I kind of liked it. Live action version of a Japanese manga, filmed by the Chinese sounds like a disaster in the making, but considering, not bad.Initial D: This is the live action version of the popular comic and animation series, it does well to portray its heritage, but the let down was the driving scenes, I wont lie the big draw for me was this particualr aspect, and its was pants, they should have drafted in the guy who did the driving scenes in Ronin or something as the scenes were poor. Direction was a little weird and script fell to peices, but all round a bit of a dull egg, but still watchable. 5/10
Yeah... I couldn't get over Chinese trying to do Initial D and drifting...
Speaking of Initial D... I found a bunch of d/ls for the animated series (I have them on VHS but they have subtitles). Unfortunately, they are dubbed for the US and everyone sounds Getto or retarted. I hate how other contries think they have to dummy down everything for us but at the same time I can understand it.
Initial D: The Movie
Seriously great movie. I just worked out that F&F:TD is kinda a cheap copy of it. Great storyline and characters.
9.5/10
Just finished watching that yesterday it was awesome and I agree with your score. I'm hoping for a sequel.
I thought Chapman To as Itsuki Tachibana was brilliant, brought in some great funny segments.
He meets a gorgeous young woman (Scarlett Johannson)
Saw Mission Impossible 3 in the weekend. Good movie, but not better than pat 1 and 2
Score: 7.5/10
I watched Lost In Translation last night. Sort of film you have to be in the right mood for... nothing too dramatic or challenging, either intellectually or emotionally. An easy-going, funny film - pretty low key story about a guy (Bill Murray) having a mid-life crisis, a washed up actor making adverts for Japanese whiskey, holed up in a posh hotel in Tokyo. He meets a gorgeous young woman (Scarlett Johannson) who's young husband is a high-flier photographer who is inadvertently neglecting his gorgeous wife. (I found myself shouting 'YOU FOOL!' at the telly as SJ struggles for his attention, even as she is sitting in her underwear ) Anyway, I found myself thinking that this film is every midlife-crisis-man's fantasy - meeting a hot, young woman to be a sort of father figure to... if it wasn't so well acted by Bill Murray, this character could have easily become very dislikable very quickly, but Murray carries it off brilliantly. Not the most exciting film I've ever seen, but a worth 7/10 anyway. Won't be buying the DVD, though...
Jeez, turn the sound off man!Scarlett Johannson's man-voice is too much for me... I simply can't find her attractive because of it.
I watched this one two weekends ago. It's good but the story is a little weird. People understanding what the penguins want by watching them tap dance? That just didn't cut it for me.I saw Happy Feet for the first time last night.
Really good animation, great humour throughout the film (the amigos are awesome) and a nice story too.
Strong 9/10
It's good to know I'm not the only one that didn't find this all that great. I was turned off pretty quickly when it became definite propoganda and it was suddenly no longer cute or funny. Then the people were actual, filmed actors, not animated and it just pulled me out of the story as the images clashed. I went from, "wow, this is good CGI," to, "wow, compared to actual filmed footage this is looks cartoonish."I watched this one two weekends ago. It's good but the story is a little weird. Yeah, they should've made it all CGI imo. It's good to know I'm not the only one that didn't find this all that great.
