I'm too used to being too tired or lazy to post till the next day.
Anyhow, popped a couple of tickets close to expiration, saving the rest to see if the updates make the payouts any nicer. A three star earned me 10K, a one star 2K, lovely. However, a six star awarded me a Toyota Formula GT, woot!
Then some shopping options came along to put me in a spending mood, and bought
- VW Sambabus '62 at the Used Lot because... what the hell, besides it looked like a superhero sidekick's ride
- Third VW Scirocco R '10
- 2x Ferrari F8 Tributo '19 in red and dark metal at the Dealerships, plus
- Porsche 911 RSR GT3
- Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster '60 at Hagerty's, plus
- Third Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 '93
Then I thought for a change I'd start off Tokyo with the RE Amemiya RX-7, the first car I managed to win that sloppy event with, which pleased Rose. She was looking forward to a rematch. At first I found it to be a bit slippery due to low and unadjustable front downforce, so I quit out to modify a stock RX-7 Spirit R to something roughly like the Amemiya. After spending hours tuning and painting up a similar livery to the one I'd grabbed from the Showcase, it wasn't happening. At almost exactly 150hp less and 66 pounds heavier, it wasn't remotely competitive, so I dragged the Amemiya back out and sought to come to terms with it again. It took a few tries as it wanted to nose into a wall or another car with a touchy gas pedal, so I had to engage my right foot traction control more carefully. It also had a wobbly acceleration in second gear I had to watch, and a turbo lag unit didn't help with it. I don't know if it was an LSD setting thing or what, but torque and accel weren't set very high to start with. Oh well, more right foot TC...
So I gave it a go. The first race was pretty darn fun, and challenging. Within the first lap I passed S'willo who was in sixth place, though at the easternmost curves he banged his way ahead of me again, the charlatan. I persevered and made it back to sixth by the tunnel, nipping at Igor Fraga's bumper for a few seconds before just managing to draft around him into the second lap, but my times were about two seconds slower than I was used to so I had to dig up some extra talent quick. Soon I was doing better, and gradually pulled within range of the four leaders, with S'willo grabbing second behind his "boss." Then "Vigallo" had pitted which made it three. It took a few laps, but with careful throttling around curves I could reel them in gradually, passing Rose and then Mikail in his midnight blue Subaru. I briefly had first place but S'willo was unwilling to let that stand, and I had to shave off some time before I could hold it. By lap 8 he was threatening to take the lead back, but he was teasing and eased off into pit lane, leaving me with a reasonable lead.
I didn't have much gas left myself, though the tires were holding up well, even the front sport mediums, so I was counting on what lead I had against Rose and Igor holding true with just three laps worth of fuel and a splash more. As I floored it out of pit lane, I found myself still in the lead. But just as I was rejoicing, I peeked back to see Rose coming up fast, and zoomed past me before the eastern turns. Catching her took a couple of laps, but slowly I began to whittle away the gap between us as she teased me about racing, as I did to her in the Tomahawk, and I had to laugh. It was nip and tuck though getting past her proved quite hard. I wish I knew her tune, but of course that's a trade secret.
On the 11th lap, she had to pit which really disappointed me, as I was relishing the challenge of passing the alien - er, girl, but she had driven to her car's limit. So I drove as hard as I could, seeing Blofeld in second place. But checking the map and looking back, he was nowhere to be seen, so I had one lap to myself with an anticlimactic finish.
The other races went similarly, so all I needed to do was readjust to the Amemiya's quirky habits.
