o2sk8Stupid kids, that song is a great choice. How can you say it doesn't "fit". Look at these matched up sequences:
Hot shoe, burnin' down the avenue. ::'69 Corvette bombs by::
Model citizen ::Benz CLK Touring car, how much more model citizen is that::
zero discipline ::Ford GT and Nissan R92CP go spinning by::
It's good there are more songs about racing in the game and that's a great one to start with.
thats what i wanted to say in post 92, so thanks JediJedi2016A couple points:
1) I'm not a kid.. I remember when that album came out. On LP.
2) There's more to making a music video about racing than just slapping a race- or car-oriented song on top of it. It has nothing to do with what the song is about, or how it's "timed up" with certain lyrics on certain images. It's about the feel of the song in relation to what you're seeing.. things like timing, pacing, when particular intruments start or stop. The audio and video should blend together into a seamless whole. And I'm sorry to say, but the middle 1/3 of that video (before Roth starts singing), there is simply no energy. This was a video that was edited to an entirely different piece of music.. you cannot simply swap out the song, especially a song with totally different pacing, and expect it to fit. It just doesn't happen that way. They should have completely re-edited the ENTIRE video from scratch for this song, rather than just slapping it onto the existing video. If you watch the Japanese intro (with the intended music), you'll quickly notice a very powerful "build-up" in music and energy, from the end of the "opera" section through when the "GT" logo appears. The feeling the original music created just is NOT there with "Panama".
Omnishmmm....i'm now downloading the japanese intro.
i think i've been pretty subjective, as i've only seen the english video, which is better than the old trailer i have imo.
so now i'll watch this japanese video......and again, comment. lol.
The Japanese intro is a lot better, even though it's the same until about halfway through.Omnishmmm....i'm now downloading the japanese intro.

CAMAROBOY69Its not too bad! Van Halen gives it a nastalgic and real American feel! Decent choice of music IMO. It could have easily been a lot worse.
Im not picky I just want the game.
TheMocoManRIGHT ON DUDE!!! Panama kicks ass and JUST GIMME THE DAMN GAME!!!
re1987what band sings moon over the castle? I would assume it is a japanese band? Anyway, it seems like this intro was made for people living in America. That is why it was chosen. That is probley why none of you like it. You don't live in America and don't respect that kind of music. Just like Americans don't like foriegn musics. Really, I don't know why this thread was even started. Why do people complain about things that don't even matter? I am nearly 100% sure that you can skip the intro. And, do you listen to the intro every time you start the game up anyway?
re1987If you want to be pissed off at something be pissed at the over abundance of Japanese cars and not so much Ferrari and Lambo.
DezCool vid! Wouldn't mind that on the European release. I thought America would appreciate one of their greatest rock bands ever on the soundtack!

IzanagiYo, I love the NTSC intro! The opera really sets the mood and the scene/music combo is really good. The opera makes the opening seem very stately and the imagery is very moving, at least to me. Then, Aerosmith's song is perfect for the clips of the actual racing. It's music that peps you up and makes me want to really drive the wheels off all of those cars showcased in the intro. It seems almost oldschool yet at the same time, very contemporary. I LOVE IT! 👍
