GTPlanet is excited to bring you an exclusive first look at the “Course Maker” app for Gran Turismo 6. Since we first learned that GT6 would greatly expand upon GT5‘s course “generator” (which let players generate random tracks within a certain set of defined parameters), it has been one of the most highly anticipated features for the new game.

The GT6 Course Maker breaks from the confines of the PS3 gaming console to take full advantage of today’s large touch screens on tablet devices. It will be released as a free app on both Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play, and should be available worldwide by the end of tomorrow, September 30th.

Tracks created within the apps will then be saved to your PlayStation Network account to be loaded within GT6.

Track designers will have a fairly extensive set of tools available at their disposal, along with a lot of creative freedom to design any type of road of their choosing:

  • Four different locations or geography types will be available, including the familiar “Eiger” location from GT5, the Andalusia region in Spain (around which the Circuit de la Sierra is based), along with the introduction of a new “Death Valley” location.
  • Players will have full control of the shape and layout of the course, including the ability to set road width and the banking of corners.
  • Roadside items such as plants, trees, buildings, signs, tents, and grandstands can be placed around the circuit.

  • Curbing can be placed in custom areas along the edge of the track (though this functionality won’t be available in all of the geographic locations).
  • Once the track has been saved and loaded into GT6, players will be able to test drive their track, or use it in Arcade Mode, Open Lobby online events, and share it with friends via the in-game Community Features.

With the online services for GT6 undergoing scheduled maintenance in the early hours of September 30th and the pending release of these companion apps, the now-infamous Course Maker update seems all but confirmed to arrive for all within the next few hours.

So, it's here. After nearly two years, we at least get A course maker. Whether or not it will live up to everybody's expectations is a different matter, but I can say now that it will be nice to have a course MAKER compared to a course GENERATOR.

What do you all think?

I am quite pleased with the placement of objects... though I wish the actual course creation was in-game... I will take it.

Can't wait to try and recreate Road Atlanta, Road America, Sebring, and 1960's Le Mans and Spa!

You dont know how the course maker will be.
If you want 60fps without frame drops a PS3 power increase would be needed so it can't be done. Software updates can't do impossible miracles.
But you can try to set your resolution down from 1080 to 720p so you might get a little FPS improvement.

No, the course maker looks like it'll be a bit cooler than I thought, but I'll wait and see what can actually be done with it.

I don't think 60fps is a realistic expectation either. I said it would be a dream come true. I already do run the game at 720p...

Ha ha ha did you read the comment "thanks for screwing the one's over who don't own a smart phone sony" then got a reply "it's 2015 who don't own a smart phone". Priceless, that made me chuckle :)
Looks like tablets will be more useful than smartphones for it.

I do not see many tools , my fear is that like gt5 but that's okay

Can see why you feel that way, but it seems like we actually create these tracks rather than having an algorithm create them for us :)
Sorry if I'm wrong but it seems like we'll be able to make almost anything!

>no GPS creator.

Seriously. That's what was gonna make this thing ridiculously amazing.

But let's see how well this works before you all go celebrating PD for delivering 2 years too late.

Do I get to track my drive to work via GPS and then recreate it in the course maker?

And again, sorry if I'm wrong, but I think the GPS companion was going to be released after the creator itself!

Hmmm, looks like it's only on tablets? Unless that one screen where you choose the theme looks like it's in the actual game. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm fine with how it looks, it's all about how it functions to me and the overall control of individual sections parts.

@R1600Turbo I'm gonna guess and say I think we will have to look at the base map contours for big elevations changes etc.
I'm going on the background terrain in the images above, it looks like it has contour lines etc.

Find out tomorrow though... how cool is that
