Hey you guys!

Been roaming some of the sites and got some tuning tips!

Increase the camber angle of front wheels to 3 degs (or slightly higher, as you experiment)
reduce rear camber to 0(zero)
soften front roll bars slightly/increase rear
don't put brake bal controller too high (6/4 ish thats f/r)
set auto gearbox setup to 14ish
Then.......
set rear toe incrementally DOWN till car handles as you like it!

Car now drives around the corners when accelerating, instead of floating outwards like an old lady in an out-of-control wheelchair!

BTW aids OFF except for tcs at 1/2/3 as you like it!

(this i got from all-sorts of sources, so don't blame me! ok? But it does seem to work!)

Hey, thanks for the tips. I'll take anything to get me going on this one quicker since it will be a short race weekend for me.

Good luck up in D2!

Yeah, it's enough trying to figure out where I'm droppig time or even IF I'm dropping time, without then adding in the extra complexities of tuning ... I'll take any little hints I can get!!!!!

Are any of you guys looking at buying Forza? I owned an Xbox before the PS2 (in fact, I bought a PS2 solely for GT4 :P), but the community here in the WRS (and the lack of a DFP for the XBox) are making me have second thoughts about buying the title.

/wave all. Well see alot of activity once again, while the other side of the world sleeps. Gratz to all, and again gratz to those that have made the progression to D2!!!

Knew I could get a sub 4' 30, if I could just work it a little more. But this week will bring new challenges, as i have not been able to mess with tuning at all in GT4, been to busy in WRS and other stuff to been able to get back to my GT World game.

Once again Nat, ya pass me up. Gratz, and you too LMM, though I was running good times with ya by Luxy's, but seems ya pulled it out in the last day to great times. 👍

Time to make fine tunings to the Leaderboard for the coming weeks. Nat and I have been diligantly working this, little by little, to make it the best product we can for us.

I'm interested in it, since I like driving games in general, and good simulations in specific. However, I'm having trouble finding time to do GT4, so I don't need another distraction.

I'm with you on the lack of a DFP support, since I really don't want a driving game controlled by a game controller and I don't want to plunk down more $$$ for yet another wheel.

I'm sure I'll end up getting it at some point, maybe after the dreaded Nurburgring WRS race.

Ok, here's for a serious driving question. Or at least as serious as friendly talks about a video game can be.

One of the key problems I have is consistency. I can throw down a good lap (well, ok, a good D3 quality lap) sometimes, but rarely can I duplicate it. I spend a lot of time working on a good racing line, identifying braking points, identifying what speed I want to enter a corner at, etc., etc. But then comes race time and I can usually hit the braking point ok, but I find that the length of time I brake is inconsistent. If I stick my eyes to the speedometer than I can usually find the best time to let up on the brakes, but then I might miss the turn in point because I wasn't looking.

How do you guys go through corners consistently? I know my biggest bad habit is too heavy on the brakes, I'm having trouble feeling the car and race track like I would driving in my car (btw, with the weather we're having here, can't wait to get out of work and drive home with the top down!).

Boy, that "just one more run" fever hits hard sometimes, doesn't it.

A lot of time my first post to what Luxy puts on the leaderboard will be my very first actual clean time. Then I'll disappear from the internet for most of the weekend while I improve. I was feeling very driven by Kolyana having the top D3 time on Luxy's leaderboard, but I wasn't able to approach her sector times until the last hour of trying (good job this week Kolyana on your 2nd best in Oregon time!)

I was semi-delirous making my last run at 11:30 last night. I was either going to improve or fall back on my previous best. If I'd known that would have only dropped me a couple of spots, I would elected to do that.

Muchos thanks on all the work on the leaderboards. It makes for great fun to see progress (even if it's backwards some weeks). What I'm not looking forward to is the 6 of 8 rule. JMitch17, who missed the first two weeks, is behind me only because he has zero points for those weeks. He'll rocket past me once that rules kicks in. Then he'll be impossible to be a neighbor too!

Hey Natalya. Figured I'd drop a few lines. I picked up on the GT series late. I was on the internet looking for something other than street racing, that was actually realistic, and saw GT4. I checked out GT3 and decided that for $20, I would buy it and then decide if I really wanted GT4. Well, I was instantly hooked, and eventually joined up here. This is my first season of WRS events, and one of my first OLR's period.

Nice to meet all you guys, should have some good, fun competition this season.

The name's Eric, by the way. :)

See you all on the track. :sly:

Well I'm hardly one to offer any comment, really, but I tend to look at landmarks, use these as my guide and brake consistently regarding how much pressure and length of time on the pedal.

My biggest problem doesn't seem to be consistency (I'm constantly and reliably very average :P), but rather simply identifying the right racing line. I mean, with some corners it's obvious, but when you should enter one slower in order to take another faster and make a net gain ... this stuff loses me.

I'm also having a hard time driving "on the edge" and find that it's not my braking or even cornering technique, but rather simpyl the fact that the D2 guys are getting through with an extra couple of mph on the clock that I can't seem to control :(

Hey Eric, good to have you onboard :)

I find that at times, I do tend to maybe apply the break to long and know that this is one of my downfalls. And next run, I do better, but then lose it the run after. For example the first corner in WRS4, it took me a couple of tries to find the right way to go through there, and yet, it seemed I never do it consitantly all the time, even though I knew what I "needed to do", and ended up to far to the left on exit.

And greetings Eric, welcome to the Div 3 gathering.

