Guys I think I am going to pass on tonight. Looks like just the 3 of us and tonight is the first night my wife has been home in 4 nights. I think I am just going to spend some time with her (I know, lame ;) ). Are we still on for next week or are we going to look at a short break for the "restructuring"?

Since the participation has turned out like this, I'll pass as well. There's shopping I should do tonight, which I would have put off for racing. Hopefully there's a bigger turnout next week.

I am all about racing and have enjoyed this group more than any other I have been a part of in GT5 (not that any other group was bad, this is just a special group with a cool format). We have certainly taken a slight step back with Mike stepping down as a leader and losing a great racer. Compound with the lack of turnout for all sorts of various life reasons tonight and some might start doubting. I see the change and recent events as a chance to slightly redefine what we have and take the step back to see what the next step is in making this even better. I certainly don't want to lose ground by not racing next Monday, but also wonder if we all need to start posting some additional thoughts and ideas. Almost like this was a brand new venture, but supported with a lot of what we know has worked and been successful. Trying not to talk out both sides of my mouth, but trying to spark some thoughts and conversation. I keep thinking about some other guys I could try and recruit over (been doing that), and what might be just that little bit to tip them over and join.

I didn't desert the series, I just had too much going on tonight and it appears everyone else did too. :nervous:

...but also wonder if we all need to start posting some additional thoughts and ideas.

I'll post something when I think of it.

We should race next Monday if we have enough participant. I believe it is circumciancial if some of us cannot attend, not because we have a broken formula. Being proactive in trying to inform potential new member to join will garantee there is always enough racer in the lounge for interesting parity events.
What is next Monday event going to be? Nurburgring GP/F?

I think it's purely coincidence that there was such a low turn out for this week... I'm stuck at work, so I knew I wasn't going to make it, and with JP out of town and Mike unable to race, the holes added up quickly.

I don't see any reason why I won't be able to attend next week if we have an event. I'd be fine with continuing with the already proposed event, or changing it up with something different.

I have no problem moving on to racing Monday. Personally I would rather see us run Trial Mtn as we have already run the Nurb track.

I am good with either track, just need to know what track to get ready with proper car. :-)

Just as a side note, there is no reason not to go back to a track we liked because we already used it. Actually going back to our favorite event so far could be a good idea. We would need to vote to know what event it was.

Are we gonna stick with the 600pp cars or switch to something more desirable? (Lower PP/Comfort or Sport tires)

The layout of the Nurburgring we used before was the short GP track, the one I put up is the full GP layout.

Plus congrats to naptown as he got the 1000th post within the thread.

Personally I would like to see us race at Trail Mtn for the next 2 weeks (again, one of my favorite tracks though, so I am a little biased). I have no problem coming up with 2 targets, one would be around a 400pp CS and the other a 450pp SH. I don't want to create a new track/target combo if everyone is set on the Nurb 600ppish combo (sounded like some reservations with that combo which is why I suggested changing it up).

I was thinking of a 3 week rotation. First and second week would be at the same track, open car selection. First week would probably be more of the 350-400pp range on CM or CS tires. Second week would push more the 450-500pp range with SH or SM tires. (Target time car PP level may be a bit lower or a bit higher depending on the track). The third week would be more of a theme week. The theme might be drivetrain specific, car based on country, car based on manufacturer, or even decade specific. I would like to even see one of those third weeks maybe be something a little abnormal like 400pp and racing tires.

Something else to consider would be to continuously update the thread title with the track for the 2 weeks, or the theme for the third week. The change and specifically the theme might grab someones attention and peak their curiosity.

Is the current race night and time still the best for everyone? Would starting a bit later help anyone? A different night?

If all decide to run Trial Mtn for the next 2 weeks I have 2 suggested targets.

First week - 1:52.500-1:53.000 (comfort softs)
Roughly achieved with a new Miata (394pp), clutch shifting

Second week - 1:44.500-1:45.000 (sport hards)
Roughly achieved with the RX7 Spirit (462pp), clutch shifting. I was just over 1:44 after one lap, figure a little rounding up might help some without the cars getting too fast for the tires.

Seems fine to me, unless anyone else has objections...

Seeing the racer using his clutch and picking a car based on times ran with banger, You guys have my interest. Not sure if my time schedule will allow right now, but I really want to bang more gears and it's hard to do so when others paddle in matched cars. Seems I'm at least a second up to two slower banging gears. This give me an option to be competitive while shifting. Not looking to win just looking to see tail lights while shifting instead of hoping to avoid being lapped. LoL

On that can I get an invite to the needs rooms. Thanks guys.

No Objections here, event 13, Trial Mtn (next week , October 22nd, 8 PM EDT)
- 1:52.500-1:53.000 (comfort softs)

Owens, welcome aboard, I also race with a banger, and also with ABS 0,
When choosing your first car for next week event, choose a car you enjoy driving instead of just trying to find the one with the lowest PP.
Races will be held in the, PSN: MCRC_lounge
Get the FR in a.s.a.p. to assure acceptance in advance of racing.

