Update 1.03 (Released - January 14th)

I said 1/13 was a holiday so we SHOULDN'T expect an update today.
Last week people were saying 1/13 because AUTO SHOW but you see how that turned out.
Like everywhere else, when the clock strikes midnight it no longer the 13th. The update can be then loaded tonight, from our perspective, since Midnight is passed already. It's 5:25 AM right now in Japan Tuesday morning. So the update can be ready as in little as three hours, from now, proving that they start their day at 8 am. That make it for us north american around 6 pm Eastern.

Oh, we've seen it so many times over the years. The normal one is when a shop publishes a release date online. This is always bollocks, but nevertheless it gets believed and, better still, Sony/PD get blamed when the game doesn't meet this fictional release date and "delayed again" gets trotted out.

(this unbelievable GT4 car list situation)

It happened to this thread at the beginning, the RedBull events being delayed lead to speculation that it will be an update, and magically:

Speculation/opinion one day = fact the next day

One other situation comes to mind, and it's a very recent one:

"GT7 might be released as soon as very late 2014"

(a short time later)

"GT7 TO BE RELEASED IN 2014!!! CONFIRMED"

Exactly, I have never believed in "what a thread says" or "what someone says" with the exception of Kazunori releasing a statement, but I'd rather read it on the GTP news section. Anything on the forums is just discussion, mights become will, maybes become confirmed, opinions become facts. If people want legitimate news then read that GTP section, as all the content and info on there are posted by staff and mods, all of whom would never post unconfirmed or speculative content.

Updates come @3am GMT, 9pm US I believe.
If the update comes hours after the 1/13 US work hours have ended, I don't consider it to be released on 1/13. That's probably just me though.
And the people releasing it are already in 1/14 anyway.

Right, the car had literally just been unveiled as we got it in game. They cannot model a magical interior that they have no reference on. It's a relatively important new car, and it's a PREMIUM car. Once they made an interior for it, they put it in - simple logic. If you can give me another example of a premium car that needs an interior, go ahead and give me it.
Ok, dont know if you do this on purpose but i get hooked. See, if they get all details about the exterior and how it should handle, i just cant imagine they didnt get the interior? What is this leading to in the future? Lets promise 3000 cars and interiors will come somewhere on the road. PD can still decide to wait until they have a fully finished car since as you say it is a premium Before they release it. I dont like this trend PD are doing now...as with the Stingray.

It's not what PD wants to do, it's the manufacturer that dictates what they put in the game. This is DLC. Free stuff at that. It's not a promised car as in your hypothetical situation.

This so much. And if I want the last, final, diamond-reinforced confirmation, I head to gran-turismo.com.

What better source of official info than the game's site itself? (interviews aside, obviously)

To add to what hsvolo said:

PD just provides a new medium for car manufactureres to advertise ;)

But then again, Kaz could say i will not release a car without cockpit...

But that would be double standards, with no puns intented.

What? So PD is just doing as manufactorers say? Yes, they compromise alot, like no good damagemodels, but this was elaborate marketing strategy, revealing of the car, putting in half of the car and then revealing the second.

You're about a decade wrong. GT2 was the first game to be affected by a release delay, pushing it back a week from the originally announced launch date. GT3 and 4 were both delayed from original launch dates - GT4 quite a bit - and GT5 was, like GT2, a few days off its original schedule due to missing a disk factory deadline. GT6 was released on the day it was first announced it was going to be released, so it doesn't continue the pattern at all. In fact if you lived in the Middle East, it was released a week early.

There have been no delays in software updates in GT5 or GT6 to my knowledge. There is no delay to v1.03 because it hadn't been announced - until literally 20 minutes ago.
people keep saying that the GT6 launch was botched but I found it pretty impressive that PD/Sony managed a world wide simultaneous launch the way they did.

It starts to really feel like this. Nothing wrong, but then next step is a free game and buying tracks or extra accessories or liveries will start to. Buying GT ingame Money to . Trend is going this way.

I've said it once and i'll say it again, if that's your view on the subject you're delusional on how the whole thing works. And yes, without complete compliance with manufacturers, there would be no cars at all in the game. Also, what is this 'compromise' you speak of? Do you think they cut back on other features to have 1 new interior?

All im saying is that BMW payed to do this. You say they dont pay they dictate the terms. I say that this is not good at all since PD should dictate what is published, how and when and hopefully to please the customers. You say it is the way the industry works and PD have so many Resources in their team they can do all things at once and should be grateful BMW Went to them first. Summerized?

PLEASE COMMUNITY FEATURES!

Gosh I really don't care about the BMW. BMW stopped being cool in the late 80s.

If you ran a game company with that philosophy and demanded certain things from manufacturers, you wouldn't get very far in producing a game.

The other way around is as valid. And as i said, they could have introduced the car as a complete from start and keep updates to actually have updates that matter. Now i feel updates start to be promoupdates instead of fixing bugs or adding gamecontent.

Fixed it for you ;) Unless of course you are a BMW or PD insider that actually witnessed money change hands all you are doing is giving your opinion as to what you think happened yet you state it in a more matter of fact way.

Right, this is FREE DLC. You're getting a whole extra car for free. It's not as if they are releasing a car instead of other things, they are bundled. Getting something extra in with the update doesn't instantly nullify it as being some promotional swizz, there are real bug fixes in there.

I think Mulan looks at it like PD released an interior-less "Premium" car and that we shouldn't be happy about it. I don't like interior-less cars very much, but I know that a great percentage of car game players don't use the interior view. Then, there's the thing about BMW making PD release the car with no interior and then with the "official M4 reveal" being today, BMW told PD ahead of time to have an update which can (or MUST!) coincide within 24 hours of this reveal for the interior to be added...for publicity/marketing. Hmmm...

Hmm, so at the moment we know all of the 1.03 information... that no one asked for, thanks PD.

If this was just sort of released as a surprise, it'd be pretty cool, well actually the FT-1 looks horrid imo, pre-smashed. And the M4 was a huge disappointment, have no interest at all in the interior.

Is this meant to be a distraction from the clearly late and still missing seasonals and/or the red bull events? That's what it looks like to me.

Bug fixes, Seasonals, Red Bull Events, Physics/Graphics updates, anything else I wouldn't want to wake for.

Yes this, but i think actually PD did this because BMW payed not because BMW demanded that this is the way they wanted and PD had to do so for free or no deal at all. That is my feeling. PD must be careful when doing stuff like this, because there are many cars that deserve to be included that players have asked for but didnt get yet.
