What did you do in GT7 today?

Had a great day in the world of GT today. Completed the Tokyo and Willow Springs Kei championships and had so much fun with it I did it a few times in my S660 with 76hp, and my Cappuccino with 112hp... one was much easier to win with, but they were both hilariously fun to drive and made for a super fun session.

Then went to Trial Mountain to run some hot laps in the Carrera GT I bought a while ago and... WOW. What an amazing thing to drive. Much like the F12, which I also love, it's out to kill you at all times, and the throttle is not something to be abused, but the poise and balance of the car is just wonderful, it's alarmingly fast, and ultimately such a rewarding thing to drive and master. Even got away with some pretty lurid oversteer with it which felt amazing to pull off.

It's one of those special things in the game that make dealing with all the ancillary BS so worth it, and proof that the sum is much larger than the parts.

Despite its current problems, I’m still glad we have GT7 now at the end of the day. I don’t think I would’ve been able to stomach another year of GT Sport.
Its current problems are many. There are plenty of custom races to do and plenty of things to tweak though. I just get tired of the little things that annoy me is all. I know I am not alone in the complaints department.

I did 2 of the Circuit Experiences and got gold in all sectors and full laps.

Interlagos
GT-R is so much fun to drive around this track. It's actually quite easy to drive around this track. I think I got gold in all sectors and the full lap with less than 4 attempts, each. The full lap only took 2 attempts. The 2nd sector took 4 attempts, while sectors 3 and 4 took 2 attempts, each. Sector 1 took me 3 attempts to get gold. Overall, It was pretty fun with that car with how easy it is to drive on the edge and keep it between the lines.

Monza
Hardest sector, for me, was the 3rd sector. I must've tried that dang thing like 20 times before finally getting the gold. At one point, I was .008 away from it. Talk about frustrating. But 3 attempts later (with 2 off tracks), I finally got it. The final sector at Monza took me only 1 try to get gold. The full lap took 2 attempts to get gold. I was less than a second off and got silver on my first attempt. My second attempt, I got gold with more than a second ahead of my previous attempt. The other sectors I got gold in only 2 attempts, each. Again, a fun track with one of my favorite cars in the game. I put a lot of miles on that particular car in GT Sport. And I've put quite a few in GT7, as well.

I should have taken that to heart because what I chose next was Deep Forest Reverse.

I do NOT like that track reversed. Some courses are not even right reversed, and this is one of them. Getting remotely competent with the FT-1, I was aghast to find that the event was dusky and foggy to boot. I just wanted to blow through it after struggling with the time trial and put difficulty on easy. And... even with the headache inducing bots, it actually wasn't too bad. Never doing it again though.
Deep Forest is a disaster in reverse. Turns 2 and 3 are shockingly bad.

Well, today there's a casual mini time attack competition at the mall so I decided to try it. All the assists were on full strength so everyone can play it but I sneakily turned TCS from 3 to 0 but couldn't turn off anything else. The car used was the Clio at High Speed Ring.
I suspect the game wasn't updated at all because the physics felt different. Ended up with 1:30:639, which is the fastest lap so far. Couldn't use left foot braking since they don't install a driving rig and instead we have to stand while driving. It was weird as hell.

I hope turning the TCS to 0 won't ruin anyone else experience at the mall lol

Golded the "Gone with the Wind" set of missions. I probably spent a good 150k modding my R35 to beat that freakin Viper in the drag race. That along with the Viper drifting mission at Daytona were the only two that really gave me trouble.

And finished playing around the livery I've been making for the Gr.4 Mustang. It took me longer than I care to admit before I noticed there was a search function for custom decals people already have made. :dunce: Not the most complicated livery ever but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I had a go at those Gr1 races today. Took me a couple of attempts to get into the top 3 at Daytona, in a slightly detuned Redbull. St croix was looking much easier, until I ran into a little bit of tire trouble, but still managed a second. Suzuka was a good race, with me fuel saving for rain that only lasted for a couple of corners. I managed to grab the lead on the last lap, my only victory of the day.

I'll definitely be trying all three of those races again.

