LOL, well said! GT5 clearly smashes FM3 right in the mouth where physics are concerned. FM3 is so easy to drive I don't even turn on traction control unless it's a R1 class car. Braking in FM3 is also super easy and have never needed ABS in a single car. In GT5 you have to be much more careful when braking.

hard physics=/=realistic physics...

:indiff: Is stablish that there is a hidden TCS in game, cars like the F40 are not that stable and the fact that the cars are more controllable or have more grip doesn't mean that the game is more realistic.

I been playing both FM3 and GT5 the last two days so physics wise GT5 wins,(you probably will say no and for some magical reason FM3 for you will be better),the reason of why GT5 physics are better is simple,in FM3 you have the options of tire setup and fine tuning(you have to buy the tires but it can be done),and GT5 allows you to do that in pre-race,the thing about GT5 is that there is a larger line-up of tire compounds to test, and in that aspect is were FM3 should beat GT5,but the thing is that FM3 doesn't beat it,it falls back because the tire compound in a car like an F40 or F430 doesn't have that amount of grip,in GT5 there is more tire compound to choose and you eventually come across(specially in the S range)a fine set-up to duplicate real life condition and the do the test.

In my case I took both F430 and F40 over TG test track,(sound are better in FM3 I amid it ,the F430 just sound amazing),but S3 tires in hammerhead looks exactly the same as the show does, also the chassis in GT5 seem to more spot on,it bounces and is noticeable while driving, after that you start to play with the settings and tires, for this I use the same TG test track and Fujimi Kaido, both games feels complete different even if you intent to make them drive in the same way(TCS,ABS,MT-AT,same tires set up),in the GT5 case the car feels a bit more alive,in FM3 as well but in GT5 the cars have more identity, graphics FM3 cars sometimes doesn't feels right, like the engine bay seems like a cardboard box were snake can hide(look FM3 F40 engine bay),and GT5(premiums)just are almost perfect,is hard to find mistakes on premiums(there is a jagged edge behind the pedals on GT5 that's what I found so far).

So contact to the road in FM3 is not realistic because the cars feels glued to the road and that is not realistic in cars like Dodge viper and Alfa Romeo 8C,the only way to tell both physics is just play both games, side to side and then comparing it with a real world video.

And finally against what other people say the standard cars can be good fun,Audi RS6 can be good fun, more fun that in Forza cockpit view because that car feels more free to the road and more alive, something strange because Audis in FM3 are fun but not as fun as GT5 versions(even standards).

Good read, thanks for sharing your opinion.

Now THAT is funny ;)

Well i really like Forza because of its great cummnnty features ( store front, auction house, online) and its ability of customization ( paint, body, tuning options, saving different tunes on one car, and parts list) But that about it and he driving is good. With gt5 i realllllllyyyyyy like the physics and how good everything looks( premium cars only and tracks)

  • open wheel cars
  • dynamic weather
  • dynamic time of day
  • my lounge
  • custom public lobbies
  • active aerodynamics
  • better animation of suspension movement
  • an affordable steering wheel is available
  • steering via gamepad feels more direct
  • license tests
  • special events
  • better lighting
  • up to 16 cars on track (but frame rate suffers)

Are you forgetting that cars with Airbrakes have them in properly, even the Standards. I have Forza-mates who never knew the Veyron HAD a spoiler till we sat down with GT5.
Hey, i never knew the Mclaren F1 had an Airbrake until I won one and took it to a track!!!
And LMP1 class Le Mans cars will DENT. I thought i was on a non chicane sarthe in the Audi R10...
Dynamic daytime includes tracks that ARE at night.

lol.. for me GT is Icon, but forza just another way microsoft to make money, when I tryed it at my friends house it was very poor quality, I don't understand people who likes that game, seriously, you have to be blind and dont know nothing about cars and how they act :) sure it have some features GT can learn from.. but thats it.. my opinion.. Even GT for me isnt perfect, it has its huge flaws, and physics isnt perfect, but when I see it in action on nurburgring I just forget all that maters and enjoy the ride...

GT has one thing: a direct link with the true automotive world. Think of what PD has done. PD designed the Amuse S2000's and the Opera Performance cars. The Nissan GT-R's 11-page screen display? Completely by PD. The Peugeot 908 HDi FAP has text on the wing saying Gran Turismo 5. The Team Oreca R8 in the game has GT4 logos on it. The Skyline GT-R pace car is by PD. The X2010 Prototype is by PD. Every car at the 24 Hours of Nurbrigring has a GT banner on the windshield, and so does every D1GP car. Gran Turismo has GT Academy, which gives a lucky driver a true chance to become a race car driver. Gran Turismo is a good game, and so is the Forza franchise, but Polyphony Digital has had a profound effect on the automotive community. Tell me the next time you see a Forza car at Le Mans, Microsoft.

I would like to see Dan Greenwalt finish 4th in class at the Nurburgring 24 hrs like Kaz did.

but one thing that I really dislike about Forza 3 is that driving in FM2 felt SO much better. I just don't know why they changed it so much.

