Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

I guess its because of hanging around too long in one area and more and more people are arriving (I call it spawning)...
I never had to face more than nine or ten guys in one area, usually in two or three waves.

I have fired at a guy 3 times and he didn't die, maybe just hit his limbs...
Or missed. They will duck and cover. Or see my AK-47 comments below.

I'm used to games with hundreds of rounds where you can be trigger happy... thats probably why I'm running out of ammo..... I just spray the general area where a baddy is!.. guess its more of a tactical game than that!
I found 40 rounds for a hand gun to be generous as I didn't see anywhere on his outfit to hold that many clips. But yes, part of the tactical side of the game is ammunition management. You don't just have to kill every guy, but do it in a way so you have an opening to grab another clip someone else dropped. That is the joy of a cover system is that you aren't having to spray bullets everywhere.

Also, if you are using an AK-47 and not being careful it could explain why you think you hit a guy three times, but didn't. If you keep firing it actually begins to kick back and up, so you have to hold it down against the kick if you want to actually hit with anything more than your first shot. While realistic, I found it annoying and so I stuck with the shotgun instead. Besides, one upper body shot with the shot gun took out most guys who were close. That was another thing I liked is that the shotgun didn't just have a limited range, but its effectiveness decreased with distance. Most games just make it a short range gun, but here you could hit anyone at a distance and they would react and take cover, a mid-range distance would actually knock them down, and a close shot made them splatter and die.

Besides all this, it just wasn't quite what I expected.. but then again demos are demos.. I think someone said this was an old build??
Even for an early build this was one of the better demos in a while, especially with all the crappy ones we've gotten from EA lately.

Thanks for all the info there FoolKiller :)👍.....

I will be playing the demo more over the next few days so i may start to see the little cool bits of realism that I may be overlooking at the moment. See how it goes and also wait for some reviews...

Well, my guess is, this game is much like Resistance. There's a learning curve involved. I like shooting from a far distance away. I've got too much of a sniper in me. Four shots to the head will bring a man down from the far distance I like to shoot. Closer up, it's only two. Even closer, near PBR, it's only one. Just like Resistance. The closer you are to the enemy the more 'effective' your shots are, which for game like this was/is a stupid idea, IMO.

Whatever, I'm not going to get it.

Any time I shoot an enemy in the head, he dies. I dont agree with you at all.

Try shooting them in the head at a distance. They wont go down on just one shot. Trust me.

For example, I shot a guy with the AK at pretty close range and he went down with just three shots to the upper torso. One guy I shot at a distance didn't go down until 12 shots to the upper torso.

Like I said before, this game, much like Resistance, makes you get in real close to the action for quick kills. I don't like that at all.

I think you're insane, but I'll try it out later anyway.

One reason I can see why it's like that in Resistance is to reduce "camping" (why it is a unacceptable play style, I have no clue). But why would they want to reduce camping in a single player game like Uncharted?

Camping? lol I call it what it really is, sniping. Besides, they shoot at you while you do it, and they hit you quite often if you don't take cover often enough.

There is a sniper rifle in the game, I wonder if they made the other weapons less effective at long range so people would use it?

Yeah, the pistol is 100 times better than the AK in the demo. The AK is pretty ridiculous. All it does is spray bullets which barely hurt the enemy. it should take 1 or, AT THE VERY MOST, 2 shots to kill someone with an AK. Instead you have to waste like 10 rounds on one dude.

The shotgun is the best gun, followed by the pistol.

Finally played the demo and I really felt let down, after seeing all the nice screen shots and cut scenes this was not thrilling at all, the mechanics reminded me so much of stranglehold with regards to moving through the environments and the combat.

The graphics are not as jaw dropping as I expected, the plants look a bit too false always swaying in repeating patterns but its the combat I hate the most.

The cover system is ok but stuff doesn't get shot up (in the demo) and you tend to get hit hiding behind stuff anyway. As has been mentioned shooting bad guys 4 times in the head is stupid and they seem to constantly respawn! You run out of ammo way too quickly, the grenade system is strait out of gears, nice use of the sixaxis but it seems a bit out of place.

I don't know how to describe it, its like the games story and design is great but the gameplay lets it down...

Robin

Wait wait wait...

You're the guy who always complains about PS3 ports of 360 games, yet when one game that looks visually better than every 360 game is released...you're let down? lawl.

And you're mad because the AI is smart? So you think you can hide behind the same rock, and when enemies come around the sides and flank you...you think it creates a worthless cover mechanic? lawl.

You think enemies respawn? Were you not paying attention to them running in from different parts of the map? not one enemy respawns, and none of their bodies disappear. lawl again? yes.

Also, headshots from a distance do not kill with a pistol, because the range, power, and accuracy are all reduced from long distance. Headshots with an AK from long distance, however, do kill with one hit. Had you played the game apparently more than once (or knew how to play games in general) you'd know this. Point blank range shots to the head with the pistol will kill enemies in one hit.

Grenade system = nothing like gears. They both use an arc....wooooow....awesome comparison.

Stop while you're ahead...for me. Just go back to complaining about PS3 ports and everything will be fine.

