VCRC vintage & low power :: Sunday 3pm GMT / 10am US EST

 too funny

I actually tested them both last night and realized it's the GP one where the left turn (where you would turn right at Indy) is what throws me off.
So I had them confused before!! :dunce:

That is funny. Surtees is actually one of my favourite corners, ironically because it's tricky -- makes it satisfying to get right. So I hate one corner and love another for pretty much the same reason. :)

60+ laps (if we're doing an hour race) of Brands Indy... :|

Oh , I almost forgot , my vote also goes to indy , just because its a shorter track and you could overtake some cars more than once :-)

For every second a person is off the pace at Brands Indy, they're going to get lapped that many times. :nervous:

Sonuva....I thought this thread had gone quiet.......:banghead: Stupid non-alerts.

I vote GP but I haven't got to do a proper race at either of them yet so as long as it's Brands Hatch I'll be happy. 👍

Oh, and I'm in for tomorrow (pretty much always should be).

56 laps should be good, I would think. It's a sub-60 second lap car, but that many laps means small errors can add up easily, and as we all know a small error can mean big time in these low-powered cars. And big errors add up to lots of time (if you go off into the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend, for instance, you'll lose the best part of 20 seconds thanks to the new quicksand PD installed). Plus if we do a pit stop there's that time as well.

I'm sure the car can run in the low 58s in quicker hands, and on low fuel maybe even into the 57s? Not that I can get close to those times, personally. :P

Then there's always the rain factor, if the director so chooses. I optimistically did a test at the GP circuit last night, and full rain added almost 10 seconds to my lap times. (But, I'm a terrible, terrible rain driver.) Rain at the Indy circuit would add several seconds at least, I would think. (Paddock Hill can be a nightmare in the wet!)

I just did about a dozen laps in my lobby and my best was about 1:00.7xx, I didn't feel like there was a whole lot more time to be had out of the car in my hands. I'm not the fastest but usually above average.

In a 20-lap run to test fuel burn, I managed a 59.2xx several times once I got heat in the tyres, but repeatability was an issue at that pace. Even so, I never managed to get Clearways done properly, so I was leaving several tenths on the road there.

Paddock Hill Bend and Clearways are the big ones for gaining/losing time. Druids hairpin and the Graham Hill Bend following it are pretty easy to nail consistently, but the other two... it's easy to lose a whole second, in Paddock especially, by being a bit slow. :/ Go too hard and it'll cost ya twenty, though.

I was basing my estimates on generally being a second plus off the pace of people like @KingKlingeling but maybe at Brands Indy I can manage to be less than a second off? XD Here's hoping, anyway.

Yes, well those are some of the reasons why you can't set the laps by a "best time".

On a track this short with enough straight bits with this particular car, I think people's "best times" won't vary as hugely as they would at a longer track with more twisty bits in a different kind of car.

Anyhow I didn't do under 1 minute, and judging by the times I did get the best lap times 1:01.something I think,... Well, I think attempting to drive the ideal best lines like that every lap would seriously increase my chances of losing 10 seconds in the sand every 3rd lap. Certainly won't be possible to do with cars in front of me, unless I want to risk having to make a pit-with contact concession after dumping someone off Paddock at a bad angle :scared:, or having to let off throttle after going 4 wheels off on the Cooper rumble strip. 👎

Put me down at 50/50 for tomorrow... My presence will depend on how bad the rest of my night at work is.
Sure no problem.
I would say I hope the rest is not bad at all, but given your line of work I imagine it's nearly impossible to have a really good night. :nervous:

It's been pretty good so far, but with freezing rain/snow moving in, I'm really doubt it will remain that way...

Was your testing online or offline? I did notice that I only have to use the brakes once per lap. :P And running no ABS with brakes at 2/2 was quite manageable even with the racing brakes.

I suspect that's why I had the race car feeling.

But also why I'm worried about potential concertina effects in certain spots. :scared:

And I can recall thinking that about not braking... quite a bit in a race there recently...

That's me back there :guilty: mowing the grass in the green Skyline.

Oh, here's the rest from that race if anyone's interested:

I'm going to try & make a rare Sunday appearance later today/ tomorrow as the car track combo appeals greatly. I can't be 100% certain but I shall try.
whoops! forgot Scotland v Ireland rugby today clashes with this (you'd think they'd have checked with Melon beforehand!) so shall have to cancel my very short lived entry. enjoy the racing & caution turn 1:confused:

I just made a few practice laps (96:D)
What I recognized is that using those areas outside the curbs at T2 & T3 can give you a 1.5 second advantage over the normal track ! Are we having brands hatch in the track boundaries thread ? I would suggest a two wheels inside rule at the beginning , like always 👍
simple calculation 1.5 seconds × 60 rounds = a lot of unfair advantage

I just did some test laps at Brands Hatch in this, and I kept crashing, cutting corners (unintentionally), or having to sporradically brake. I think it may be best if I sit this one out.

In your case I would join to earn some track time, 1 hour is long , anything can happen !
I dont like this track much but I join also , just that I'll get used to the track and stay competitive for further events , track time & practice is not replacable
