I echo your sentiment on this week's Gr.1 race. I ran the Peugeot 908 with a maxed qualifying setup and regretted it. Whenever I was beside the AI, they'd out brake me into a corner, only to get in front and brake check me. Even the Group Cs were doing it. A bunch of cars ran out of fuel and became rolling hazards too.

Also, are you doing all your races with ABS off?
Only with the cars that don't have it in real life, otherwise I use weak ABS.

2 races back to back and finally i get CRB at Suzuka both times

TL : DR: managed a 3rd place on my first attempt at Gr.1 Road Atlanta (hard difficulty).

I had long put off running the Gr.1 Road Atlanta race. Didn't even want to consider running a 950pp car there for half an hour or so. Well, needs must and all that. Bought the Hyundai N VGT Gr.1, slapped on the latest @praiano63 tune. Running 1:08 in testing.

Come the race, quickly came apparent that this car, although kind to its tyres, likes to guzzle gas. Necessitating FM6, and what became a 3 stopper, 7 laps each for the first two stints.

I spun and lost 6 seconds on my second lap. Kept going, for the sake of 'research'. Was able to consistently run 1:10s. Got a 1 sec penalty for pit lane infringement on my second stop.

Came out of the pits after my last pit stop in 5th place. Passed Gallo. Then a car in front of me pitted. Didn't see who it was at first, until he came out behind me... Solis, the owner of the fastest lap. Oh heck. Managed to keep him behind me for the last two laps, for a slightly anxious 3rd place. Job done. My fastest lap was in the mid 1:09s.

This may become a new favourite race for me. It's relentless. I will look to run a better strategy next time.

I agree! I enjoyed it throughout my first and only attempt so far, 20-odd laps watching my fuel and the track limits. Even when the writing was on the wall that i would have to make an unexpected 2nd pitstop and I knew i was on a hiding to nothing, the thrill of the circuit and vehicle combo kept the adrenaline pumping.

Race 1 at Broad Bean Raceway was a cakewalk of course, even in the stock spec 356 ( 363 PP ) I used. If we had a Midget I'd try this. Not saying though I didn't have fun !

The similar goes for the second event at Autopolis. I de-tuned the Civic to roughly match the PP suggestion and it still was too fast here. Took the credits and moved on.

I had tried the Lancer-Meeting two weeks ago with my race trim Evo X ( 599 PP ) and found this to be a real challenge. So I basically knew, starting with a stock Evo V was pretty much pointless. I did anyway ... watching the competition ahead ... from a steadily increasing distance. Lacking patience I instantly bought everything available to make the car faster, ended up with another racing machine ( 675 PP ) and demolished the field. What can I say : No regrets on my side but big time fun !

Like some others here I was surprised ( and a bit shocked ) that the Roadster TC is eligible for the Special event. But everything went fine with the standard version I had bought. What I did was attach some aero parts, wide wheels, all removable power parts and SS tires for a final 550 PP ... which was good enough for the win. And maybe the sweet spot for a great race. Got in the lead at the end of lap 3 and brought it home. On a sidenote this car is a dream to drive, this thing for sure knows the way around Suzuka.

I always need some time to get into my flow with super fast cars and I needed some additional time at MRRA to calm down from many many stupid AI moves, but after a couple of re-starts the race wasn't that hard anymore.
Needed three stops with the LM55 VGT ( 935 PP ) changing tires once halfway through the race. FM5 for the biggest part, RM compound, 1.07 - 1.08 laps without traffic ... and without pit lane penalties.

Race of the week ? : Evos at Kyoto imo !

Done the Gr.1 race with the Redbull X2019 Anniversary, on FM6 with RH, needed 3 stops to refuel to the max, last stint ended with some fuel but not that much. Kept same RH tyres all along.

Best laps in the 1:08s (in normal difficulty), ended 2nd 14s behind Wong.

I'd need to find a car that I can drive as fast (or a bit faster) but who does 7 laps per stint instead of 6ish, to shorten the last pit stop to stand a chance.

I had no problem with the Toyota GR010 hybrid. RH tires and FM 6 i made it on only two stops with fuel only.

