Wallbanger's "Tons of Fun"(Final Round Underway)

Added in preliminary results for the photo comps. Group D is so close right now. If Johnny sneezes he may loose out to Praiano or sheephead! :scared:

EDIT: Also, in accordance with arrangements made with Raver for his prize from the Fall Roadster Battle, I will be giving a prize for this competition in his stead. As he did not specify what or to whom I will give the bottom overall finishers in each group (not including myself :P) a choice of 50k in NCD cars and/or parts. You'll also get the bonus of being on my friend list when I do my automated Remote Race binges. :D Once final results are in I will PM folks for their selections. Thanks to Raver for his generosity! :D:tup:

I know this wont effect the standings, but i have kept working on my boat. If you would like to test just om me and I'll send you the settings.

If I am in said bottom finishers, give my winnings to shmogt for hosting my car.

Thanks DigitalBaka for getting the scoresheets fixed up!👍👍

Now I just have to find a few people to vote for "Isabella" in the photo poll so I don't miss the final round due to a certain Subaru.:odd::lol:

Oh and unless there are objections I'm pushing the deadlines for testing and the photo polls back 24 hours. I'll get Group D tested and results posted today but won't be able to finish Group A until tomorrow.

Glad you guys seem to like the car! :sly: It does lack some punch and the full load of ballast probably doesn't help out. MrGrado also mentioned the lack of power. In hindsight I might have gone half ballast keeping it 50/50 to get some extra go out of that prancing pony.

I'm pretty proud of my LSD. It may not be perfect or even very good but it is my first shot trying to tune one. Had an ALSD on my SV for the Indy shootout but it was really just barely tweaked stock numbers. I read a lot from some of the other tuners including Praiano, MCHami's thread and nomis' guide as well so credit ot them for excellent reading material. 👍

I was hoping some of the quicker guys here would be able to get some more out of the car but the times are actually not too far from mine. Perhaps that is just the limit of the tune then. Happy with my results though for sure. Tough group and happy to come in right in the middle of the pack. Thanks for the effort!

Given the power and weight of the car I thought the laps times were better than expected. For me, an LSD that I don't have to think about under hard acceleration is perfect. Kicking the back end out with most RWD cars and the DFGT almost never leads to better lap times, especially at a tight course like London. It might be fun it's just not fast for me. I can see it in tracking my ghost, as soon as the back end begins to lose grip and you're correcting for it, the ghost starts to ease away. So the LSD on the Ferrari was perfect for me, allowed me to focus entirely on precision without worrying about when the tail was going to step out.

I would leave the weight in. At least on my part, outright lap times did not figure into my driver's preference, all I was concerned about was how the car handled when I pushed it to the limit, tire wear, and my perception of how close the car came to what I perceive it's potential to be. The Ferrari is one of the few cars I've driven to any extent untuned and I knew it was good. I expected a lot from the Ferrari and it delivered hence the high score.

Thanks DigitalBaka for getting the scoresheets fixed up!👍👍

I don't want to be a wet blanket, I can understand extending the testing but why extend the photo poll? No one has been held back from voting, everyone who wanted to vote has had a chance to cast a ballot. Some guys have had some real life issues in testing and extending it to give them time to complete it makes sense but extending the photo poll does not, to me anyway.

@johnnypenso only reason I included the photo poll was to have all round one categories complete at the same time.

Also adds a short period for the possibility of late voters to break some ties/close races such as dog fight we have going in Group D with one car having 18 votes currently and two more with 17 votes. Yesterday around this time the current leader was in 3rd. They have been bouncing around each other for the last few days. Great fun.:D

Um……hate to say this…but I might miss out on Group B…the coursework from this term is taking hold…unless I can do the testing while round 2 takes place…

At least you got group D done, that's all that matters :sly: :embarrassed:

While your free to test at any time only results submitted before the (now extended) deadline will actually count as they are used to determine who advances to the final round.

In that case…pull me out of group B from the official results. I'll continue to test them so that no one will lose out on some 'feedback', but it needs to wait for around…a week-ish?

I'm back from vacation now. I fixed Group A scoring to take into account Johnnypenso's Driver's Choice. It looks like DB already fixed the formulas for the time attack averages. Group A standings might have changed so check it out.

It looks like there are currently two groups with tie scores for 2nd place. What is the tie breaker rule Desperado?

Looking forward to the Round 1 final standings. Go Team Clueless! :dopey:

Welcome back. This is the first time I checked the score sheet. Very close battles 👍

And wow, yah, go team Clueless :D :dopey:

I'm glad to hear the now-better news!

I have had other things eat in to my available testing time on the weekend, and am extremely grateful for the extension, since I honestly believed I had to submit tomorrow (must be ingrained from the WRS). I'm having much more difficulty lapping late these days :grumpy:, and am not proud of the lap times.

I've mostly completed Monza testing, though my notes aren't quite up to date yet.

Builds:

All builds were completed successfully, and run in.

It became apparent that nomis and Tris had not performed engine restoration; both their cars are down ~60hp on mine. Nomis had also apparently not performed chassis restoration, and did not wish me to proceed with testing mine, since there could be large differences in handling; I have his from share.
EDIT: Tris had just missed the oil change.

I don't particularly like breaking my usual testing methodology, as I happen to think it's important to be able to recreate a tune (online, anyone?), but felt it would be unfair of me not to be flexible given the short time frame (given that I don't make the rules).

I may include build pics here later.

In general, I'm unused to dealing with approximately 2 metric tons of fun, and whacking great teams of muscular horses, on Sport Softs; I tend to run much lighter cars on street tires. Braking zones, and grip reduction real caught me ought rather more often than I would like to admit. I've become very biased towards a front-biased brake setup (I don't run FFs much, outside the WRS); I used to try it the other way far more frequently than I do now. It seems to now get me into trouble when I try optimistically short braking zones.

