What do you want from GT5 in terms of weather?

I voted "Weather should be able to change dynamically on long races, and there should be a day/night tranistion in 24hour races. " and "Other"...

My "Other" statement is - as long as I can switch it off...

Also - I don't want realtime data to be used... because generally I play at night and therefore I would always have to play at night time in europe.

I don't want the day/night cycles to be fixed on YOUR current time.

But what I do want is day/night cycles for endurance races AND have different day/night times for EVERY SINGLE TRACK.

Sunrise, day, sunset, night. Would be awesome.

Rain would be cool, but I can see it being hard to implement.

GT4 was annoying as every track was in daytime. would be cool if for example London track is sometimes day, sometimes at sunset, sometimes at midnight time and sometimes at sunrise time. That way, it never gets boring!

I think all of this stuff, weather/realtime, damage, day/night, would all have to option to be turned off or on. I do not think KY would force people to drive in the rain if they did not want to.

Whilst not weather as such I'd like to see more effort on water from GT5P. The lakes in GT5P at Suzuka and High Speed Ring we're bad, completely lifeless and a let down in effort compared to everything else graphically. Forza 3 has highlighted in their game presentation the appearance of water in their game and it looks like it should. Check out one of the developer interviews think I saw it on gametrailers. Life like water on GT5 would give me great satisfaction, let's hope we see it, especially on tracks such as Monte Carlo where there is heaps of it.

TBH - I'm not bothered about water based scenery... much rather effort and processing power was expended elsewhere.

I do want dynamic weather and a day/night cycle. But one thing I don't want to see is the weather to go through all 4 seasons in longer races, it would be nice every now and then, but it wouldn't be very realistic to see it happen all the time. Hopefully Polyphony Digital have thought about that. 👍

Well, I would hope that if they make a trailer of GT5, they would show all the features the game will include. And if it is true that the game is almost done, such a big feature shouldn't have been left out. I hope they do have weather effects, but I don't know; it took a lot of kicking and screaming from the fans just to get damage...

I doubt it had something to do with kicking and screaming from fans.
PD always knew what theyre doing, they also always wanted damage.

You know what? i would say dynamic weather effects all the way.. but right now im ready to just get weather in the game.. just rain on some tracks during some races and i'll be satisfied.

This thread is as good as any (on weather)

Double H made a good point from the Neogaf forums

PD's been perfecting the clouds.

Same track in almost the same position but all the clouds are different, this may mean something or it may mean nothing, just a thought.

Tbh i find the newer Skybox prettier, maybe they just changed it because of the looks, i wouldnt read to much into that.

Rain and snow should be in the finished game.

It is almost a deal-breaker for me if rain isn't included - and yes I realize that is silly. :sly:

In GT3 my favorite track was "Special Stage Route 5 Wet". That is still one of the most beautiful tracks in any racing game. Period.

Kazunori Yamauchi has been talking about the rain effects in GT5 for over 3 years now and I hope at the TGS we will finally get confirmation of it.

The poll options do not answer the question asked. I expect nothing, because GT has never had good weather and day/night cycles. We only get a half-assed damage implementation for gods sake...you can't expect rain drops too AND rainbows...

Didn't we already get announced that weather was out for the game? For wet courses, they'll just do Tsukuba again and add some more. For snow, they'll probably have it inbuilt into the snow tracks. And clouds could be a random feature just about on any course.

I voted for dynamic weather + day/night on long races, though I'd ad the cravat to that that I would expect to see extreme weather in WRC.

In a lot of race series, and certainly some tracks (the ring for example) extreme fog/snow/very heavy rain will just see the race black flagged, which certainly wouldnt be much fun in a game.
However in WRC it generally continues no matter how bad the weather is, (at least it did years back when I used to watch it). Driving a stage in heavy snow or thick fog is all part of the sport, so I'd be disappointed if they dont include it there.

On 'standard' races (and online), I'd like to see the weather be optional, given I'm sure a lot of newer players would get a bit annoyed with the extra difficulty (and online I just see it resulting in a hell of a lot of crashes!)

Of course dynamic weather changes corresponding to satellite data would be great, but I really don't expect that of them.

For endurance races, I guess the cycles are quite important, but for shorter races, I would be absolutely elated and grateful if each track had different weather modes (sunny, cloudy, evening/dawn and night) and you find the race being held in one of those conditions when you turn up. Even THAT would seem almost too good to be true, for me.

Getting to see Grand Valley at night, Trial Mountain under dark clouds and cars with their lights on, or the Nurb at sunrise. Yeah, that would completely bowl me over.

I am not aware of weather being disregarded by any credible source. The closest I have seen is an interview with Kaz, in which he said that implementing rain effects is difficult, after which he said 'we are trying'.

This is fairly concordant with previous GT games as both GT3 and 4's wet tracks featured not rain effects, but rather a wet track.

I personally feel to do rain 'well', certain parts of the track need to be programmed to have less grip than others. You can see this in real life, even in a small area, there will be patches of tarmac which are more prone to aquaplaning than others. So rather than grip levels simply being reduced uniformly throughout the track, some area's of the track have relatively high grip, and others don't, this helps bring in the element of unpredictability that rain provides in real racing.,

Dynamic weather and day/night cycle would be nice but I'll be happy even if it's just 24/7 sunshine especially as you open a huge can of worms in terms of development and testing time and effort once you introduce a dynamic weather system (time/effort which could have been spent elsewhere).

There is a reason why PD modelled amost model everything in 3d such as Tokyo Route track such as trees...and stuff..it is possible to change the light effects and add weather..to the track...i think

Microsofts Flight Simulator X grabs real time weather information and changes it while you're flying. I would expect to see a feature like this in GT5, but wouldn't be disappointed if it wasn't there. I'd be happy with random dynamic weather.

  • Weather should be able to change dynamically on long races, and there should be a day/night tranistion in 24hour races.
  • I want the weather to be able to change according to real life, getting data from satellites and uploading it in real time.
  • I want the ability to host private races online, where I can programme the weather changes for the race ahead

That's my votes!!! :)
