Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Yes you did sir, as always 👍

As far as Uncharted goes, I'm only about an hour into it. I am purposefully waiting for my shiny new DS3 to show up before continuing on. Also in the meantime I'm making a concerted effort to finish AC. An amazing game in its own right in many respects, but also very flawed as well. But after completing my 6th assassination I very much do not regret the money spent. On the other hand, I do expect that Uncharted will prove to be the more overall cohesive and balanced gaming experience.

I looked the DS3's up on yesasia and they were like 100 dollars, or somewhere up there, but I am jealous. How much did you spend for yours?

I got mine for $74.99 shipped. Took about a week from placing the order to getting it in hand. Double checking yesasia it still looks they are advertised at $79.99 and there should still be a $5 off coupon code floating around the net somewhere. The also have the white one in stock for those that desire the storm trooper look.

As far as the controller itself, well proportion wise is an exact replica of the 6axis only about 50% or so heavier. Also, probably thanks to the extra weight of the motors, it feels much more sturdy. The 6axis to me feels kinda flimsy in comparison. Anyhoo, all the buttons and triggers feel the same and seem to have the same basic resistance and travel. And in Uncharted it indeed rumbles at all those moments that you would expect, as I've always liked rumble it's definitely nice for me to have it back :)

80 bucks for a ****ing controller is a complete rip off... :(
It is a supply issue. At that price importers sold out all preorders. Combine supply with the addition of being imported in general and it makes since.

Personally, I can wait for it to be regularly priced in the states.

Yep, its only that expensive because of having to import it, and yes, when it comes to the U.S. next year, it will only be $50.

Well so much that extra cash expense got me, I actually received a defective unit :ouch:. It worked fine for 2 days or so playing F1, Uncharted, AC and CoD4. Then on the 3rd day when after I booted up Uncharted Drake continuously acted like I was holding down the left stick, even though I wasn't touching it or any other button/stick/pad. So I did what you might expect, powered the controller on/off, powered the console on/off, connected it via USB cable, hard rebooted the console and changed the wireless ID a few times. All to no avail though, nothing would shake it free from this annoying behavior. :grumpy: Worse still is that whatever perpetual DO loop it had gotten itself into applied to any menu/screen associated with it and would many times preclude recognizing face button commands. So there were times I couldn't turn the damn thing off 'cause the OS wouldn't recognize/get the X button input on the turn controller off selection text. Anyhoo... not that big a deal, just annoying because I was really, really enjoying it. I'm sure it is gonna take like 2 weeks to get it replaced.

Win some, lose some I guess.:indiff:

@icelt,

Sorry to hear about your defective controller...., especially at the premium price. Other than it crapping out on you, how did it work on Drake's Fortune and other games?

Whoops. Yes I did mean the DS3.
Well, that sucks.

Good luck getting that replaced. It's cases like this where I decide waiting for it to show up in Best Buy is my best option.

Yeah it may take some effort, but I always have the stop payment trump card should they prove unnecessarily difficult. And I can completely understand the waiting strategy, but sometimes I just can't keep that money from burning a hole in my pocket. This time I'm realizing the consequences, which is kinda annoying. In the grand scheme, no big deal though :)

Edit----------------
Forgot to mention something, I think I found a bug in the DTS sound mix. It occurs in the Flooded City (or whatever it is called) and manifests as static/popping noises coming out of the front right channel. It only happens for a brief little section of that level and seems to just up and go away after getting through a certain section. I forgot to test the DD mix at the exact same location to see if appeared there too, so I can't clarify any further there. I have with various sources confirmed it is not a problem with my speaker, receiver or PS3.

Anyway this probably does not impact hardly anyone else, I'm guessing most of ya'll with 5.1 systems don't bother to fiddle with the default sound setup, but I just thought I'd throw it out there as a FYI.

I've downloaded the demo of this game a couple of days ago, and although it's not really the type of game that I'm into, I have to say it really surprised me in a positive way.
For starters, the graphics (even on my 32" SD TV) look much better than all the screenshots I had seen until then, and also because it's fully in portuguese, with very cool voices of real actors that make the translated version very credible. 👍

Also, the overall sceneries are just jawdropping, very next-gen, and the gameplay is easy for beginners and very addictive. If I hadn't bought a game very recently (CoD4), I'd surely get this one.

This is something I am seeing with games on Blu-Ray. The extra space makes it much easier to add multiple language tracks. I think Heavenly Sword had all seven languages on the same disk.