Rubbish day today. Although in a car that will win Gr1 easily, that's only if the driver is any good!
Managed only 3rd at St Croix, 2 seconds behind second place (another Peugeot 908) and 55 seconds behind first! 🥺 That was the hybrid L750 or something.
Had several goes at Daytona and only managed 7th place.
Gave up with that menu and went to earn some money at LeMans. For the first time (I think) I didn't win.
Got caught out by the rain. It started chucking it down at the end of lap two, literally a second before I needed to decide pit or continue. Stupidly I continued..... and it rained heavy! I was first at that stage and all the cars behind pitted.
After a quarter of a lap I had to crawl as aquaplaning all the time.
Pitted for wets and came out 19th. Clawed quite a few places back but wets were gone half way through lap 5. Pitted again, put inters on, came out 18th on lap 6, last lap, leader nearly 2 minutes ahead.
I ended up 9th after overtaking quite a few cars that were crawling. No worries, still got over Cr.200k, so better than expected.

Knocked out the VGT races with the Alpine I had won a while back. All it needed was a set of soft tires and despite being quite a ways below the PP limit still took a win in all three races, definitely had to concentrate on clean passing though. It doesn't have the raw acceleration as many of the other VGTs, but it held the corners so well that it ended up being a Mini vs. Mustang kind of affair.

Got double lucky with the roulette tickets: The 6-star ticket from clearing the menu book gave me the Volkswagen VGT (there were three possible VGTs to win there!), and the 4-star I got for daily mileage gave me an RX-7 engine which I promptly dropped into the '89 MX-5 that was just sitting untouched. 🎉

So then I set about playing with my new engine-swapped toy, and it handles that rotary very well with only minimal tuning which surprised me. I also noticed that there's an audible beeping sound when it reaches its shift point, which I haven't heard with any other car... is that just a feature of engine swaps to compensate for the RPM gauge being incorrect?

My project for later today will likely be building a few more cars for WTC 600 since the Tokyo money printer seems to have finally been siwtched off. The '02 Viper GTS has no problems tearing up this series, so I'll probably be looking at the Japanese contingent for a likely candidate next.

I really enjoyed those events too, and you're dead right - they really felt like the essence of GT encapsulated perfectly. I managed to take the lead on the last lap at Willow Springs only to go the wrong ******* way which was a bit stupid, though I did manage to re-take the lead before the end.

I just completed the Vision GT Cafe Menu... was very unimpressed to begin with, checking out bits of scenery at Deep Forest I never knew existed, and did myself out of a race win by smacking a protruding bit of armco on the last lap. But once you get a handle on driving the car properly (and stop swearing profusely at it), it was really pretty good fun. Oh, and this happened at Kyoto, which resulted in a horrible accident on the last lap which cost me the win... can you see a pattern forming at all??

Oh, and got the Bugatti VGT for my efforts too, so I'm pretty happy with that :)

You're not kidding about the prices at Hagerty's. By my calculations, the ones that had an arrow before/immediately after the 1.15 update (including the Mark IV that had it slapped on during the update...hours after it sold out and the C2 Corvette that had its down-arrow flipped up during the update) will have a net increase of 1,914,000 Cr.

I learned to lift before that ski jump...the hard way.

It's a feature of that powertrain. The donor 2002 RX-7 also does that (as does the 1990 RX-7).

Yesterday N24 was on in Manufacturer's. Since that's my absolute favorite track, I wanted to make the best out of it, run all 4 races (why only 4!!!). It was a bit of a struggle.

First of all, I'm high DR A pace on N24, reached A+ there before. However Monza had killed my DR to below half through DR B. Thus I got locked into GT2. Racing from the back it is. My test time in a custom race with the same settings got me down to 8:16, the best quali lap all night in GT2 was 8:17.8. I was in the wrong league, but whatever.

I run the qualifier for the first race but pit at the end of the 2nd lap so my time doesn't count (would have been pole but that would just be a boring race). First weird issue, everyone was done qualifying yet the timer still went on for another 4 minutes waiting for dead air...

