sounds like a cool track, hopefully i'll be able to put in a few hours this week, i'm busy though, and race cars dont suit my driving style, but we'll see

cya later.

Wheeee tie to post some splits that will disgrace my division! Just like last time, I can't do anything right on this track, and i dont have very fond memories of trying to gold S-1 with this car either.

L1:
T1: 0'41.009
T2: 1'10.734

L2:
T1: 0'32.931
T2: 1'02.162

This is with difficulty 8, AI on SS as well as me.

I completely suck at the first corner and the last 2 corners, as well as the whole track :)

Nice Alpine! lol "Suck at the first corner...the whole track..." lol

I'm going to FINALLY get back into the WRS this week. The last two weeks, while I did make a few runs, I never quite got around to anything decent nor did I post any times or even compete. This week will be different!

That is...once I get the Gathers Civic. :dopey:

Just got my DFP and about 2 seconds slower a lap right now, but I've got a week to get used to the wheel.

I really like this combo, I see myself vying for first (in D3 that is).

Kolyana
Oh I *AM* playing ... come play with me. I have a score to settle from when you beat me the last time :P
You know what? That's not out of the question... I don't work tomorrow, or on thursday either... send me a pm... :)

Umm, Just did two races...This car can be pushed alot more

Lap 2

T1 33.xxx
T2 1:02.xxx

Sorry that's all I can remember

I think my Lap 1 T2 may of been 1:11.xxx

First laps turned for the week...

L1:
T1: 41.613
T2: 1'11.454

L2:
T1: 33.049
T2: 1'03.269

I even found a near perfect AI strategy on the first go - every AI car used for drafting and easily passed under brakes.

30 mins in, and i already hate the track!

I hate the car! and the track!

Could any car have had a worse colour scheme? It's repugnant! I much prefer the Blue and Yellow Spoon colours....

vtec_guy
wooooo! this is a great car for me, take a guess why :-P

This is the week for me and VEXD, not necessarily winning wise but its an awesome car.

You have a obscure definition of awesome.

Hopefully I'll remember to submit my times this week ...

Ok got some real times down....Probably at least 2 seconds in all of these

Lap 1
T1: 40.518
T2: 1:11.188

Lap 2
T1: 32.914
T2: 1:02.902

------

I WILL get that last T2 under 1:00...or I'll cry...

My new strategy is to play different CDs while I'm playing and see which one makes me to go the faster. I started with The Clash's London Calling, and went crap, so my advice is don't listen to The Clash! I've since moved onto Slippery When Wet, which has made me cut 5 seconds off my time! I'm hoping tomorrows In Utero session will cut that down even more!

I don't see how well that works... What AI difficulty setting and what tires do you have them on? I couldn't find a good setup to run agains them with... No matter what they're bunched up when I want to pass them(in the beginning), and there's no room to draft them one at a time. Well, I tried super soft tires and +10 difficulty, they stayed ahead a bit longer like that. I'll have to try out some more of those and other settings argh.

The AI really pisses me off though, there's NO such thing as sharing the road with them. They'll take the racing line every time, even if you're already right there. F that ****. That makes me mad.

And when I turned the difficulty all the way down, and put the tires on super hard for them, they still went about the same speed into some of the turns. I think I might end up using that setup though to get around them early(if I can avoid all their crappy line stealing) and just concentrate on the rest.

Also, were you guys able to finish it out on super soft tires? Originally when I started out I was using SS in the front and S in the rear, but I wore out the fronts too soon. So I've been using Softs all around. We'll see... It's only tuesday, well actually, wednesday now...

What do you guys have to say?

Oh yeah, running 220 gearing as well, and staying out of second for the whole track actually. Might try squeezing in 210 gearing, but I'll probably bounce off the limiter on the straight, and probably will eventually get it down to where I don't slow down as much in third anymore anyway. 220 seems about right.

Bon jovi for speed eh?

tsk tsk

Right, i went thru every eventuality with the AI and couldnt find a setup that kept them out of my way.