Played around with the Miata race today. Once with my TC on RS which was too easy. It was over a third into lap 2. Then bought my umpteenth Miata, slapped on my livery from my real track car Miata (down to the license plate lol). Brought the hp to 185 and suspension mods. First tried it on SS. Couldn't really keep up so went RS and took the lead by the third lap.

Another week without Eiger? Ok, I can deal with that.
Starting with 30 minutes at Road Atlanta, I picked the Toyota GR010 and started at FM6 but quickly going to full speed with FM1 just to get some better positioning in the field. I switched back down to FM6 after the 1st pitstop and just cruised to a victory in the dark.🚫

Roadsters @ Suzuka
Easy race that I didn't have to use my engine swap car, just RS tyres and bolt on improvements.🔰

Sunday Drive @ BB.
Thought about finding a really OP car to finish out the week and then thought better to just take one of my classics out for a drive. 🔰

There's my week so far, saving my tickets to redeem them at end of month.

Got the Evo and Gr.1 races done last night.

For the Evo race I used my XIII MR, tuned to 650pp with 414hp and RS tyres. Absolutely destroyed the competition. Won by over 4s in the end, comfortably taking the lead shortly into the final lap.

I decided to use the Peugeot 908 for the Gr.1 race, with difficulty set to Easy. After 10 laps I'd passed everyone and was starting to lap the back markers, then missed the pit entry completely! I decided to restart on Normal and this time I would get the pit entry right! The race was MUCH harder, and when I went to pit at the end of lap 10 I was in 6th, 14s behind 1st. I managed a 2-stop but made a load of mistakes in my 3rd stint, including taking on too much fuel, and ended up finishing in 3rd with about 9s between me and the leader. I may try this one again and see if I can do a little better.

Got a 10k from 3* for daily workout and a Lexus LF LC VGT for the 6* (which I sold, I don't need three of them...)

The Gr.1 race at RA is doing my head in - I'm also using the Peuguet 908 but I'm struggling to keep the thing on the track - the last three attempts have been wrecked by the AI nerfing me at Turn 1 or Turn 6. I have no idea how people are doing this as a two-stopper either. I was trying it on Hard difficulty but had to switch to Normal, but it is still challenging.

Went back to Gr.1 event, with Mazda LM55 as many seem to enjoy it. Went off track four times in first lap.

Went back with the Red Bull X2019, with RM this time to try gain a bit but it did not changed a lot. Got 6s penalty for passing under yellow flag  and a penalty for going of track at some point.

Ended up going through finish line with 1s left and in first place so I did one more lap for nothing. Could have managed fuel better, but it's done. Managed to get back to Wong because he was slowed down by some traffic.

LM55 Gr.1 makes the Gr.1 race a surprisingly easy jaunt. Stock car, RS, 2 stopper (every 10 mins, requires a little fuel management) and I finished with a 35 second lead.
Helped a bit by the fact half the AI seem to forget to pit though, they hold up all the traffic as they trundle around out of fuel.

Trying out a different post format. :)

Race 1: Sunday Cup - BB Raceway
Car: Toyota Corolla Levin 1600GT APEX (AE86) ‘83

Race 2: Japanese FF Challenge 450 - Autopolis
Car: Honda Civic Type R (EK) ‘98

IMG_0346.jpeg

Nothing noteworthy to say about these two races. Both cars were stock. Easy wins.

Race 3: Evolution Meeting - Kyoto
Car: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR ‘04

IMG_0347.jpeg

Took the newly added Lancer Evo VIII and upgraded it to 600 PP on SM tires. Apparently I hit the sweet spot to make this a balanced race, because it wasn’t until the long sweeping right on the final lap that I caught up and overtook the last two AI opponents and won.

Race 4: Roadster (NA) One Make - Suzuka
Car: Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA) ‘89

IMG_0348.jpeg

Instead of using the Roadster TC, I decided to try taking the regular MX-5 and upgrading it to similar specs as the TC. On SH tires, it was quite slidy. Unfortunately, this would cause me to go off the track at the essess on the final lap, costing me 1st. The gray MX-5 was also oddly quicker than the other opponents.

Have yet to do complete the final race, but will try to later today.