So the actual race finally starts at 8:28, next one is starting at 9:00, so I have only 29 minutes to race.
Gran Turismo® 7_20220527205810.png

That's how far I got 2/3rd lap left to catch the rabbit, rabbit got away. Quit to enter the next race.

Second race I didn't enter the track for qualifying, just stayed in the lobby while walking the dog etc. The timer still insisted on counting down to zero after everyone was finished. Was it waiting for me to set a time? No Idea.

This time I only had 28 minutes to race:
Gran Turismo® 7_20220527215732.png

Easier race, no surprise with the races overlapping. Those most interested already entered the first time slot. (My DR wouldn't have gone down yet since race one was still going during matchmaking for race 2)

On to race 3. This time I figured I'll set a slow quali time and maybe the timer won't waste 5 minutes at the end. I start straigth away, get out in 4th, pass the 4 cars and make quite a lead before crawling down the straight end of lap 2 to sandbag my time.
Gran Turismo® 7_20220527222014.png

PD has quite a mean streak, big rain appearing at the end of qualifying. The last people on track had a lot of trouble completing the lap, spinning out, also slow down the straight. And still the timer insisted to count down the last 2 minutes with everyone finished.

In the first 2 races there was a little rain, exact same small band passing over at the same time, not dropping enough rain to need different tires. So I concentrated on the radar instead while racing, good battle in lap 2, then started to build a lead in lap 3.

Then this hit and kept building
Gran Turismo® 7_20220527224924.png

It didn't take long before I had to slow down to 80 and could barely make corners at 20 kph. People in the back had the benefit of already having rain before the got by the pit end lap 2 so they pitted and got tires.

The rain lasted the entire lap and by the time the track became a bit more drive-able again I was in 7th
Gran Turismo® 7_20220527225802.png

Time to quit, 28 minutes are up. It would have been fun to see if I could pass them again while staying on the dry line while the other cars continue on intermediates, but the lure of another race won out.

Last one, didn't bother to qualify (nice break time) and turned out to be the easiest race. I dropped to SR A from quitting races which I didn't expect to happen. I should have gained plenty SR from all the other clean laps to compensate for the SR drop from quitting. Maybe the SR ups don't count anymore when you quit, or the quit negative SR has been increased. Odd.

Last race only had 12 people (out of max 16, what happened to 20 and 24 players in championships) I got in first in lap 2 and drove a steady race the rest of the way.
Gran Turismo® 7_20220528000436.png

The rain was back to its first mode, a small band. With PD dynamic means, A or B, all or nothing...

The victory screen, 103.6km, 33:37 race time, 76 points and 137.5K in GT2 and back to SR S
Gran Turismo® 7_20220528000531.png
And a sports suspension for the daily ticket (race ended after midnight)

More of N24 please, and more dynamic as well. Not this A or B stuff. Plus we really need a way to have weather radar and car radar on at the same time. Car radar should be permanent and separate, fading in more in the middle when cars are close. Or at least some other warning rain is coming and please slow the supersonic cloud speed down

Logged on. Did one run around Le Mans in the WTC700 with the Alpine A220. Got my daily workout gift in the form of a grey Murcielago, shockingly. Logged off.

Contemplated running the same race again with the Mark IV GT40, but decided against it because I didn’t feel like grinding again, especially when I’ve been invited for some trainwatching

I got a clean P1 in all three races from the Lightweight K Cup today, and each race took no more than two attempts. The one at Maggiore was a bit tricky, so just for that race, I changed my top speed from 170 kph to just 140. It was a good thing I changed it back to 170 for the race at Tokyo Expressway - South Clockwise, because I was getting pretty close to 170 on that back straight. I collected my Radical, and then started the VGT Trophy menu.

I hadn't actually obtained a VGT car yet, and I was considering either the one from Lamborghini or Lexus, as both come very close to the 850 PP limit as-stock. I ultimately picked the Lexus, and it can easily get just under 850 PP once you equip Racing Softs and do some minor changes to the power/weight settings. Besides, it's not like tire wear is enabled for any of these races anyway.

