Since everyone seems to be posting their opinion on what appears to be the U.S. intro for GT4, here is my take:
NOTE: I'm not so much focusing on the 'music' but how it can help create a certain feeling during the intro....
Opening sequence:
As the movie starts, you see the Ford GT, which itself is an awesome car, regardless if it's from Ford, and then when the Opera music starts, you suddenly get the sense you are witnessing the start of something that was once beleived to only exist in the realm of your imagination....to finally be able to play GT4...A game almost 4 YEARS in the making!
As the camera starts to pan around the car, showing every possible angle the human eye can comprehend, you start to witness just how much better the graphics are as compared to previous encarnations of the game. Then, as the background starts to morph from one dramatic background to the next...this is when you start to fully understand the great lengths PD/Sony went through in bring this game to life! Just from this short vid, one should be able to clearly see it is a masterpiece that has yet to be fully recognized for what it is.
The Grand Canyon looks almost REAL...almost like you had driven the Ford GT to that very cliff yourself & put it in park, got out & started filming the scenery yourself.
The New Your background is simply stunning! Though I've never been to the East Coast, from what I have seen regarding NY, I'd swear I was there right now in real time!
Then, as the background starts to morph yet again to the garage area in pit lane & you first see the stewarts (?) walking along in a single file line, you get the impression that something BIG is about to happen and yet you have no idea what it is, though you're still sitting on the edge of your seat in total anticipation of what lies ahead!
As the Ford GT starts to slowly exit the garage, you're filled with excitement as one could almost take this harmless image as the games release date soon approaching both here in the US & across the pond and then your blood starts to boil as you start to think back to that very day, either weeks or months ago, when you first laid down your measley $5 or $10 dollar deposit from your local game store to buy the game and immediately realize, all that waiting is about to come to an end.
For a brief moment in time, the focus changes from the Ford GT to the BMW & Skyline as they start down what appears to be Pit Row and then it hits you...This game is going to ROCK! And when the camera focuses its attention back again onto the Ford GT, as it pulls to almost a complete stop and all you see is the rear right wheel, your inner child yells out to you..."I'm here and I'm gonig to have some fun now!"...and then you suddenly realize that this "inner child' is right but yet for some strange unforseen & unspeakable reason, the release date, even though it's just days away for us in the US and another two weeks or so for everyone else, starts to seem like years away...Then, just as the one lone driver starts to lower his visor, you think to yourself..."That should be ME!" LOL!
BAMN! The change to the classic Van Halen tune of Panama kicks in...as does the
'action'...The Ford GT cuts out of Pit Row just ahead of the BMW, Benz & Skyline...and as all 4 cars speed down the straightaway, one after the other. you almost feel engulfed in what you're seeing. Your brain starts to tell you this can't be real, yet you know it is!
The cut scenes with all the amazing cars in the game starts to give your brain a real visualization of just how this game will rule and why it's the epitome of all console race sims to date! You then instantly say to yourself..
"Look at all these great cars that will MINE to drive...at some point during the game of course....
on almost any track I can imagine...hopefully of course!
Anticipation of actually having the game in your hand or in your PS2 thickens, while the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end as if you just saw a ghost. You can't believe the details of such a game can be so damn good and wonder why other games can't get the whole GT genere from off its high & mighty mountain.
The ending!
Nothing to say except that it left me wanting this game more & more with each passing day! So, yes, I LOVED this intro and the feeling it brought in anticipation of next week's U.S. release date!
Regardless if you like the music or not, you can't deny that there is something magical about it...whether it's some form of subliminal message saying this game is going to ROCK, or simply knowing that in a few short days and/or weeks...the long wait will be over and you will have finally found salavation!
(OK! Maybe that is taking it to the extreme! LOL)
Personally I can't think of any other song that would have been a better choice..for either the opening focusing on the Ford GT, or for the rest of the vid! Simply awesome is all I have to really say!
I'm not a writer, journalist or anything like that so don't hate on me for this cheesy attempt at putting 'thought to paper!'.... 👍
