But it all kinda fits, the music really does fit with gt,he is(once again) a really niche artist,i don't see why the scammer would aim at someone like him with a scam that would take some effort, and gran turismo of all games to pull a scam? Why not Grand Theft Auto?

I do hope he did the due diligence of searching if the offer IS from PD.
In the worst case scenario it is a scam, hopefully PD reads this article and contact the guy,his music is good.
No no no, I don't question the music choice.

Just that the whole thing with being asked to post a video etc is one of the chain scam things, throw in a bit of AI fly fishing it feels off.

I don't think he was targeted but honestly it doesn't feel right with PD MO especially this close to an update and car shilloettes. They typically separate these things.

Occam's razor is all.

Occams Razor is hard to use with Polyphony 😂

How would this scam work though?!

"Hey Derek, we will give you money and a fake contract, so you can come out and let people know your music will be featured in a video game..."

What is the scammer getting out of this ??

Is Kaz going to have to pay the scammer to retract the scam ?!?

The skepticism and scam theory is even weirder than taking this news at face value.
Because trolling? Because of easy targets wanting to believe stuff?

Happy to have my skepticism proved wrong, in fact I hope it is.

Let us not forget that AI isn't motivated by money or emotion...

The point is that this is way different to PD MO and quite honestly isn't massive news on the week they are unveiling cars in to the game, arguably Hyundai would quite like the lime light this week and not a song "that is" to be featured??

Doesn't make sense really.

What's exciting to me is that we'll be talking about GT8 soon I expect, perhaps by the end of this year.
Honestly as a live service game, I'm expecting it's gonna go further to more line up with PS6 which is supply chain rumours more like 2027 (which makes sense with Ps5/pro tooling costs) so a mid ps pro gen announcement mid 2026 (this also means that GTA is gonna be cross gen again).

We will see how this washes out but PD won't be talking about GT8 with any substance for at least a year. As it will roll out as a launch title (speculation) for next gen hardware.

But honestly, back on to the main topic we are either talking about a press release that more music is added to the game? We get another music rally?

That is more news worthy than the cars??? Just odd for PD

This is really interesting news, it's not often we hear anything about PD's music prospects. In fact I don't think I've ever heard soundtrack development news from PD and I've always wondered what their process is like. Obviously their car development methods have been featured several times but choosing music? What do they do, just browse Spotify all day until they find the right vibes? Apparently it was Bandcamp this time, something I've never used.

Anyway, those two songs posted in the article immediately struck me as very GT-like, especially Clear Space which sounds like some sombination of Japanese jazz fusion from GT3 and 4 combined with GTS. Can't quite put my finger on it but it just sounds right and I can imagine it becoming a nostalgic part of the game, just like Isamu Ohira's menu music in GT2-GT4. I appreciated GT5's expansion with a more sophisticated, historically relevant music selection, but GTS really got my attention with a lot of different moods from different artists that I'd never heard of before. Most of those were more song format and less menu music format, but they somehow matched GT's vibe pretty well.

Just odd for PD
The irony of the Gran Turismo community incessantly ragging on PD for not paying attention to fans but not trusting when they actually do community outreach is not lost on me.

…and that’s a good point. Usually we see posts about cars PD have scanned from the owners or a trip to an office show a screen with cars on it. This doesn’t seem too far from what we’ve seen before.
Didn’t someone post a twitter post of Daiki Kasho working on new music for GT?
Edit:

I understand some are concerned about the email and its wording. I have no idea either way, but like I posted, the melodic feels are there.

No one is questioning the need, or quality of the music. It fits and so quite good.

Just me personally questioning the timing and way it's come out, and honestly that money was mentioned in any capacity isn't PD, everything else yes (although the timing on an update week????)

The update will overshadow this news easily. Also the next month’s worth of whinging until the next possible update. Trust, it’ll be “Dereck who?” by the time patch notes are released for the update. :sly:

I've some sponsorship outreach back on my FSAE team, just sending random emails to companies we weren't associated with yet, and it felt pretty awkward to write them. Ultimately I decided to keep them concise because business folks don't have a lot of time to waste with wordy emails. Basically just tell them who we are, why we thought of them, and what we're offering or asking. PD's email sounded better than mine to be fair haha.

While my FSAE was searching for sponsorship and not offering to compensate anybody monetarily, we did like to mention the audience that will be seeing the car. Again, keeping the email concise and letting people know the terms upfront is probably a good way to handle it, especially when you're a big company with a legitimate offer. Finding partners like this shouldn't feel like buying a used car, you shouldn't have to haggle back and forth. PD has established what a music license is worth to them, and that's what they're offering artists. If an artist accepts and establishes communication, that's when papers start to get signed.

Yeah, that would be me. I just took a look at Daiki's Facebook as I usually do and found that. Now they never said what Daiki was up to at Nightbird, but I think it's safe to say it was for his remakes.

Anyway, with Daiki seemingly teaming up with Pharrell and now this, I think we're eating good for GT8's soundtrack.

I think you guys are trying too hard to read into things when really there's nothing to be confirmed or estimated, as far as timing of the game that is.

This was just a random oops moment from this musician and not any plan, timing, nor intended communication, mystery from Sony or PD at all.

Someone at Sony or PD may have asked Derek to make a video but there was no intent to share specifics about timing, I don't even think that they even were counting on much traction from this news.

And even if there was intent, nothing else could be deducted from this ..

In the grand scheme of things, this is peanuts. It's only big in this community, but outside of GTP no one really cares.

On that topic, I've been wishing for ages that PD would get more involved on Spotify with their music and lo and behold I just discovered an "artist" on Spotify called GRAN TURISMO Sound Team. It seems to have various actual menu musics from GT7 split into albums called Best Lap vol 1 and Best Lap vol 2. It seems kind of official although I've never found it in my previous searching. They've also got a Gran Turismo Sound Team Radio which has a bunch of songs I've never heard that sound very GT-ish and GTS-ish.

I suppose this could just be some random person but it could also be PD gathering music in a public playlist? Given the relative backlash against GT7's music I could imagine them wanting more public feedback and that would align with the video from Dereck Higgins.

Edit: I'm hearing some GT, GTS, Sim City, and The Sims on this playlist haha. That's kinda my vibe. Straight up jazz fusion elevator menu music. There's a song by Kaori Kobayashi called Airflow on here which sounds like classic GT funky jazz fusion, although with more horns. Some of these songs seem to have been featured in other games. They even have a Christmas song for the inevitable holiday menu vibe.

Uh, yeah, the albums were released at the end of 2023... It was even an article on GTP here.

I'm still baffled by the fact that the new mixes of Daiki Kasho's songs found on the albums never made it into GT7 itself, btw. Very weird.

He has since posted a YouTube video that he may have been pranked about this. He's not sure and waiting to find out.

Why are there scammers out there ? I hope this thing gets sorted out and get a positive outcome.... Frustrating and give no hope on the goodness of humankind...
This kind of thing always gives me a sick feeling in my stomach, I really feel for the guy and hopefully he either gets clarification if it’s true or doesn’t take it too hard if it does wind up having been some sort of scam.

Not familiar with his work, but after listening to a few of the clips posted, however it turns out for him he’s at least gained a new listener in me and maybe some others in a search for a silver lining

How can we scam the scammer?

I guess i was right to be worried, damn, that's so sad,and it pisses me off why someone would go to such lengths to scam a small artist. This scam took effort.