Still, I'm definitely thinking of doing the Autopolis One Hour next, before doing the VGT Trophy races.

Oh, and I bought a yellow Daihatsu Copen, just because I felt like it.

Yesterday: Did the Kei Cup thing. Not my favorite, but was more fun than I expected. Use my Honda somethingorother that I bought for the Mission Challenge. PD changed the PP from 399.X up to 413.X so I had to go take some PP off of it but ended up with three P1s.

Last one of the Cafes to do is the Gr1... looks like it'll be quite challenging. Not sure which car to use, but I've only got like 2mil in the bank so I can't be trying a bunch of things. Maybe a GrC will work, but looks like people are liking the Mazda VGT.

Today: Got a P1 in Daily B on the last turn!

Yesterday was fun. First I went shopping and bought
  • Third Nissan Fairlady Z Z34 (370Z) '08 at the Used Lot, plus
  • Third Toyota Supra RZ '97
  • Thir - fourth?? AMG SLS '10 - darn, I didn't know I had three... oh well, put to use or put to pasture
Then I did the final Vision GT race at Interlagos with the FT-1, going back to racing hards, and while it was a challenge to get through the pack, I managed to catch and pass the Porsche on the last lap for the victory. That race was a hoot, I should do that again.

I stared at the six star ticket I won for a minute. Then opened a couple other ripening two stars, earning me two 5K purses, meh. Then I did some research on the Gr1 Menu Book events and what people did to win. There was a lot of complaining which wasn't encouraging. Then some posts of what others used to win and their strategies which was encouraging. One mentioned popping their six star ticket and winning a Peugeot 908 HDI FAP 2010 which they used effectively. So I opened mine and won an Audi R18 2016 LMP. Hmm... a few other cars were mentioned: the Porsche 962, Mazda 787B and some others, but I had these in my stable.

To start with, I took the Audi to Suzuka since that was an event that a lot of people grumbled about, and giving it a patented Stryker Tune I then time trialed it. I was reminded how much I dislike these Gr1 machines as they feel deadly, and made for a tense run. When I was flying, I felt even more anxious than with the Tomahawk - it literally pained my heart to go so fast! In time, I reached my limit and topped out at 1:49.760. Had no idea how that stood in the grand scheme of time trials, but I was spent.

I tried the Porsche 962 next with a tweaked Praiano tune, but was more than a second slower. Looking the board over afterward, I was irritated to see that he had another tune for the Porsche which was even faster, my observational skills now in doubt, but had to see about this. I slapped a midrange turbo on it and tried again. ZOMG, the rocket was now a demon! After pushing it as hard as I dared, I was more than three seconds faster at just under 1:45.8. I badly needed a break and watched a replay.

The 787B was actually a relief because it was more than three seconds slower than the Porsche. But there was one more car someone had tried, the Super Formula GT, and I just so happened to have a Toyota in my stable. They moped that they had to detune it a lot, so I wasn't sure how this would go. But darn if this cruise missile wasn't a blast, even detuned with a power restrictor. And fast! I wasn't sure how I was doing since I felt much safer, but saw that I was whacking times down by the lap. When I finished torturing myself, I wondered how it would do if I switched the racing softs to hard. Doing another session and pushing ever harder, I managed to beat my previous time thanks to a relaxed detune, so evidently the harder compound had no ill effect. These are the results.

I'm not the fastest Human around, but if I can impress an alien, I must not be too shabby. Now, to tackle these Gr1 monstrosities...

Golded the "Gone with the Wind" set of missions. I probably spent a good 150k modding my R35 to beat that freakin Viper in the drag race.
Aren't those such lame missions? For that Viper and the final R35 I threw EVERYTHING at my own R35, making basically a drag car. All the power, lost all the weight, added nitrous... and still for the last drag race against the game's R35 I had to draft him and come back around to win.

It just doesn't make sense to me that a fully modded R35 with nitrous (the game car did not have N2O) needs to basically cheat by going into his lane and drafting to beat him. And it didn't come down to the launch either, I had him for the first 60 feet or more.

Some things in this game just don't make sense!