Well there goes the neighborhood. Good to have you stop by Owens. Owens is a very talented driver from the ORCA group that NC, JP, Sag, and myself have run with before. Usually I don't see much of him in a straight up race, at least now I can put a bumper to him from time to time ;). In all seriousness, this is a great group and format. Guys have DQ'ed themselves for finding too much speed in a race, are good about giving concessions, and in general just run super clean, 2 or 3 wide most of the race. Its a lot of fun to pick a car of your choice, tune how you like, run the setting you like, etc. Very unique compared to just about every other series/league out there.

Back to the think tank, any interest in running the 3rd round, the theme round (if we do decide on that format), twice in the same week. Once would be the regular time/day. The other be a more European friendly date that many of us could still make so we can try and invite Mike back from time to time.

Trail Mtn week 1

TrackBound7 / TrackBound7 / NC Roadster 07 / 364pp / 1:52.676

Definitely run at least 2 laps, tires really come in on the 2nd lap, makes a difference.

I have a hard time making the normal round timeslot, I'll never make the Euro slot but I have no objection to it of course. I'm ok with Trial Mountain but it looks like it's already decided.

I'm swamped with work but I have been kicking around a few ideas or at least things we should think about.

Do we want to focus mainly on lower PP cars? Say under 450 or 500 perhaps? I like fast cars as much as the next guy but the lower PP cars to tend to iron out the differences in driving ability and bring the field closer together, making for better racing.

Do we want to stick to the back to back weeks on the same track with different pp/tire/target time combinations? I tend to like this idea for simplicity's sake but different targets every week could work too.

Do we want to go to a sort of a monthly format or perhaps a 4 week rotation? For a monthly format we'll have 8 months with 4 race dates, and 4 months with 5. In the 4 week months we could have the same track twice two times and then alter the PP/Tire/Lap time targets and perhaps mix in some themes once or twice a month depending on the groups preference. Perhaps the first week at a track for example could be the standard free for all and then the second week at a track could be the theme week with whatever theme we prefer. American Muscle, Japanese 4wd, Euro FWD etc. In the 5 week months we could do a poll or just do a sort of wild car event.

Welcome aboard Owens..

I was planning on spending time at the lounge around 2h00 EDT today, any one interested to participate in some pre Monday racing/practice at Trial Mountain?

I'm tentatively saying yes to you Cote Dazur. Depends on some things though.

__

What is the ruling on the yellow, striped parts on the track? Do they count as track or do they count as corner cutting?

Ferrari, thank you for spending time with me at the lounge this afternoon, I think we are ready for Monday. :)

About the yellow line, I propose that we try not to go on the with 4 wheels and that we refrain from passing there with 4 wheels in the yellow, if we pass there we should give the position back, just my opinion, I will comply with what the majority prefers.

Monday, I will be racing with

Cote Dazur/ cotedazur06/ Honda S2000 '06 / 415PP / 1 52.689/ EDT

Cockpit view, ABS 0, 4/1, Shifter and clutch.

Looks like I'm not going to get a time in before I go out of town this weekend... So if there aren't any objections, I will have to set one Monday before that night's race... Otherwise I won't be racing until the following Monday.

I like the rules on the yellow area, good idea:tup:

Ferraridude308 / Ferraridude308 / BMW 120d '04 / 1:52.733 / 385PP / Mountain Time

No aids, brake balance: 4/3

NC, no problem on the late entry, better late than not at all.

Ummm, regarding the yellow line, never heard of that being an issue. My understanding is that is all track. What would be the reason for limiting the use of the yellow section?

The reason is that there is also a white line and the question to me is what is the reason for the yellow if it is not to limit the acces, as it would in a real situation.
I have noticed that the AI does not go 4 wheels over the yellow, so since most of my driving is against AI, I do not go 4 wheels over the yellow.
But then again, I will comply to what the consensus is. It is just a question

Any one else as an opinion?

Edit 1: I checked what they are doing at the GTP_WRS, they consider that part to be track, so I guess that settles it.

GT5 Week 82 : Return to Trial Mountain

Ferrari, it is not important, I am just curious, what view are you racing with

Edit 2: just saw that in an other thread and thought it is good to know in case it happen to us Monday:
a little tip for the people who still do not know about this yet. If you are in the room it isn’t the servers. If you get that black screen when the race starts it is not the servers.
Ok here is what you do.
When the race starts and you guys get that black screen someone in the race has a different black screen than everyone. The person that is holding up the race from starting and giving you guys the black screen is the guys who has a BLACK SCREEN WITH THE GRAN TURISMO 5 LOGO IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER. And who ever has this needs to quit the game or sign out or something for getting out of the room
