Stupid kids, that song is a great choice. How can you say it doesn't "fit". Look at these matched up sequences:

Hot shoe, burnin' down the avenue. ::'69 Corvette bombs by::
Model citizen ::Benz CLK Touring car, how much more model citizen is that::
zero discipline ::Ford GT and Nissan R92CP go spinning by::

It's good there are more songs about racing in the game and that's a great one to start with.

A couple points:

1) I'm not a kid.. I remember when that album came out. On LP.

2) There's more to making a music video about racing than just slapping a race- or car-oriented song on top of it. It has nothing to do with what the song is about, or how it's "timed up" with certain lyrics on certain images. It's about the feel of the song in relation to what you're seeing.. things like timing, pacing, when particular intruments start or stop. The audio and video should blend together into a seamless whole. And I'm sorry to say, but the middle 1/3 of that video (before Roth starts singing), there is simply no energy. This was a video that was edited to an entirely different piece of music.. you cannot simply swap out the song, especially a song with totally different pacing, and expect it to fit. It just doesn't happen that way. They should have completely re-edited the ENTIRE video from scratch for this song, rather than just slapping it onto the existing video. If you watch the Japanese intro (with the intended music), you'll quickly notice a very powerful "build-up" in music and energy, from the end of the "opera" section through when the "GT" logo appears. The feeling the original music created just is NOT there with "Panama".

It's not bad. It's just that it sucks compared to Moon Over The Castle. I still think the best intro for the GT series was from the American GT2 featuring the Cardigans.

I agree. The new intro just doesn't...work. I can't really describe it. The Japanese one worked, it was special. The music matched perfectly with what you were seeing. The American one just doesn't do that. It doesn't feel right after watching the Japanese one for the last fortnight. I'm sure many americans who see it won't know what the Japanese one is like and be perfectly happy with their version, but knowing what the Japanese had will probably annoy a whole load of American players.
Having said that, I live in the UK, so I'm just hoping that either we get the Japanese video or a better choreographed one.

hmmm....i'm now downloading the japanese intro.

i think i've been pretty subjective, as i've only seen the english video, which is better than the old trailer i have imo.

so now i'll watch this japanese video......and again, comment. lol.

It's not the video, I don't have the video it's just the Music.

The Japanese intro is a lot better, even though it's the same until about halfway through.

Its not too bad! Van Halen gives it a nastalgic and real American feel! Decent choice of music IMO. It could have easily been a lot worse. :)
Im not picky I just want the game. :)

RIGHT ON DUDE!!! Panama kicks ass and JUST GIMME THE DAMN GAME!!!

what band sings moon over the castle? I would assume it is a japanese band? Anyway, it seems like this intro was made for people living in America. That is why it was chosen. That is probley why none of you like it. You don't live in America and don't respect that kind of music. Just like Americans don't like foriegn musics. Really, I don't know why this thread was even started. Why do people complain about things that don't even matter? I am nearly 100% sure that you can skip the intro. And, do you listen to the intro every time you start the game up anyway? If you want to be pissed off at something be pissed at the over abundance of Japanese cars and not so much Ferrari and Lambo.

Nice!

The Moon Over The Castle is actually more for the first minute and a half until the in-game screens come in.

It's not TOO bad of an intro, really. I just wish they took the time to change it a little more to fit the song better. The song is great, it's just that the intro didn't turn out as well organized as the japanese intro, IMO.

American feel ...Van is screaming PANAMA!!! wtf is that? if it was suppose 2 be more american....he should of yeld America!!!! That song is horrid for a gt4 intro look back at all other gt songs and they some how go with the beat and racing footage also it does not have an annoying words PANAMA!!! over and over again

i downloaded the Japanese intro....

was this the japanese gt3 intro as well? because that song sounds REALLY familiar.

the only thing i dont like about it is that the song sounds really fake, like they just created samples or something. i think they should've just orchestrated the entire thing. just get a 50 or 100 piece orchestra and jam out classical style. they could've still used guitars and whatnot....but i dunno.

it's cool though....its not like we waited 3 years for JUST the intro. lol.

Moon over the castle is hardly foreign sounding though, I mean it sounds kinda like something Joe Satriani would make. Also Moon over the castle is the Gran Turismo theme music. Also I don't think anybody is pissed off at something like this, seeing as you'll only watch it once or twice.

Like that hasn't been done about eleventybillion times before, that was old the second time someone brought it up.

Cool vid! Wouldn't mind that on the European release. I thought America would appreciate one of their greatest rock bands ever on the soundtack!

No, must people here dont appreciate anything unless its some crappy no talent rap bs with 4 hundred cuss words a minute.

Awesome song, really fits the game.

Maybe for those of you complaining we could ask Lenny Crapits to come back and sing another song for GT5...

It wasn't bad but I think the singing should have been taken out for the intro, it just didn't fit right. Other than that it was okay but not a patch on the Japanese one.

Although in the Japanese version, the techno coming out right after the intro was nice.

Although I love the rock in this one mostly b/c...well, this is the music I listen to. Although, a AC/DC one with sounded wierd.

So pretty much we are arguing taste here and no one is going to get anywhere. I thought it fit the video great. I mean, the operatic part fits the pre race intro, but when the cars get going you need the rock. It's just how you interpret it.

WTF kind of comment is that?

Read the posts again.. I think you'll find the majority of people complaining about it ARE Americans. Simply because we Americans are the ones getting stuck with this intro. And, again, it has nothing to do with the music itself. The song is fine.. the song is wonderful.. I mean, it's Van Halen, for cryin' out loud! And everyone knows Van Halen rocks.

BUT, this song simply does not belong in this video.

Wow, that really was disappointing. To be honest, I don't care how good or bad the intro is, its about the game play that really matters. Besides, for us who live in the States, do you really give a **** how good or bad the intro is? I don't know about you guys but after waiting for so long with no kind of GT4 demo or even Prologue, I just want to play the damn game.

P.S. Is it just me who thinks this or does it seem like the way the music ends, it just seems unfinished or it was just done up at the last minute to get it out the way?

The intro just doesn't flo with the music now??? At 1:47-2:10 is great, it sounds and looks like most broadcast intro's, then it just doesn't work, just my 2 cents. I've done media work for teams for years and it's hard to get some packages to gel but this is just blah.

its just funny to me how big a deal is made out of the music in the intro. while I agree that I think they should just leave it as it was in the Japanese version, I cant believe how mad some people seem to get at the song thats chosen.

I just dont understand why they feel the need to change the intro music at all. I wonder if its Sony or PD making that call? either way you would think they would do some kind of poll before making a decision to change.

I wonder if theres any owners of the Japanese version that are in an uproar that the US version is going to get such a rocking intro? anythings possible I suppose.

Yo, I love the NTSC intro! The opera really sets the mood and the scene/music combo is really good. The opera makes the opening seem very stately and the imagery is very moving, at least to me. Then, Aerosmith's song is perfect for the clips of the actual racing. It's music that peps you up and makes me want to really drive the wheels off all of those cars showcased in the intro. It seems almost oldschool yet at the same time, very contemporary. I LOVE IT! 👍
