I've been trying to get a good look at the rear of the real car, that'll say if it's an R or not, and just got a good look at it, it's not an NSX-R he uses irl. Besides that, the lap times wasn't the main point he got across, it was how much different the real thing is to doing it on a Playstation.

That proves it then, like I have been saying all along. GT4 is not realistic ( discussed this in another thread almost 8 months ago). No race sim is realistic.... The physics can be realistic (not GT4's) but not the sim itself as a whole. Jeremy proved it, the instructor said it etc....

No driving game can be totally realistic, as lots of people know, there are conditions in real life driving that can't come across in a game. G force effects on the driver, real life grip levels, all sorts, but of the driving games available, GT4 is definitly one of the most in depth games. :sly:

That's what i'm saying. He used a normal NSX in real life, but an R in the game.

If you watch the begginng bit closely, you'll notice that what he did is not actually possible. He selected the type of track while in GT mode, and then magically switched to arcade to select the actual track and car.

Maybe what we could do is tweak a stock NSX to see what kind of setup will consistantly get us a 1:50-2:00 lap time. Taking off ASM, using Economy tires, whatever. I think it'd be neat to find a standard "setup" that can yield realistic lap times. At the 'Ring, for example.. I can take a car round there like a minute faster than the same car IRL.. that ain't right. But with the right setup, maybe... hm. Make it more challenging, too, since the cars will become harder to control.

He obviousely didn't do it al in a single take, it's very possible what he did, because he showed us the track he'd use ie Laguna Seca, and then raced it in Arcade mode.

From the pic that was posted it definitly looks like a Type R on the game, so I took it round Laguna Seca also, default sports tires which JC MUST have used to get a 1:41 and I myself got a 1:39.8

Again, why MUST he have used Sports tyres, as I keep saying, the chances are he did but we just don't know, plenty of people have beaten 1'41 using N1's so the fact that that time is possible on N1's means he MUST have used sports tyres.

I don't see the point of those races. They can't be for real as they do too much filming at the same time.
Just a point on this, JC has been asked about this and here's his answer.

A lot of people ask how we film these races, and whether they're fixed. Well, let me say here and now, they're not. I follow a Range Rover tracking car, and we really don't pull over for anything exept fuel. In the drive to Oslow, the camera man spent 24 hours in the boot and had to relieve himself in a bottle because there was no time to stop.
Meanwhile, James and Richard are doing all they can to beat me. We take it very seriously.
But not half as seriously as the director who, when the race is over, has to retrace our steps, adding to the miles of tracking shots he took in the race, with many more miles of arty 'ups and passes'.

If I remember rightly, was that quote from the latest Top Gear Magazine (mentions Hamster's teeth a few times too.)?

Yep, his pages this last month are all about the show and how it's filmed ect.

I'm afraid this special episode being put behind the beginning of 24 Season 5. I'll have to record this and watch it later. :P

 That ruled, yeah Hammond got an amazing load of stick, but hey, its funny!

The Mini segment was just ace.
👍

Hope a friend recorded it, or that it shows up on Google Video? lol

I gotta say it was probably the best top gear episode I've ever seen.
The Stig jumping the snowmobile off the ski jump was insane! :scared:
and I loved James's reaction when he was told that the ice on the lake was 5 inches as opposed to 4 feet! :dopey:
