I don't exactly know what happened, but at about minute 7 or so into the race I was disconnected by playstation network...never had that happen before, but it let me sign right back in. Went into race lobby again, but would only let in to spectate...so I did that and then a minute or so later the game kicked me out of the session! Oh well, I guess I was not in the race long enough to get credit for last place...??? Congrats to the Duk, Napalm, and Rich for the podiums!
See you Monday...

It happened the same to me yesterday while playing another game....at some point I received a message like “You’ve been disconnected from the PlayStation newtork....” or something like that and I was kicked out of the online session....
Sorry Skip! After practice, qualify, it’s so bad.....

Ok cool...at least I am not alone! Sorry you had that happen to you...the network must be having issues right now. Hope it will be squared away by Monday!
Another weird thing...just before that happened, I was trailing Sick and 3 times in a lap his car appeared in front of me as a ghost...each time I hit the brakes, but his car vanished. Strange glitch!

Was good race, but I pressed a screen went pause screen, so went right off track.:yuck: By time got that sorted, everyone had gone, so was fairly lonely race.

What happened too Alex?

Race report:

Very good and needed practice and decent qualifying. Set a good time on my second lap and then @Friday_GTRP was steadily improving his times and getting closer.

He then had some sort of problem at the start and then I built a bit of gap and tried to maintain it. He then recovered back to second towards the end of the race and something happened as he dropped into fourth.

Congrats to @richroo and @Napalm_LT for an excellent result and a very good pace. Also to @Sick Cylinder, who was driving rather fast when I caught him on the last laps.

Had a bit of a moment with @John Wells, where on one of the most technical corners he tried to let me pass but it was a bit unclear where he was leaving the gap so I had to cut across the grass to avoid a crash. In case of doubt, do the corner and let us pass on the next straight. The difference in speed is not that much and overtaking on a corner is always tricky.

Next week’s lap at 1:37.362

What a race for me ,after first few corners i found myself up behind @Napalm_LT .tried to keep up but made a couple of small mistakes that dropped me back ,with @Friday GTRP catching fast.
Had a moment that let him pass so was doing my best to keep up but was to fast for me.
Had a spin not long after and see @Antares87 closing in , just managed to get going again as he caught up (hope i didn't impede you) .
Couple of laps to go and to my surprise Friday had gone off giving me 3rd but still 1 lap to go , I made a small mistake so I was pooping myself all the way to the finish.

@IBZ6L20VT : “decent” qualify??!!??!!
Your time was insane!!!!!! I really don’t know how you could possibly do a 1.54.4!!!!!!! I made a 55.7 in free practice and thought the best I could improve with a perfect lap was an additional half a second. Don’t know where you “found” that additional second!!!

@richroo : it’s cool. I slowed down in the corner because I was not sure if you saw me and didn’t want to cause a crash. Then I tried to put pressure on you but actually ended up in me spinning out -_-

“decent” qualify??!!??!!
Your time was insane!!!!!!

I lost 0.250/0.300 on the first corner. Then, tire temperatures rose and despite being consistently faster on the first corner I wasn’t able to match my best lap times for the rest of the lap.

I was much happier with my pace in practice. That’s why I said I had a very good practice but just a decent qualifying. Track was much faster in qualifying.

The videos I post are a good example on how I do it :) I have no special abilities. I’m sure almost anyone can match my times with practice.

@IBZ6L20VT : first of all, thanks very much for your videos, they really help, especially beginners like me, to improve and thus have fun with you.
In qualify, after the first few laps, where the car was fast, I struggled a lot to get decent times. During the race it happened the same, and after a few laps it was really hard to get times even close the qualify one. For a couple o laps the car was slipping and spinning a lot, and I almost lost it in each hairpin.
Any idea of why it happened? Was the same for the other ones?

Thanks mate. I’m glad people find them useful.

Probably what happened is tires going over 100C. IIRC the Ginetta GT4 has soft slicks as standard. These tires have an ideal work temperature of circa 85C. Yesterday’s race was set in late July, so it was impossible to have the temperatures right. Anything below 95C was fine. Went above that and you were in trouble.

As you can see on my videos for this car, I always have the tire temperatures on the steering wheel’s Motec display. I monitor them every now and then and ease for a few corners if temperatures are over the ideal range.

Thanks for your advices mate.

I was driving quite hard to stay close to @richroo so I guess the tires got overheated for this reason.

I saw the motec from your videos, the issue for me is that the FOV is only 38 degrees, so it’s impossible to see it.
What’s your screen size and distance? I’ve a 42” at about 1,5meters from my eyes

How can you drive with 38 FOV. Calculator shows +- the same FOW (37" TV and about 1,5 m distance), tried once but couldnt drive, because view point is almost at the windscreen. I run default 70.
I started running at full 120 in these 2 leagues which allows me to see rear view mirrors much better. Took getting used to it, but my mediocre lap times weren't affected. Does allow me to see you front runners better as you rush up to lap me...

Next time will let you by on next straight IB.👍 I've noticed, tyre smoke, whilst exiting some the corners in the Ginetta GT4. What causing it, how can I make it stop?
John, it happens on every car and track with me right now...goes along with the louder tire squealing. It means too hard on braking and too hard of a corner turn in. I had huge smoke billows with the mustang as I tried to take it going into corners...

I think it is a bug. I see smoke in the mirror almost at every corner, but others dont see it. You can check replay from the car behind you - there no smoke at all, unless you overdrive a lot.

I can’t recall accurately now, but I think that I have a FOV value around 60? I sit 1.2m away from a 50” TV. As said previously on this thread, use an online FOV calculator. It’ll give you the best perception of speed and relative position to the elements on track.

I do however move and change the angle of the ‘virtual’ seat until I find a position where it feels natural (more or less the wheel in real life is aligned with the one in game). Once you move the seat, the game stores your settings automatically per car.

@John Wells the tire smoke you can only see is a known bug when the tire is slightly overloaded.

Well shoot...and I thought it was a great teaching tool (the tire smoke) for us slower drivers to keep from overdriving!!! Wait, actually maybe it still IS a great learning tool!!:gtpflag:👍

Hi guys I'll probably test the online stability of my system combined with pC2 tonight.
I was planning on setting up vintage rooms and fill with ai drivers 10-20min races. If people are willing to join give me a heads up either in here or via a pm

I hope you get your system sorted. It would be nice to race with you again.

@Skip7950 you will get points.

The smoke is slightly distracting - I sometimes see it in the rear view mirror, but it never looks realistic. Hopefully SMS can fix the bug - tyre smoke is not normally produced by racing cars etc. perhaps at the start of races.

I will be attending the above show on Saturday 17th February with Mook. We will start at 10 am in the Historic Motorsport International Show before moving next door to the London Classic Car Show and the Grand Avenue (performance arena where cars are demonstrated). I'll be wearing a Sick Cylinder tee shirt so if you are a member of GT Planet please come and talk cars!

If anyone is attending the shows and wants to meet up, send me a message via GT Planet. If it is as good as last year it should be a brilliant day out. Last year Jacky Ickx was honoured - this year it will be Nigel Mansell who gets the star treatment and will be reunited with the cars from his career.

@Sick Cylinder yeah mate I really hope this too I was getting a bit fed up so I quite for a while. Today I feel like picking up the game again.

Would you be as kind to invite me into the conversation for the PS-messages again. I'd like to get a few personal things of my chest I'd rather not have on the forum.

It's about me nothing game or roomrelated ;)
