What have you done to your car today?

Bought it.

2001 Passat GLS 1.8T/5-speed. 133k on it, body isn't perfect (right rear quarter needs a bit of help but it isn't massive damage), it has a few VW gremlins, needs the timing belt done, etc etc. All said though, for 2 grand it was a pretty good bite.

Basically a little bit of a tune up then. Sounds like a good deal.

LED map lights and replaced the courtesy light with a 16-LED matrix :D superbright!

My car seems to have an identity crisis. First it sounds like a normal 240, then a bung shoots out of my header, making it sound like a lawn mower. Get that fixed, and it decides it's not happy with the 240sx sound so I went to start her up and now she is a WRX.
Went to buy new spark plugs, and she waits until after I buy them to get back to normal, lol. No idea why a spark plug decided not to work and all of a sudden fire up while driving.
But at least I got those replaced, they looked like they needed it. Also changed the oil, surprised I had as much as I did in there, its been burning oil like crazy.

Also I have just bought something fun to put on her to add to her identity crisis. Maybe by next weekend I can get this done and get some pics.

Wash and dry, a ton of T-Cut, Dturbo badges now on the front grille and tailgate, and no more awful chrome pea shooter exhaust attachment

I need to thoroughly Hammerite my towbar now

This one has been over several days, but instead of posting small updates, why not post them all in a GIANT POST!

My new MC40 had some pretty bad scuffs on the wheels, and 3 of them were bent. Along with some nasty tire wear I decided to get the wheels sorted while purchasing new tires. The brake light also came on, so I bought some Brembo rotors.

Started converting a 1988 Yamaha RZ350 from race spec back to street spec.
It's relatively simple being a vintage bike, but there are so many wires to find and connect.

(Plus trying to find all the little parts that were removed a year ago and thrown in a box.)

At the same time I'm going to have to program the quickshifter for the ZX6.
It'll be nice once it's finally in and done though, flatout upshifts. No clutch, no rolling off the gas.

Installed a RKE-1. Now to find remote batteries that aren't 16 years old.

I will update the cars thread later today, if I get to it.

Decided to take some actual photos of it after giving it a wash and applying some decals I had hoarded. It's so clean!

Holy crap, that is clean!

Getting rid of the black one?

Getting rid of the black one?

Yes and no. The black one will be donating bits to the new one, such as the front and rear bumpers, grille, hood, spoiler, interior, headunit (I want my aux port), wheels, and eventually the engine and trans once I get them rebuilt. The new one is only an LS, where as the black one is the Sport Sedan trim.

Did this last week.

Added Blue footwell LEDs which are activated via sidelights lights.

Also DKX that is not really clean.

Try a De-tar, de-iron then a clay.

you will be shocked at all the embedded crap that is still on the paint.

I'm pretty sure by 'clean' he means tidy/complete/unmolested. :P

This is what he means

anyway, I put SE wheels on my 240SX today. I'm painting the Teardrops that are on it right now. I like these wheels a LOT, but they have crap tires so I probably won't be doing much driving with these wheels.

Recent projects...

First, I attempted to fix my messed up paint on my own. I've never done any kind of detail work, so getting an orbital polisher and going at my car's body was nerve wracking... for the first few seconds, until I realized how awesome this tool is. I don't know if it was just a poor clear coat in that section or what, but most of this side of the car was really dull and you could pick away at it to find the good paint underneath. I forgot to take a Before photo, but the problem is pretty obvious in this old photo I have. The break is still faintly visible from some angles, and I'll keep going at it every now and then, but I'm much less embarrassed driving around in the thing.

Project 2 (*ed. - 'complete' photo posted) is re-painting my oil pan. After looking into colors that reflect and expel heat well, I initially started out with silver. Then I went to buy more paint and saw the orange, which matches the cam gears I'm getting. It's a "Burnt Copper" metallic. Now that I'm done with it, it's looking too cool! I'm not going crazy with colors in my bay, but this little accent looks nice I think.

Cleaned the engine bay down a little, applied massive amounts of T-cut and trim wax, and showed it off!

Nobody suspects the dirty diesel...

I gave my car a quick wash yesterday and vacuumed it to get it ready for the E30 Picnic today.

Of course, I get up this morning and some cat had walked all over my car, leaving paw prints all over it. :irked:

I opened the door to get something and shut it.

A rather large pile of rust flew everywhere.

Picked up some Tein HR coilovers for free from a buddy. They need to be rebuilt and probably won't fit my Legacy since they're off his Evo 4, but they're nice to look at!

Did some dyno tuning on Friday on my brother's 09 Saturn Sky. Mods are 3 bar map sensors, K&N drop in filter and Magnaflow CAT back. It was stupid hot, like 120* out and we were having spark drop up top because of IAT after the turbo at over 170* due to the length of the pulls. The butt dyno results far out way the actual numbers it put down it builds boost much quicker and pulls way harder in the mid range. Unfortunately I cannot get in to the auto trans to make changes to that at this point, but maybe some day....

15% increase in peak torque and 8% increase in peak horsepower (11% INCREASE @ 5666 RPM) through tuning with HPTuners over the GMPP tune. I am trying to get him to move to an E85 blend due to the heat in Phoenix so we can run more timing only 8* actual advance up top on these pulls. Also the resolution for setting the A/F isnt all that great on the PCM, but I am sure I can even it out in time.

Since I just purchased a 2004 BLUE Subaru Impreza WRX I have been doing quite a bit lately. But I will just list what I did on it last night. All the rest you can read in my WRX thread in the members ride section here.

Before. It came with painted john deer green hella horns. Yuck.

After. Removed 16 nuts and bolts along with the front grill to primer and paint the horns flat black.

The Camaro and Mustang are actually hiding behind the Subaru in this pic. :)

Also started to detail the interior after removing the stereo that came with the car. I have quite a bit of work to do the next week or so.
