Update 1.03 (Released - January 14th)

Is this really an update? Wonder how much BMW is paying for this ad.

Nothing. Most car manufacturers (bar Porsche) would love for their cars to be featured in a franchise as embedded in automotive culture as Gran Turismo. It's great how deep PD's ties with the automotive world are. How many games out there have production cars that aren't even available to the public yet (in the case of the M4 BMW)? How many games out there have 20+ design houses working on a concept just for a game? How many games have the unbounded creations of a technical genius who has spear-headed the four latest world titles of a championship winning Formula 1 team? I can't think of too many to be honest ;)

Im talking about BMW not PD, PD would not pay anything except with their time to create the car and then update the game and actually pospone other updates. Dont think any of this is free and BMW knows that the players of GT6 are most probably potential carbuyers.
Real PD updates that they want to do them selves end up as DLC to buy.

No, they did it because this was the most important update on their list..yeah money didn't play any part at all.
Sorry im using irony, but really you must understand that this is pure marketing from BMW.

No, it's not. Why it would be interesting for the brand to have a car half finished? What happened is that they probably haven't finished the interior details and package and asked PD to release without it until the car gets finished.

The cars being in the game work as a marketing exercise for sure but it's not only that. And to GT have relevance with the car industry, it's goos that the releases are synchronized.

Hahaha...what carinterior are you missing? ;)

About 800 of them.

I belive the toyota ft-1 is the project toyota and bmw.
It's not. That'll be a hybrid - the FT-1 is pure gasoline.

What I am referring to is large DLC packs that extend 'career mode' a substantial amount. Sort of like what some were thinking "Spec 3" in GT5 might have included. Kaz talked about extending A-Spec in GT5, but it never materialized beyond seasonals.
I agree entirely.

What you mention above gives my some hope that they might do that for GT6 in the future since it can obviously be done in GT6.
And that was what I was kinda getting at.

Bit disappointed to see that the cars added so far haven't been added to AI use lists (obviously the RB Kart and Junior have - but only for their specific events) though. The M4 would be a belter in Schwarzwald.

Great read that something is coming tomorrow. Especially because it came with a quite reliable proof. :)

Just for the lazy people...

"[...] In the next Update 1.03 (planned for 14 January 2014) the interior of the car [BMW M4] will be added to make the release complete. [...]"
This is pages and pages old and even has a news article from earlier this morning.

Update 1.03? Can I hazzzz the Vettel Challenge I've been waiting two weeks for?
No.

In the in-game Notifications you'll notice it says that the bit that says 1/1/2014 was an error and it won't actually be available until the end of this month.

Newey needs to tone down his amazingness for now. Or at least make it so that Vettel only wins by 1-4 points instead of 20 each time

Everyone in the thread were saying it'll be today so *shrug*
Actually, they weren't. Some people were, but that's meaningless without any actual information to support it.

Wait for information from Sony or PD - or GTPlanet actually reporting it - rather than completely unreferenced third party claims.

I'm sorry, but have you noticed that literally everybody wanted the interior view? It's a premium car, of course they're going to want to add an interior. If you think this is a stunt by BMW, you're highly delusional about the world of marketing.

I couldn't give a tin fart in a whirlwind about content at this point in GT6 development. Sony and PD have been paid more than enough money to have their software alpha/beta tested. Fix the replay issue and the pit stop glitches. Add triples support for all those that paid for the game thrice. Make the game functions work, then add content.

In terms of licensing, whether money changes hands between Sony and individual car manufacturers very much depends upon who they are.

Many will give their rights for free simply because it's a privilege for them to get their brands in a big game like GT. Some will charge because that's what they do and they have the brand strength that means companies will pay - Ferrari undoubtedly fall into this category as they are very aggressive when it comes to exploiting their brand for cash.

Then there will be a large group of manufacturers that will give their rights in exchange for marketing assets. I would think most of the Japanese companies would be in this group. So PD will create for them renders, demos of GT6 featuring only their cars, give them Playstations and wheels as promotional prizes etc.

I've seen that so many times. :D

"Hey guys, update 1.04 is coming out today at 6!"

"Where'd you get that from?"

"Some bloke in an online lobby said so." :P
Oh, we've seen it so many times over the years. The normal one is when a shop publishes a release date online. This is always bollocks, but nevertheless it gets believed and, better still, Sony/PD get blamed when the game doesn't meet this fictional release date and "delayed again" gets trotted out.

I think my personal favourite one is from back in the days of GT3 when someone here put together a pretty fair wish list of all the cars they'd like to see in GT4. I say "pretty fair" because the list was comprehensive, if long - 10,000 cars. The list made its way onto a Brazilian GT fansite as "GTPlanet confirms this is GT4's car list" and then, in the lead up to GT4, it got posted back here as a confirmed GT4 car list around twice a month.

But of course PD couldnt just wait until it was complete and then release it. Instead we get a halffinished car and promise for the rest later. People get hyped and now we get part 2. Never seen this in marketing before?
Nah, this is abc in marketing a product and nothing else. As i see it there are loooots of other cars that they could have done during years of GT5/6 production. But no lets put in a new not even released car right before it gets released and skip all other issues because the fans really need this first. Im convinced Money is the only reason.

It happened to this thread at the beginning, the RedBull events being delayed lead to speculation that it will be an update, and magically:

Speculation/opinion one day = fact the next day

Its understandable though. When you're excited for something and are absolutely buzzing, talking about it, fiction becomes truth somehow.

I personally can't wait to drive the FT-1 and also check the M4 out again since its got an interior. I'm not expecting much else, but I wonder what else the might add/fix. I really hope the fix the replays, never had any problems in GT5, GT6 hasn't been the same story.

Right, the car had literally just been unveiled as we got it in game. They cannot model a magical interior that they have no reference on. It's a relatively important new car, and it's a PREMIUM car. Once they made an interior for it, they put it in - simple logic. If you can give me another example of a premium car that needs an interior, go ahead and give me it.