This

Added to matchmaking and lack of custom lobbies meant meant I played Forza 3 for about a month and then just left it

The Peugeot 908 were sponsored by Microsoft and Forza. :D

From '07 to '09 they had minimal sponsorship of the 908, but nothing like GT5/Playstation on the '10 908 and now the 2011 Peugeot 90x http://www.motorward.com/2010/11/peugeot-90x-prototype-racer/

GT has had a presence at Le Mans since 2003. Even the Mulsanne Chicane is called the Playstation chicane with Gran Turismo logos

Full Gran Turismo sponsorship of the Pescarolos that fought for overall victory from '03 - '09 and the ORECA R8

I´ve both games, played FM3 around 15 hrs since I got it (4-5 months), played GT5 around 60 or more hrs...

Fanboy? Yeah a bit... But why did I play GT5 much more? I can use a wheel...

And also even though the A-spec in GT5 is not the best, the career mode in FM3 is a joke...

On the other side FM3 has some interesting trackc like this Fuji track... But I feel no passion when I play FM3... I don´t feel this "love" that PD gives his game...

Play the Nordschleife in GT5 and then play it in FM3... FM3 feels like made in 1 day, GT5 feels like they implemented every little (google translation --> bumpiness?) of the track...

I´ve heared it from a few race drivers in interviews that they trained their skills with GT4 for an race course wich they had never driven before... and then they say it was exactly the same as in real life after driving it...

Sure this is fanboy wars but for me you can feel the difference in that way,

passion vs. money...

FM3 has cars sounds and GT5 has tractor sounds.
You can not deny it.

Never been around any tractors that sound anything like the cars in GT5, and I've been around my fair share of tractors. :sly:

Like a lot of other have said, GT just *feels* different than Forza. It feels like it is more than a game, and it has a sort of passion to it that I just can't find in any other game. While I think Forza has better sounds, I think that is where the list ends for Forza. They're both fantastic games, but GT pulls away. All my opinion, of course.

I was just approaching a corner and passed three cars each with their own engine sound while downshifting, and I could hear the popping from their exhausts as the engines rapidly decelerated, I could hear as if the engines were running beside me, not like some audio clip of an engine, but it sounded as if the air was actually passing through the exhaust and the actual tones were being generated from the engine itself...

Thats what it has over FM3 :)

And also even though the A-spec in GT5 is not the best, the career mode in FM3 is a joke...

I never say anything about peoples opinions, but to say Forza's career mode is a joke compared to GT5 is, well I don't really know what to say. I didn't have to grind one time in forza 3. The cars I needed always came to me to use, and it flowed nicely from one race to the next. It was much easier to setup a good race because of the grading system. I had many good races against the AI in forza, and have not had one yet in GT5. You always smoke everyone but one car, so you have to make your car fast enough to compete with that one car, and it ruins the point of even having other cars on the track.

A-spec, is the worst design I have ever seen in a game. They put no thought into it at all, and it's a train wreck, even worse then the old GT's. I love GT and all but this one is the worst one yet when it comes to the single player aspect of it. I can't think of any game ever, besides maybe E.T. that had a worse single player experience. I love the cars, physics, and tracks, but the single player is a joke.

I've logged about 15 hours in GT5 now and have some 100+ in FM3. The lowdown for me? GT5 has better driving, but FM3 is overall the better game. MUCH better AI and racing, better tracks, and a damage model that isn't pathetic like GT5. So far in GT5 I can drive relaxed on my couch. In FM3, nearly every race was white knuckles focus to either chase down the lead cars or to have perfect lap after perfect lap just to hold a slim lead.

GT5=driving game
FM3=racing game

I dont know a single person who can give an honest opinion about which is better. Forza or Gran Turismo. Everybody have their favourite. I am a GT fan and I wouldnt choose Forza over GT ever. Even though I have played many hours of FM3 it's still not even close to what I get out of playing GT games. GT has some sort of weird soul that Forza doesnt have. Maybe that soul is fanboyism.

I have tougher races/challenges in GT5 than Fm3. GT5 AI is a little too aggressive and hard to knock off the road while FM3 were too passive (a lot easier to keep them behind you) yet I have to admit I had some fun to run them off the road. A little bump in the rear and watch the AI fly off the track. Still for most of the time I aim to race clean.
With even cars both AI are a little too easy except GT5 FGT races. ( I wish more races in GT5 were that challenging) Those races I found pretty hard. I never experience any race that challenging in FM3 (still some tracks were still challenging) where I had an equal car with the AI.
As far as FM3 damage I found for the most part I could totally ignore it as I could do some serious car banging and still win the race. Same with GT5.

p.s With ABS off in GT5 I find in a lot of cars I could still brake hard down the straight but had to release the brake some to take the corners while in FM3 I could continue pressing the brakes hard all the way into the corner and still turn the car ( with assist off). There maybe a few exceptions in both games.

The only thing I miss from F3: Porsche, Porsche, Porsche, and the US variants of Japanese cars: 99-00 Honda Civic Si, etc. Online leader boards, etc would be next, but we're told those are coming.
