait almost a year like we did with the series that just finished.

There's also some info concerning one of the challenges they're currently filming in New Zealand, as well as other vehicle testing.

Theres a best of top gear on tonight...they always put a few of those on after each series...

It is a shame there were only five proper episodes this series. I enjoyed the Africa episodes but they were the Christmas special, would have liked another couple of normal episodes as well.

The slots for Top Gear seem to get smaller by the year, the first few series all had 10-14 episodes! Probably down to the BBC realising that regardless of how stingy they are with the slots Top Gear will still get very high viewing figures and make plenty of money, seen as it is the worlds most watched TV programme! I do agree it is a great shame that there were so few episodes in this and many of the other recent series.

Especially since it was a year in between seasons.
