try but it only went to the american market in the first place cause they complained they werent getting it,then when they did they complained about clarkson attitude towards amercans, thats why they took it off and tried to replace it iirc.

Well, I can't be completely certain why it dissapeared here in America, but we had fewer than eight episodes show here. I think they were testing the water to see if the show had any legs in the American market, and while it kinda-did, they decided it wasn't American enough.

...atleast thats my best guess...

The problem is, there is a HUGE lack of automotive programming in the US these days. At one point in time, we did have television programs like Car and Driver Television and Motor Trend Television, but they both tanked on TNN/Spike because they were quite generic. One guy talks while the car is shown on the TV... Great! So, how about doing more with the car than driving it around in Michigan and Ohio?

Top Gear was a breath of fresh air for the automotive culture in America, and it is quite unfortunate that it has only floundered about. I recently saw that the Americanized versions of Top Gear were running on The Science Channel, which I found quite odd. The problem is that I'm not sure if the program recieved enough press to get the recognition that it deserved. It appeared on the Discovery channel without notice, and thus ended in the same way as well.

They could bring it here without modification I think, anti-American jokes included. Americans will watch it, particularly those who are interested in cars. They could run it on the Discovery Channel or TLC without issue, as both have lineups that are associated with motoring. Stick Top Gear on Discovery on Sunday after American Chopper, and you've got a winner. Stick it on TLC after Overhaulin', and you've got a winner.

...So why haven't they done it?

I have no clue. But untill then, I'm stuck with FinalGear, RacingFlix, and YouTube.

Weird. That convertible Gallardo is hardly any different to the coupe and he loves it to bits...

Can't believe they stopped the Stig! Don't they have some REAL criminals to go around catching instead of bothering motorists. jeeez, the UK policeforce needs a swift kick up the rear end!

On the whole an ok episode. The Gallardo noise made me drool. lol

I doubt the police thing was real, the chances of having a traffic BMW 3 miles from Knockhill are slim. Knockhill runs advanced driving courses on public roads near the track and I reckon some of the drivers just might creep over the speed limits ;)

Well it's hardly worth contemplating how much of Top Gear is staged. Makes the program really rubbish if you try to rationalize the stupidity rather than just laugh at it :P

Whenever I watch Top Gear these days I make sure I've got a mountain of salt at hand...

youd be surprised, usually at the hot hatch days they usually send down a scamera van

That was class, I enjoyed the build a Caterham challenge. But I do think the Stig getting arrested was just setup?

I don't belive that they managed to build that caterham without any help though, or if they did they didn't do it to that time limit.

Also the bit with the stig at the end was awesome.

Thank you captain obvious.

The Stig getting arrested was obviously staged, but funny anyway. I liked the people carrier section, and also the new Gallardo test. It was also quite funny to see the Caterham building section, although I too found myself doubting they did it unaided. But like I always say, it's entertainment before anything else and I don't really care how real/staged it is.

Like they said, he's not as daft as he makes out on the show. Remember when that guy was talking about the diff on the ProDrive P2. On the show he hadn't got a clue... Apparently. But behind the facade, he'll have probably understood it all.

Yet he cannot fit a seat right on his first go?

From Brunel too - pretty much the #1 engineering university in the land...

And a second doctorate in engineering from Oxford Brookes...

there's a clip on the Top Gear website of Jeremy Clarkson driving around with a Veyron. Any idea what season/episode that's on?

Indeed. The whole point of that bit was most likely to help relate the audience (most of whom wouldn't understand that mumbo-jumbo) to Clarkson. And audiences like someone they can relate to.

So, does anyone know when the 997 Turbo is going to have a go on the show? I can see from YSSMAN's signature that Clarkson has driven it, so it can't be too far off...

no that was real.he really was pulled over but the crew then realised that he wasnt gonna make it in time so they just "played along" with it i.e putting him in the car

Stig behind the wheel of the (Ferarri built) Maserati MC-12 Road Car knocking nearly a second off the Enzo Ferarri's lap record was pretty special.

The show with the unbreakable Aussie Toyota Hilux still has to be my favourite! They tried to destroy it, but it was still working, although they did need a bit of WD-40 after they found it at the bottom of the Severn estuary!

Nearly a second? I don't think so... it was 0.1 seconds. The Enzo at 1:19.0, the MC-12 at 1:18.9.
