What have you done to your car today?

I saw one for sale online once and assumed it was an import. Celicas are one of those cars that get a head turn out of me because of Gran Turismo, and I've just never seen an All-Trac in person. Cool though, I'll have to look into that.

*ED. - It looks like the All-Trac ended with that 5th-generation. Happen to know if 5th- and 6th-gen drivetrains are interchangeable? :sly:

Sweeeet. Future project, maybe, it would be a cool alternative to an Impreza.

Took the last few bits off the block today. Except for three coolant plugs, this thing's DONE. Just have the head to do still.

Oh, and I forgot to mention my Type-R wing for the RSX came Friday, and yesterday I dropped it off at Maaco for paint; it'll be done Monday. This will be my first experience with them, and I'm a bit nervous. The car needs a re-spray on the driver side because it looks like someone used the wrong paint on the quarter panel. One shop got an extremely thorough look around the car and, including some body work on the hatch and hood, wanted $4,000. The guy at Maaco just said, "ah, I could spray that whole side for $600." I think I'll pass, try to find some pre-painted parts I need to lower the 4k, and get it done right.

That's rich. I gave him the wing and my car's paint code, and broke out. He just happened to notice the car's bad paint job and gave me a quick estimate. I don't like how they just mask everything off, I've seen some pretty half-assed Maaco work online. With the wing, it'll let me know of at least this particular store's quality of finish.

I typically hear of about $2,000-2,500 for a quality respray, so I've grown comfortable with that number considering all the work involved to do it right. Even Maaco's top-spec full car paint job is in the $2,000's somewhere. $4,000 seems outrageous, but the shop I got that quote from (Ozzy's in Loveland, CO) has a really good reputation. However, one of the items on the price list I was given included $400 for a single repacement headlight - the tabs are broken on one. I can get a pair of DOT-approved lights for I think it was $160, so it's things like that I'll do myself to bring the price down. There's a spot on the front of the hood that needs some metal work plus the typical tiny rock chips, but it's looking like getting the Mugen hood I want and getting that painted will end up being about the same. The guy told me they generally charge $600 a panel.

*ED. - Got the wing back today and mounted it. There are a couple very minor flaws in the paint, but overall I'm pretty pleased with the finish. We'll see how it holds out over the next several months, and who knows I may let Maaco paint the rest of my car!

I fitted one of these "replace your Universal joint boot without removing the hub etc" kits basically you remove the old one and fit this one which is split for gluing together once in place....

I'll see how long it lasts...

To my knowing, the average price for a full car paint job is $300.

Oh no! I would be homeless if they were that cheap! You would have been closer if you had said $3000, and that's still cheap for a quality job.

Trust me, when Maco says "$250 complete kings service bla bla bla" the paint you get is extremely thin and complete crap.

Just got the Porsche back from a full transaxle rebuild... replace 1st and 2nd gear (inc. synchro gears and bearings), replace mainshaft bearings and oil seals, replace differential pinion bearing, new clutch, new dual mass flywheel, new rear main seal.

Gear changes feel like butter again, it doesn't whine like a banshee on the gas and grind on over run, and I can use more than 10% throttle without the clutch slipping :D

I'd be even happier if there wasn't a massive hole in my wallet!

Took the world's worst sound clip of my car in a tunnel. Just sat the phone on the dash as I drove. Crappy sound quality and not much to look at but you get an idea of how good my car sounds. I only do first and a bit of second till I short shift to third. Proper vid will come soon I promise.

Wll probably be stumping up ~ £500 for a new stainless steel exhaust aswell :D

I want my 16 seconds back.

And of course your car sounds good. It has one of the finest L6 screaming under the hood.

Will be getting this exhaust so it should sound like this in a week or so :D

Got my car towed home last night after fighting with the rear end for two months....

Decided to start working on it this morning.

Took my fender off to try and fix an issue with it. I pushed in on it and have to bend it back in shape after.

Found out that it is indeed surface rust, which makes me happy as I planned to keep them in the final look.

Also got my drivers side corner light on, as well my passenger side... sort of, I have to fix the fender issue but I still have it laid in.

Got the sidemarkers in as well.

I'm thinking a drop is next on the to-do list. Eibach's Sport Plus (springs + swaybars) kit.

Big day for me with the Sti, today is the day I write the last check and pay the sucker off. :)

Topped off the oil. My car drinks it like a flippin milkshake.

Also, replaced the fuel filter, which was the hardest job I've ever done on my own car.

Put in an oil pressure gauge. My car has been consuming oil at an alarming rate and the power seems to be dropping during each drive. Signs of impending doom!

Best start saving up for a new engine.

Working on a 1994 5.7 TBI.

The car has been standing still for a couple of months, and now it won't fire up. The engine cranks, but I have no spark, or fuel out the injectors, I've already changed the coil and module, but still, nothing.

Would the pickup coil inside the distributor be the culprit? Does that make sense?

I replaced my windshield a couple of days ago. It already had a crack down the passenger side and couple other rock chips. A truck threw up a large stone on the freeway and hit my windshield, and as I drove, I watched the crack grow. That was the final straw, and I replaced my windshield with a new one.

It's amazing the difference between a really old, pitted windshield and a brand new one. The clarity is very, very nice.

My MR2 would really benefit from a new one. It has lots of really fine scratches that makes driving at night a little bit frustrating.

New O2 sensors and a throttle position sensor. Upcoming are valve seals and some rust repair.

When I first moved here to Washington I was certain my car would fail the safety inspection due to the cracked windshield, $250 later I was set to go only to immediately discover no inspection was required! :dunce:

It is nice to look through although I think I've already got a few chips.

Nope, no inspections; all there is a check to make sure the car is not stolen, and that it passes emission if it's under 25 years old and you live in certain high population density areas.

My car just turned 25 years old; I can spew as much crap as I want out of my exhaust and it's completely legal.

It helps at night, but it really helps during sunset and it's raining.

What brand did you get? I know cheap glass can be awful. Our Cherokee had to have the windshield replaced years ago, and I think we made them change it out at least two times because it was wavy.
