In addition, I very much doubt that google would knowingly host illegal videos.

They may not know it but that doesn't stop it being true. You can find several full length Best Motoring videos on Google Video that are certainly illegal to download.

Does anyone have any idea on the type of money the presenters are pulling in?

For a start JC does have an aquired wealth from years of video and book sales. This is shown by the fact he drives a £100k car...

Hammond seems to be on just about every TV show I can find, not to mention having his very own show. And yet he drives a morgan... Okay, nice car, but even for someone his height it doesn't seem very luxurious if he's on a nice high wage.

Then there's May. He drives porsche boxter, that he claims to only just be able to afford. He does drive a few others but most are old, approaching, if not already, classic status. He does TopGear and writes for the Daily Telegraph motoring.

But the odd thing is, May and Hammond are, as far as I know, both un-attached and don't have children. So where's all the money going?

N.b I know this is getting quite personal, but May's complaining how he would struggle to afford a £30,000 Aton Martin Lagonda and would have to sell a car or 2 to fund it got me thinking.

Hammond has a Porsche as well, but Jeremy does more high paid work than the other two put together. The deals Hammond get's are mainly for daytime shows, basically lower paid shows, the time of day less people watch/listen to these shows. May doesn't do much that I'd expect to make him a lot of money either, just being on TV doesn't automatically mean you get paid hundereds of thousands a year.

Yes but a £100K goes a long way for someone who isn't married and doesn't have kids (AFAIK).

[EDIT] Okay wikipedia prooved me wrong.

Hammond is married and has two young daughters. He owns 'two Land Rovers, a Suzuki GSXR1000, a Dodge Charger, a Porsche 911, a Morgan V6 Roadster and several kit cars,' (and quite a few farm animals)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Hammond

May on the other hand 'owns several cars, including a Bentley T2, a Range Rover, a Porsche 911, a Porsche Boxster S and several bikes'. He is not married and has no kids, but he does have a pet cat

That's what I'm saying, being a TV presenter doesn't automaticlally mean you get 100k a year. Besides that, if you earn 100k a year 40k of that's gone in tax straight away, then if you have a motgage you can lose a good 5k a year or more easilly, believe me, you spend ALOT of money on things besides your car.

Hammond doesn't have a Charger. He did have, but sold it. On eBay.

His two daughters are called, if I remember rightly, Izzy and Willow. His wife, hate-figure amongst womankind, is called Amanda.

yes i understand, BUT closer than alot of people, has anyone ever seen clarkson, hammond, or may driving around or whatever outside of any show or event

When you know what he drives it probably wouldn't be that hard. He doesn't exactly drive every day cars (except a Focus and an XC90...but those aren't all over the place.)

anyone see top gear last night, im pretty sure it was new, it started at 10:30 on bbc2, winter olympics special! they had a jag xk racing a skier on a speed ski-ing track, a lancer evo 6 rally car racing on a road parrallel to a bobsleigh run (hammond in the bobsliegh, may in the evo with a rally driver from norway) (the whole thing was shot in norway) a mini with attahced rockets going down a ski jump! and at the end , jeremy said this:

now, nobody has ever gone down a ski jump on a snowmobile, the same reason as we didnt put anyone in the mini, because they'd be killed!

you'd need a man with no fear, and you though we'd forgoten him!

here he is, THE STIG!

its was amazin watchin him go down the jump!

maybe a 1-off episode between series

There's a phrase for this attitude, NIMBY (not in my back yard). Though usually iit refers to hostels for drug rehabs and immigration detention centres.
Still they have every right to say no but I do think there's a lot of over-reaction to motoring these days. I mean a few cars thundering around an airfield is hardly going to cover them with smog is it? The towns population probably produce more pollution farting!

I think it's the noise more than anything, they do have the right to say no, but it doesn't look good for TopGear, the next season might be delayed quite a bit.

It's not so much that that bugs me. It's the fact the BBC haven't yet renewed the liscense on their old studio plot.
Top Gear has been granted temporary planning consent for its activities, but this expires on April 30.

Presumably because it was expecting to move to Oxfordshire, the BBC has not entered into negotiations with the local planning authority, Waverley council.

Jim Anderson, the council's head of development control, said: "There has been no application for an extension of existing consent. As that process takes about eight weeks, time is getting very tight. And there is no guarantee that permission will be granted."

We may have to wait till May or later before we see Top Gear in HD. Because Well BBC and Sky have agreed a deal to show the World Cup in HD, which gives us hope for HD Top Gear sometime this year guys.

Are any of the BBC channels HD yet?

I know sky have a HD channel, along with Discovery and National Geographic.

There's quite a few HD channels, as it happens.

They've recently (28th February) moved the music channels from 4xx to 3xx and the radio channels from 7xx to 0xxx, presumably to make space for more and more HD channels. There's two HD Sky Movie channels (9HD and 10HD), there's a Sky Sports 1 HD and a couple in the high 1xx range, along with the 5xx ones.

James May is on BBC1 Breakfast at 9:05am, talking about being on Top Gear and other stuff.

I've been watching re-runs on UK TV Gold.
excellent stuff.
How the hell does JC get all the good jobs? For instance when ever there is a race from London to Vienna/Oslo/Rome etc...he gets the Ferrari/MercSLR/Lambo ? its never the other two that is allowed the car?

Last night was the one with the buggy car with no body work. Had a Civic Type-R supercharged engine. 0-60 in 2.5 secs. and beat a racing motorbike round the test track by 4 secs.

cant remember the maker, some small British company.

It's really just for the challenge. The way the show is set up is generally that it's Jeremy against everyone else.