Or because many weapons, especially something like a handgun, do become less accurate and have less stopping ability at a distance. Or they want the gameplay to be strategic in that you have to keep moving your cover to be more effective. I found I did better by working my way around and not just sitting in one cover spot hoping to shoot every guy down.

I would first take down any guys to the sides, then I would jump to another spot on the side and take down anyone within a close range, then I move up and snag their ammo and grab a better position to take the farther away guys. When I tried sitting in one spot I died, but when I played it again and kept moving from cover to cover (notice you can make him dive roll from one cover spot to another - it is designed for this) I not only didn't die once, but I was more effective and quicker. It encourages you to not let yourself get pinned and to not get past each section by standing in one spot while shooting.

The AK is too hard to control and between the shaking and having to constantly control it I was never completely sure if I actually was hitting anyone beyond the first shot. When I fired off one shot at a time I was just as effective as the handgun, which is why I ditched it because I didn't need two handguns.

The shotgun is the best gun, followed by the pistol.
👍 Agreed. I loved the shotgun.

I know, my friend who is a manager called me because gamestop made a mistake in sending out the auto call back 4 days early so now they are obligated to sell them. Not sure if i want it though, just not my kinda of game.

Thanks for the heads-up JR & LaBounti. The news must have spread quickly as they were almost entirely sold out by the time I went by this afternoon:

Just so people know, in the real world, if you, or anybody for that matter, is shot once in the head with a .45ACP at 100+ yards, you will die instantly.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Now, this game ain't the real world, I know that. But, that doesn't mean the combat scenarios have to be so... stupid.

I think they were too lazy to do it correctly. Like in MGS, or other games, when somebody is shot, they cannot move around like normal. In this game, three shots to the head with a .45ACP and they can still move around like NBA stars.

Lame.

I'll gladly go capture vids to prove you wrong, if you would like.

Since you apparently suck with aiming.

I already explained it.

and lmfao @ too 'lazy'. Considering this is THE BEST looking game out (tops MGS4 even) and you're calling them lazy.

Golden.

Just face the facts, you can't be pleased, NOTHING this generation has been 'good enough' for the all mighty Solid Lifters. Nothing.

Actually, since the .45 round is quite large and heavy for a pistol round, it tends to lose energy very quickly once it's out of the barrel, so it's debatable about how much power it would have 100+ yards downrange.

As well, pistols are notoriously inaccurate past a few dozen yards, especially the heavier rounds, so your chances of actually hitting something that far away are minimal.

All you guys are a minted bunch! 👍

Dunno if minted exists in the US but basically you guys are lucky to be able to buy like two games on the fly like that.... I need to budget loads for these things!

Just got the demo, but this game is way too hard for me even on Easy, lol. And are the graphics really that great to some of you? I wasn't that impressed. The shadows on the faces and on rocks look a little exaggerated to me.

Well, you may not be impressed by the art direction, but from a technical stand point, nothing on any console comes close right now.

Maybe Call of Duty 4.

edit: oh, console.

Well... I personally don't think COD4 is even a "maybe". I didn't think all that about its graphics, despite what the reviews said. It's better than COD3's, but it's not as sharp or crisp as GOW... It's smoke, shadows and effects are pretty good though.

Gears of War is all smoke and mirrors. CoD4 has better models, animation, lighting, sound (oh god does it have better sound). The complete package is significantly better than Gears of War. Gears of War is a good starting point to beat for visuals, but Call of Duty > it when it comes to everything together.

Sort of in the way Killzone puts together minor details to really shine.

That said, Uncharted > CoD and GoW.

See someone that agrees with me! I played on easy and it took a few attempts to complete because I kept running out of ammo..... The think the graphics are nice but not jaw dropping...

Its a good all round game but the combat lets it down for me...

Im as big a PS3 fan as the next person and I am not complaining, everyone has different tastes and I am merely pointing out the things that I dislike..

Yeah sure they maybe accurate and intelligent, but maybe I just don't go for guns where the bullet looses power the further it goes, realism like that is great but to me Uncharted it meant to be a adventure / treasure hunt... not a shooter... now realism like, for example, the getting wet effects and the bits of rocks that fall when you clamber over them is great in this genre.

Every game out this generation, EVERY SHOOTER, EVERY GAME that involves pistols has poor accuracy from a distance. You COULD NOT have been close enough to get an accurate headshot. PERIOD.

If you REALLY want me to do some video capture, I will, and I'll show you hundreds of headshots, all killing. It's a matter of distance and accuracy.

Why don't you say the game is simply too difficult for you and leave it at that?

OK, just out of interest how far would you say you have to be to kill a guy with the pistol with one head shot?.. I would like to know for reference so I can try it out.

And the game is not too hard for me... completed the demo on the second attempt. Challenging yes, but impossible no.

Well I think your photo must have bored its way into my subconsciousness as today I popped into the local Best Buy and what did I leave with? Of course, Assassins Creed: Limited Edition and Uncharted. One of the great things about being gainfully employed is not having to wait for a bday or xmas :D