I find that keeping the ghost car on after each lap helps me to identify where I can go a bit faster or show me a better line through a particular turn.

It also sets a standard that I'm always trying to beat...

Could help you too as well! :D

I turn that off always. Find I screw up more with it there.

If the ghost car is right in front of me, it's too much of a distraction, but otherwise it can be good to chase ... tends to make me push harder; I am SOOOOOOO much better chasing than being chased.

Dammit, that doesn't sound good.

I always use the ghost, especially now that it is so easy to toggle on and off with the DFP. If I know it's going to be in the way I just filp it off until I'm past the point where it would mess me up. Lots of times I'll drive with the ghost touching me most of the lap.:dopey: The best technique for me has been to save lots of different laps and then use a ghost with a bit of a slow T1 then a very fast rest of the lap. That way you can get ahead early, and if the ghost passes you later it's clear to see exactly where and why you lost time, and just hit restart.

As far as braking points and such, that stuff just starts to come naturally after doing this for a while. For some it comes in a short time, for others 6 months or more. I'm at the point now where if I'm not pushing to the extreme, say about 90% of my fastest possible lap, I can lap over and over within a .250 range nearly every lap. The other day in a GT Mode race I ran 2 laps with exactly the same time back to back, kinda cool. Basically, it's all about how much you want to practice, and how seriously you want to be with it all. If you keep at it, things will just "click" one day, then it's off to the races.:)

Hey you guys! and Nat of course!

I know i used to be very consistant with the ds2, but that seems to have dropped off a little with the df wheel. It must be something to do with being able to brake at the same time as accelerating or something.
Noticed the other day that some of the fast boys switch back to using the ds2 pad for some races, like in wks 3 &4 hot and holl both said that they were using it instead of the wheel.
It must be because you can go from lock to lock with the pad VERY quickly as opposed to the wheel it takes some time coz of the resistance from the force feedback!
Gonna try it myself this week sometime, see how i do
I think the wheel is better for precise control of the steering on flowing tracks, ds2 better on twisty tracks.

will let you know!

Hi fellow upgraded driver ! I also tried the DS2 on the Evo race (I think race 3 ?) on Autumn Ring and actually imporved my time with it over the DFP. With the DFP it was just to uncontrollable on that tight track ... but like week 4 I used the DFP cause the car was smooth handling and the track was not too tight I think ... so like you say I think the DS2 does work better on some tracks with some cars ... I see holl01 is using the DS2 for all his races now ... I'll try this week with the Ds2 as well ...

For braking, I remember my inputs and instinctively recreate them. The first lap for me is more or less a learning experience. Everything thereafter is the aplication of what I learned and just bettering my line. Landmarks will, however, be your safest bet but don't try to be precise with them! I.e. don't brake the MOMENT you pass a marker or other. You won't be at the same speed with the same line every time you pass it, so leave a little room for differences and "error" if you will.

Just my advice. If it doesn't work, I can at least say I tried! I certainly hope it does help though. :)

I've never used the DS2 for anything.

Ever.

(I bought the PS2 for GT4 and it's the only title I own).

But i have noticed that several of the faster racers switched to the DS2 in last weeks race and it has got me somewhat curious. I mean, I love the feel of the wheel ... it's an incredible experience ... but maybe the DS2 legally makes the controls more responsive.

honestly I have been playing gran turismo for so long that I don't have to really thing about how long to brake and where to brake and just do it. The key is just not to think about all of that and just learn to do laps thinking about absolutely nothing. If you are worried about all of the stuff you might do wrong you probably will. you know. When I pull a fastest lap it is usually when I am not thinking about anything at all. trust me. you will learn to do this if you don't already just keep trying.

if you don't believe me check the results of the last WRS :sly:
because we all know who won! :)

Heh, maybe that explains why my best race was when I was semi-hallucinating while up an hour or so past my bed time!

Didn't get a chance to try the new combo out last night, hopefully tonight I will. This is actually the first track in WRS that I've driven before - I like the NY track. I'm going to set my goals for a top 10 D3 finish this week, I've only accomplished that once, I think.

i havnt started this weeks race yet, better get started on it soon to get some good times going...

also, happy birthday villenueve81, have a happy D3 birthday :D

Hello Chris mate!

How you getting on this week?

I am SOOOOO slow, Nat's kicking my but this week!
Mind you not done a lot yet this week coz old ps2 caught the dreaded 'gt4 disorder' and is on life support as we speak! lol
Had to get a new slimline one yesterday, and then couldn't use it till earlier on this evening coz of other commitments.

Been toying with setting up last night for a little bit, cause haven't had the pleasuer in GT4 yet to tune anything yet. So hope to be in the dust of ya'll today after work. :indiff:

I was fast last week, too ... and duly came 13th ... so I don't think my early week performance is anything to go by :P

Plus the fact, I feel SLOW ... Haven't really felt like I've wrung the most out of the car and track yet, and I'm pretty sure that you'll get there before I do :P

Picture perfect! Oh wait...it IS a picture. Don't worry though; I will surpass you again this week! At least, I hope so. lol

I've yet to set up my car to anything that handles remotely well. I have a problem in straightines with the drive wheels spinning in 2nd and 3rd gear at higher revs. Think I ought to stiffen the front suspension and play with alignment. Don't remember my Ttimes off-hand.

Backoff, Fuzzball, I've got to have my moment of glory someday! No overtaking allowed :P