Running the weekly challenges again to get all CRB and didn't on the Road Atlanta race, so I had a bit of fun with the Sunday Cup @ BB. I chose the oldest car i had in my garage and it was totally stock and just couldn't get faster than 70mph! and couldn't get past P4 either! So I added a few performance parts and then re-ran the race for a victory.
When upgrading this car I found out that it is the only car when going to widebody that the only thing that goes wide are the wheels nothing else.

@CommanderBond @MidnightRun85 Thanks for that, I'll try that!

I realised I was using a non-stock 908 and the tuning was based on the old physics, hence I reverted back to stock and was getting on better, but still nowhere near a win. That said, I did a few races in Hard Mode before I remembered I had switched it back, so I reckon I am improving and should be able to win on Normal soon. I think I've also modded the GR010 as I did try that and the fuel was nowhere near 10 laps-worth, but I will try setting that back to stock and see how I get on!

Random choices, but fun:
  • Sunday Cup - BMW i3 🔰
  • Japanese FF Challenge - Civic Type-R '22
  • Evolution Meeting - Evo III
  • NA One-Make - Roadster Touring Car 🔰
  • Gr 1 Prototypes - X2019 25th Anniversary

Rewards:
  • Ultra Turbo for RX-7 Spirit R from 6-Star Part Ticket
  • Dupe SLR McLaren from 6-Star Car Ticket

Finished the set with the 30 min race. Used my favorite 962 C. I ended up coasting in on fumes and blocking a bit to a P3 exactly at the 30 min mark. The field was on my tail and I doubt I could finish the bonus lap. I’ve finished P1 before and CRB was lost on lap one so I was only looking to punch my 6 star car ticket anyway. Got the Honda cart thing which I sold immediately.

The 30 minute race at Road Atlanta is one of my favourites in the game. Or at least it was until the latest physics change had rendered the setups of my go-to car (the Mazda LM55 Gr1) as horrible.

Thankfully, a setup I had for the Porsche 919 is still sweet and has a very positive front end, with no turn in understeer. And thanks to the new tyre wear model, I can run RS on FM4 on a two stopper. The hybrid system doesn't charge enough for my liking so it does run out of puff on the back straight easily. With stock power I'm hitting 170mph.

It's tricky to do, but you can win the race with consistent 1.10 lap times on Hard difficulty. On the final stop, if you fill the tank up, you can run FM1 to the end on a brand new set of soft tyres and go chasing after Wong in the dark.

I might fit the medium turbo charger for the extra 100bhp but I'm not sure how much that would affect the fuel usage, if the offset of having to run FM6 to make a two stopper work will cancel out the gains in the straights...

Went back to the Roadster NA races with a mildly tuned Roadster Touring Car and a 13B-swapped NA and took a pair of clean and very comfortable wins.

20970271167169271.jpg

My trusty Roadster TC, adorned in Bathurst BP Visco RX-7 livery easily swept through the field, clearing the front runners on the straight before 130R, and was a comfortable and compliant drive all the way through the race. Won by about 12s after running three nearly identical 2:17 laps!

20970349371314741.jpg

I removed the high-RPM turbo from my Roadster NA which had been collecting dust in a dark corner of my garage, reducing power from around 450hp to 330hp. Still way OP, but fun to drive and sneak past everyone else without even a sniff of a challenge. Got in P1 before Spoon and won by over 22s!

Really enjoying this race! Next up are my 787B-swapped Roadster TC (which will be an absolute monster!) and the completely stock and undriven Roadster I have from early days when they were handing these things out...

I tried again at RA on hard difficulty with the stock 908, RH and FM6 - two stopper worked, but could still only manage a lowly 12th place. That said, I'm hitting 1:13s and the AI is hitting 1:08s, so I don't have a chance with this on hard difficulty.

I nearly had the mother of all rage quits though - I crossed the line a few seconds before the clock ticked down to zero, but for once I actually wanted to do the extra lap as I had fuel and tyres, and figured that some AI might pit or run out of fuel on the extra lap. One car did pit, but I was caught by the AI - however, it managed to tag me from the rear and sent me off, but somehow I managed to contain it and not spin, and only lost one place. If I had been sent flying by the AI on the final lap, I could be looking for a new controller right now, not to mention probably a glazer to repair my living room window, and probably a lawyer as well.