I tried slow, they were too slow, i tried fast, they were too slow, i tried everything in between, and i mean everything, and i couldnt find a setup that kept them ahead of me when i needed them there and out of my way when the corners came along.....

bah! :grumpy:

I was hopin hotboi had some answers, but he's pissed off with his wheel by the sounds of it.

It could be something to do with workin nights.
I know the feeling.

Yo Hot, there's a thread on here that describes what you should do with your pedals, if you search for "pedal" then you should find it.

You have to carefully remove the bottom cover of the pedals, there are 9 screws, then take each pedal, clean it, add tape on the surfaces that rub, and make sure the potentiometers havent fallen off, then put the springs back in place and reassemble it. Sounds tricky, but i managed it.... and im thick.

pm me if you want.

rightio, im off.

Good luck with this week, im not into it at all..... shame, cos its my kinda car.

:grumpy:👍

Id better add.

Im using 230 top speed, turn your tyre wear off.... then tyres arent an issue, and let me know what the blummin ai setting should be!

Im using 230 top speed

220 seems about right

I'm using 210, it hits the limiter about 3 meters before the braking point down the straight. But it seems to be the right gearing for the rest of the track. Although the difference between 210 and 220, 220 and 230, is probably negligible anyway.

Yeah I've tried a few different AI settings and all of them result in difficulty overtaking, no matter what setting I provide there is a problem somewhere on the track?!? I'm scratching my head at the moment?!? How some of you get to T1 in the 40's with all those selfish/crazy/race-line-hogging/bunched-up AI cars around is a mystery, I'm losing patience with this one already.

I want some clarification of a few things before I have another stab:

1) Could it be clarified that there is to be no AI contact?
2) In the rules it says "Any" for tyre wear, I'm guessing this inlcudes none?
3) We are asked to save our "ghost" replay, mine doesn't give me that option, I can only save the regular replay?

So far the best AI luck I've had was with it on +10 and RSS tyres, I then encounter the first car (usually a lancer Evo) at the corner before T1 and I can get to T1 in 0'41.xxx, but then from the next corner it's welcome to Dodgeville, population me!!!!!!

Frustration central here...

If you cant hit the limiter well before the end of the straight on 210 gearing, then you arent exiting the corner onto the straight fast enough.

Im hitting it on 220 gearing when i slipstream a car, and all the time wayyyyyy up the straight on 210.

Go faster!!

For those having trouble with the AI, this is a solution that has worked well for me: AI @ 10, RSS. And a quick run-down on passing strategy . . .

Car 1: Enter turn 2 with a slight lift. The Lancer always pushes on entry here, giving you the inside pass.

Car 2: Draft the Xsara and/or Impreza Rally down the next straight. Set yourself up as far outside as possible, and stay straight under braking. If you turn-in to the apex while braking, you will meet bumpers with the Xsara. A proper exit has given you a tidy outside pass, leaving you on the bumper of the Impreza.

Car 3: As you draft the Impreza, set yourself up for a quick outside pass as he follows the inside of the sweeper. There's enough room without clipping tires in the grass and losing speed.

Car 4: Take a slightly late apex into the final hairpin. If you take a proper inside line, you'll rub the 205 Rally. He will pull out in front on the straight, but don't draft too closely or you'll brake right into him for turn 1. So, drop out of the draft enough to let him gain some distance and set up for turn 1. Take a slightly later apex if you need to avoid the 205 so you can pass on the outside.

Car 5: Haven't passed him yet. :scared:

You must have a bigger AI then, I've passed all the cars at about the first T1. Although I pride myself on oddball decisions. Proto motors anyone? I might try a 350 Gearing...With Superhards....

205 rally.....

205?

eh?

Never saw one.

I got a ford escort, bmw, subaru, citroen, and a lancer, though not in that order.

And they all got in my way.

And i had passed all of them before lap two, except the car in first place, which i chased for the entire of the second lap, and never caught!

This was with the AI on +10.

If i change it to 9, theyre too slow straight away!!!

ba ba ba ba bahhhh..... im hating it.

