Cuberbatch was a decent guest although he offended Trekkies.

Well, he can't offend them any more like he already did with playing the role of Khan.

But anyway I liked the street course, looked pretty fun. I also liked the "No one expects the Spanish speed bump" line. ^^

Best ep of Top Gear this season.

But as already mentioned, that isn't really saying much.

The airport stuff was funny as 🤬 and the street race looked fun but there still seemed to be something lacking; probably the very distinct lack of anything that was actually fresh apart from the "raise-top" drag race. The cars have been heavily featured and if there was anything different about any of them that wasn't really conveyed to the viewing audience aside from James' reference to the dual-clutch, same challenges as has been featured in older trips just in a newer and somewhat more interesting location.

I personally think they're running out of things to do.

I agree with LP640, the boys are fresh out of ideas. So much so starting to think the BBC should cancel it, reinvent it to be more like "Old Top Gear", bring in some younger presenters and focus on the cars. Maybe bring back the boys for the christmas special, but only that. TG's becoming more a comedy rather than a car programme.

Cancel it why, they need to freshen up the ideas a bit yeah, but it's hardly unwatchable ,also in Today's age no body is short on a proper car show when shows like Driven etc on Youtube are just brilliant .

It won't happen because he and Clarkson are so connected but Andy Wilman needs replacing with a fresh face. Most of the ideas are his and he's clearly running out of them, relying more and more on scripted nonsense.

To the UK audience the format might feel very long in the tooth and I agree with you that a reboot or rethink is in order, the producers actually did say a couple of years ago that it simply can't continue in the same formula but nothing ever came of it and the reason why leads me on to this....

Top Gear is still fresh in many other countries, some are many series behind and others are queuing up to buy the rights to make their own versions. On the news the other day the BBC said Top Gear is their most watched program on earth and they just fully acquired the rights to global distribution mostly from Clarkson no less which has netted him further tens of millions.

Plus the fact that its light entertainment helps, its not hard hitting drama or something else which can be critiqued to pieces... it something people will casually watch whatever they show and judging by the ton's of junk people watch on mass its pretty high brow by comparison

On a side note I found the US version enjoyably refreshing. A younger cast and cars / places we have rarely heard or seen made it interesting.

Robin.

Who's the Fastest Superhero!!

We could have people dressed up as Iron man, Batman, Captain America, Hulk or with Hugh Jackman on the show, it could be the start of a competition between the actors who play them, like they could get Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Christian Bale on in future episodes!

Wolverine is the star in a reasonably-priced car this Sunday...

Dude, I was keeping that for the element of surprise of the episode, now you ruined it and I'm upset:grumpy: (JK)

Predictable and boring episode, with cars they reviewed, especialy the Audi (Audi vs. Porsche).
Oddly I find the news segment the funniest thing in the show. They've been losing quality over the years and I hope they can refresh a bit for the rest of the season and the ones to come.
The street circuit looked very interesting and I would love to drive it in GT

OK episode but same old same old.
Already reviewed these cars awsell.
The acting is terrible, like Samus said the natural off-the cuff lines were better and Hammond's acting arrrggggh!
Old Top Gear reviewed new cars.
At least the Lauda/Hunt doc was good and did anyopwatch the other doc on BBC four about deaths in F1,it was quite distressing but interesting.

I just watched Episode 2 of this season and by golly it was bad. I almost skipped the taxi race portion after a couple of minutes because it was so stale. I did enjoy the BAC and the Ferrari segment, though the Ferrari segment seemed rush and too short. I'll echo a few others sentiments here though that the cinematography and sound, at least for the actual car review portions, were fantastic.

Is Spain really that empty?! I was astonished by the fact how empty Spain and Madrid was.

No.

They went round showing all the buildings Spain was building during the boom that got abandoned once the money dried up after the economic collapse. As you likely noticed all the abandoned places were new or unfinished buildings.

But they do have empty airports and train stations, my parents went to spain last month and they said that there are a lot of unused train stations, and some airports.

Has anyone thought of converting some abandoned airports into race tracks yet?

DK

Yeh they did.

It's called Silverstone. :P

Ok ok it's a track round an old airfield but it still serves the same purpose and the airfield serves the track primarily.

And every other circuit in the country.

Was a so so episode,

Love the SLS e-cell and the colour is pretty cool. You could just order the standard SLS in that colour and save yourself tens of thousands!

The Hovervan, so obvious being that it weighs a ton that it wouldn't float with what they had initially fitted. The segment was kinda drawn out for what it was. James - "So when the river Penis bursts its banks..." LMAO.

That girl behind Hugh Jackman in the crop top   Top Gear being so blatant!

Best episode of the season so far. That electric Mercedes was cool, but we've got a long way to go before electric cars become practical. Hugh Jackman was funny, but I await the day when a celebrity comes on just to interviewed, just like in the old days, instead of coming on to promote a new film.

The hovercraft was one of their better designs, in theory it could be quite good if it was a bit less powerful and had a much larger fuel capacity.

The Hovervan. In all 20 seasons of Top Gear, the second worst feature they've ever done. Even the taxis a few weeks ago were better than it. I gave up with 15 minutes to go when it became clear there wasn't going to be anything else.

SLSs - good. Hugh Jackman - alright. But the whole Hovervan thing was atrocious.

Cut out the Hovervan and you had a pretty good episode. Sadly, that's like chopping three legs off a horse and expecting to win the Grand National.

Swap the Hovervan for the Snowbine Harvest and the River Avon for Norway. Both the gags and scale of the challenge were essentially the same, even down to the "random passer-by" directly bearing the brunt of their presence. Only the Snowbine was much, much easier to watch.

I enjoyed the odd joke or two, including Hammond getting soaked in the lock. It's just that the obviously-scripted chaos is wearing thinner than ever this time. The guy getting knocked from the boat for instance, I almost decided to end it there. I didn't however, but I only watched up to the point where they reached the weir. A phone call spared me the last 5 minutes.

The SLS Black/ED test was as good as any other vehicle test that's started off an episode this series, though. Which is good.

That girl behind Hugh Jackman in the crop top   Top Gear being so blatant!

I immediately expected at least one member to react that way. I know that feel.

In the states, we'd consider her trailer park material.

The hover-van thing was a good idea in theory but was horribly executed. At least when they made their amphibious car they tried to be sensible and make something that worked, with this it was a disaster from the start. Plus the segment wasn't entertaining either.

The electric SLS was cool though.

Not just in the states, her mouth is too big, her eyes are too far apart and she's too skinny.

I enjoyed the episode as a whole, the SLS segment was good, as was SIARPC. I enjoyed the hovercraft part but I almost turned it off when they plunged into the river the first time they tested it out on water. I was cringing whilst watching it. But after that it got better and made me laugh a little. So all in all it wasn't too bad.