Motor City Hami Maserati Gran Turismo:
Lovely feel, did what was asked, but was able to answer rather more questions than I was skilled enough to put to it, I feel. Rear brake bias/LSD got me in trouble a few times, but I had a healthy respect for this car before this tune, and it only raised my opinion of what it is capable of. The LSD in this is just nifty; it leaves it so well set up at Monza combined with the stealth downforce that you get caught up in finding the limits with the throttle steering, and the rears suffer. I just started learning to be careful to not overheat the rears braking, or leave a little coast. Good at London, but in the short stint, I was struggling with gear selection a bit. Red-flagged a 55.245, so felt I could have done better by it there. Since switching to MT, I've developed one more bad habit - trying to manage understeer with gear selection. Not smooth.

ACSR4321 Murcielago SV:
The car is a beast. Plenty of grip, and it's not lacking in aero, whHadich feeGls a bit rorty. Love the front brake bias, jibes well with my preferences.
Tire were reasonable and relatively even; slightly rear biased. This car grows on me each time I run it, when it seemed like an unwieldy understeering tank the first time I climbed in, which put me off using it. This tune I found particularly agreeable, given the weight.
Around London, easy to go fast again. Couldn't quite catch the GT-R here, but I think it could be done - much easier time of Sector 2 (the kink and the sweeper) for me.
Fun.

I've known about this monstrous tank for some time, but rarely used it other than for giggles. It's just too damn big, but not so much in this company; fortunately, power is not really a problem (and we're running about a hundred shy of the maximum available). Haven't asked it to turn at London yet, but seemed to do well so far given my memory of the car. Little bit om nom nom with the rubber, but this Beluga Whale* is really carrying a load. However, the tire wear wasn't badly asymmetric. Apart from the amount of junk in the trunk (including the old-school longboard on the rack, carbon fibre or not), I felt pretty secure in this after some time with it. Wide 5-speed very useful in London; stable and accurate there, too.

Tris SL65 R230 '04
Enjoyable. Seemed bit sharper (probably partly the lack of scaffolding on the back - but doesn't seem to need it, whereas the full power tune clearly does). Might have been partly acclimation settting in along with the tune and lower power, but I had less trouble getting going with this. Very settled around London; long 5-speed and broad power band an advantage here.

How do I make it stop? No, really. It's like the best practical joke in the world: acquire ridiculously exclusive and expensive hypercar, get in, wind it up, corner coming.... ZOMGWTFBBQ! I don't blame the tune, since it lies mostly with the ridiculous approach speeds and the laws of physics; I'm not actually a hater, and the brakes only seem weak, but it's an awfully good illusion. Not really my thing, though. More in it, obviously, but dominating yet more at Monza seemed like a poor use of time. I failed at subtle usage of it so far. You know, around London, it doesn't seem all that bad, considering. Apart from the usual massive understeer. Probably could have stood to use a bit of the old J-turning. Needed more time for any consistency.

krenkme GT-R V-Spec '09
I seem to have an issue with touchy brakes in whatever modern GT-R I try; in any case, the damn thing is fast, and one can hardly argue with the bang per buck, regardless of feelings about refinement. Tune felt very sensitive at Monza; I expect it was an effort to conquer London. Soon see....
.... well, it's certainly lively. Bit nervous over curbs, which is probably a tradeoff with the lack of understeer, and it certainly motors around here. At least I wasn't worried about the usual 4WD stop-point-squirt understeer.

*My title only. It is obviously not actually a Beluga Whale, so much as a whale that likes (or at least carries) a lot of fish roe for some reason.

I'm conflicted over my criteria and driver's choice selection, since I felt all the tunes had a lot to offer; sometimes I might have over-judged the car, but it is what it is.

Thanks for the feedback, I think you were braking too late into the corners which would have caused the drifting.

I guess the term "drift" was a poor choice of words due to trying to type everything out too quickly. My only problem with the car was in the first and last corners of Monza, where the car just did not want to stay on line while under throttle, and I'd end up either having to back off towards the end of the turns or go sand surfing. As most cars can handle full throttle through those turns once you get past the apex, I had to mention it as my only major complaint on the tune.

Ties in the overall scores are determined by weight with the heavier car getting the advantage.

Must say that while I expected there might be a tie or two, I wasn't expecting the overall competition to be this close and intense. Great job everyone.

Tuners your all winners regardless of who makes the final round.:gtpflag:

Test drivers you've really stepped it up providing the tuners with your best.

I'll should have my Group D results posted before I go to work tonight and will get right into testing Group A first thing after work. Sorry for the delays on my part.

You could throw a napkin over the first 4 cars in Group A, way to engineer a tight contest, Sir 👍

+1 Thanks to everyone that has and is going to test, particularly the folks who enjoyed my car :sly:

Added results of my Group D testing here.

Will finish posting mini reviews for praiano and sheephead99 in a bit.

Also need MrGrado to give his Drivers Choice rankings for all groups.👍👍

Hooray, I am not last! :D

My car had no point, I kludged it :sly: it's all good!

All the good things in life have no real point and do more harm than good in most cases. (Crisps/chips, McDonalds, Chocolate, driving quickly, video games, M5 Strumdrachen etc.)

Depending on how the Drivers Choice comes out you could be in the final round with your pointless car.

Yes your currently showing as in 4th but your only 1 point behind the 2nd and 3rd place cars.

All you need is to get into a tie for second and your off to the finals because of the weight.👍👍

Probably be the only time in my life I can safely tell a girl that yes your fat and that's good!:lol:

I do hope so! I know I have lost the photo poll completely though, probably last there...