Bloody justin timberlake.

Help Z. help....

Seems the lineup will change each time you begin setting up the race, because I have had your lineup of cars and had the same results as well. The Escort is car #5 in my lineup most times. I will probably not catch him.

Thanks heaps for the passing strategy Z. I've had a crack using it and got some preliminary splits:

Lap #1
T1: 0'41.713
T2: 1'12.004

Lap #2
T1: 0'33.146
T2: 1'03.412

Nothing beautiful, but I think the method you suggest is the way to go, provided I was moving fairly swiftly the overtaking points were easier than any other method I've attempted. Might give this one a rest for a while.

Well I eluded to finding a trick with the AI, there have been lots of suggestions here and most are very close to what I found.

I have set AI on +10 with Super-hard tires. This makes them not be able to corner as well, therefore they're slow and they swing wide. Yet they still have enough power to keep up with you on the straights. This means you can draft them BIG TIME.

With AI +10 and RSH, I start to catch the Escort Rally on the back straight before the tight hairpin. Under braking I get very close to him, but not past him. I let him tow me down the long long front straight. I pull out at the last minute to make the pass, the Escort brakes far earlier than I need to, and can't keep up the corner speed.

I suppose that with these settings, some of the ultra-fast drivers will be drafting the Escort down the back straight. That may be advantageous as well. Just my two cents.

Also, to whoever said that gears at 210 bounces off the limiter 3 feet before the braking zone, one or both of these is happening:

1. You're braking WAY too early.
2. Not carrying enough speed down the straight due to your exit from the hairpin.

Gears at 220 seems to be the way to go. Can anyone prove this wrong?

Also, the cars that I see are these, in order from slowest to fastest:

Lancer Evo VI Rally (how is this the slowest??!!)
Citroen Xsara
Subaru Impreza WRC ('02 or '03)
Subaru Impreza WRC (The old 2-door)
Ford Escort WRC

This has been pretty consistent, haven't seen a 206 yet.

I ran this last night testing different AI set ups and found the best for me was to set the AI at -5 and managed to get by all the AI clean well before T1 most of the time ... nice combo 👍
Little braking required just find good lines on the outside of the AI

Best T1 in race so far is 40.7 .... will definitely run this again tonight

Laters

edit: I dont see anything in the rules regarding AI contact?? I take it that the race must be 100% clean! ..... thats the way I will be racing it anyway unless I get a nod to clip AI as I have seen T1 of 40.0 with 1 touch on the 1st placed car at the chicane before T1
I await response
Cheers
Ron.

Oh yeah I noticed the AI cars change with the AI difficulty setting, -10 you get old Datsuns and some other old cars and + 10 you get modern race or rally cars,
even -5 and + 5 have different cars again 👍

some nice strategies to be found :)

most enjoyable race I have tried in months
Thanks!

Hey there guys, I also tried this one out last night, and I still like Honda's haha, this thing handles so sweet I think ... just now the AI to get out of the way ...

I tried AI + 10 and AI -10, but always run into one of them ... but I think I will try tAI + 10 on RSH tyres and see what happens

@Mr. P , Yes I also did not see anything about AI contact, but I think as every week is always no AI contact, it should be the same, and like vexd said, make sure you put your tyres on "no wear" in options ...

For me AI +10 seems to be the best, as I passed 2 cars and then there was sort of a gap between me and the front runners, and then slip-streamed them as well, never caught the 1st placed guy though

This is the same setup I use. You have to back off on 2 corners to avoid hitting the AI but you gain more time down the straights.

Leaderboard Updated :)

Umm Just so you are aware for next time. I think I'm still in Division 3 mate.(Well I'm still on the list as Div 3) As I could not pull together a replay. Although, no one has told me anything, so you never know.

I like the way you have done the leaderboard though, it looks tops 👍

doesn´t really matter if its 210, 220 or 230 the gears... i´m more concerned with the RPM window to shift gears... what you guys think its best?
(last week, RPM window prove to be a major factor on the times...)