This is definitely a bonus to both consumers and publishers as the games are region free so they only have to produce one version and then consumers from wherever can get the game in their language, or one they will know.

Of course, how well this is taken advantage of will depend mostly on the developers.

Yea, I have heavenly sword, and it allows you to pick a language. Although, I dont think that there are 7.
I had heard seven, but I could be wrong. Or it may give you a choice based on your region. I know they said they couldn't have done it with a DVD.

Yep, its a great one. So, were you born into English or Portuguese? You obviously speak both extremely well.

Why thanks! But portuguese only, buddy.
My written english is a lot better than my spoken one, because I usually never speak english, other than when my cousin from Canada (hot babe, btw) spends a few days here (about a week or two a year), and now on CoD4, since I got my headset.

I'm actually surprised people understand what I'm saying...

My spoken spanish, french and italian are a lot better.

Ahh, I gotcha. I lost my headset that I got with Warhawk, so I still havent attempted to get online with a headset yet. Oh well. Haha, I am supposed to be going to michigan for christmas, what was your cousin's number again??

@icelt,

Sorry to hear about your defective controller...., especially at the premium price. Other than it crapping out on you, how did it work on Drake's Fortune and other games?

Sorry there Pako, I somehow completely missed your question. Yeah prior to wiggin' out on me it worked GREAT. I was really happy with it. I loved the little extra heft the vib motors bring to the feel of the 6axis. Although heavier it just feels more appropriate to me, if that makes any sense. Also the handles feel more rigid. With my original 6axis I notice that the seams of the handles allow for a little movement of the 2 clam shell halves relative to one another. But with the DS3, they effectively feel like one solid piece of plastic.

Vibration wise it worked just fine. With Uncharted it rumbled at all those times that you would expect it would. I do think I have to agree with other reviews I've seen on the interwebs that claim the vib "power" is a little less than the DS2. So the DS3 doesn't seem to shake quite as vigorously in Uncharted as compared to the DS2 in God of War II, for example. One quick additional note, the cut scenes in Uncharted were not programmed with rumble. No big whoop, but once again another difference between it and something like GoWII or MGSIII (if I remember correctly). I really want to see how it works with F1:CE, alas it may be awhile before I can report back on that one. :grumpy:

guys did you notice a lot better graphics when you go to darker screen settings?
everything looks a lot better and spookier. a lot more detail can bee seen especially when he finds the WWII Uboat in caves its really neat since you need a flashlight to see now. too bad in some caves he does not use one :(

Today Yahtzee put up his review of Uncharted. Haven't watched it yet but I'm guessing some aspects got a right grilling. Can anyone say "jet ski" and "cartoony monsters?" ;)

Uncharted Rises on Amazon's Bestsellers List, Gets Some Much Deserved Respect
Published on June 03, 2008 by Matt Swider
Remember hearing about Uncharted's less than fortunate early sales charting despite being a critical hit? Although it eventually went on to become a million seller worldwide, 1UP initially mentioned that:

"Naughty Dog's PS3 debut, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, not only failed to show up in the top ten software sales for November, but only managed 117,000 sales, according to the NPD Group, during the two weeks it was available last month."

A little more than six months later, a lot of gamers who missed out on Naughty Dog and Drake's first PS3 adventure are going to get a chance to pick the game up for cheap (33% off) on Amazon today. You can too, as it's part of the Gold Box Deal of the Day.

As a result of being featured as the Deal of the Day, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has all of a sudden rose on Amazon's video game sales rank to #2, passing Wii Fit, the Wii Wheel and the Wii console itself. The only thing that stands in its way is Mario Kart Wii, which it could potentially overtake for the #1 stop before the Deal of the Day ends.

Also climbing the charts is the PS3 Blu-Ray remote to spot #6. In addition to chopping 1/3 off the price of Uncharted, Amazon is selling the remote for $15, a real steal since it usually costs close to $25 in stores. However, the remote is part of the very limited "Lightning Deals" group, so it's only available for the next hour and a half, whereas the Uncharted sale is going all day.

This is quite a switch for PS3 items, as 8 of top 10 items on Amazon's video game Bestsellers list are Wii products, which have steadily dominated the Amazon chart. For now, Uncharted is finally getting some much deserved sales respect to equal its critical reception.

Hopefully this will help encourage Naughty Dog to develop future Uncharted games.

Uncharted is a great game. I loved every minute of it, and while it was kinda short, and not much replay value, I definitely think it redefined the cinematic genre of video games.
