Curse of the golden flower - very good chinese epicy thing. I prefered Hero & Flying Daggers. But this is much better than crouching tiger.
8/10

A Good Year - Nothing special, but has really nice, laid back mood to it. Really beautiful setting, a chateau on a French countryside. I guess I just enjoyed the scenery. ;) "B-"

Blood Diamond - It did just about everything "OK", but I think it was overrated. IMO, good rental, nothing more. "C+"

Shooter - It was WAY better than I expected it to be! I would recommend that you go out and see it. It has a lot of guns and explosions and for me it reinforced my want to be a sniper :)

Armour Of God. Some old 1987 movie with Jackie Chan. Cheaply been converted to English but other than that, great movie 👍
7.5/10

I Watched Mission Impossible 1 on BD, Crank & Initial D.

MI1: Not the best spy movie, but its ok and Im a small fan of Tom, Picture is a bil of a let down compared to some of the BD movies ive watched, the picture was soft and colour a little over saturated, but seeing as this is not a review of the disk... Anyway it is a slow burner of a film and never really takes off to any pace, this really could have been a great movie, but the supporting cast and poor scrip left the story of MI and idea a long way back in the past. 4/10

Crank: I was very suprised how much I liked this film, im a big fan of the Transporter movies, and htis is no exception, mindless violance and good stunts make this a film for all the family. Sex scene was very funny, even my mom who had just walked in the door at that particular moment gave out a laugh too. good fun all round. 8/10

Initial D: This is the live action version of the popular comic and animation series, it does well to portray its heritage, but the let down was the driving scenes, I wont lie the big draw for me was this particualr aspect, and its was pants, they should have drafted in the guy who did the driving scenes in Ronin or something as the scenes were poor. Direction was a little weird and script fell to peices, but all round a bit of a dull egg, but still watchable. 5/10

One Hour Photo. This is a film I hadn't seen until I bought it on DVD recently, very psycological, suprisingly creepy and I thought Robin Williams was fantastic playing the nut.

I liked the One Hour Photo, too. Got good reviews, but did not equal commercial success. Damn shame!

I kind of liked it. Live action version of a Japanese manga, filmed by the Chinese sounds like a disaster in the making, but considering, not bad.

Yeah... I couldn't get over Chinese trying to do Initial D and drifting...

Speaking of Initial D... I found a bunch of d/ls for the animated series (I have them on VHS but they have subtitles). Unfortunately, they are dubbed for the US and everyone sounds Getto or retarted. I hate how other contries think they have to dummy down everything for us but at the same time I can understand it.

I totally agree, but here in the UK we tend to get Asian films with the original soundtrack so I just watch it with that and subtitles, the only films I like that have been dubbed are Jackie Chan movies, because of the obviously bad dubbing they make them more appealing and funny.

Edit: forgot to add I watched Spawn last nigh, and what a poor film. I dont think ive been more diasapointed with a film, I watched this on first release as a rental and must have thought it was good, but after watching it again, I can see this film gathering dust in my collection. 3/10

iRobot - 8/10 After stopping at Fry's to look at all the HDtvs as I drooled all over myself I was inspired to watch it again because that's what they were playing. Second go was actually better too, especially since I'm not really a Will Smith fan. Again though... I'd rather have my primitive M$ pos then an intelligent feelingless robot. :dopey:

edit:

Children of Men - 5/10 I heard this hyped up and that it was good but frankly, I barely made it though the first part without snoozing. Then find out at the end I'd been used. My friend pointed out this by saying it's Waterworld without water... which in turn bumped my rating down a point. :dopey:

Initial D: The Movie
Seriously great movie. I just worked out that F&F:TD is kinda a cheap copy of it. Great storyline and characters.
9.5/10

The Good Shepherd - This movie got slammed by a lot of people for being too realistic. "If CIA was really this boring...". Give me a break.

Its' realism is what made this film special for me. If you thought that Matt Damon in this film was supposed to be a Karate Master of some sort, then you have WAY missed the point. Actress like Angelina Jolie looked out of place in this film, because she, along with few other actors, were just outclassed. Casting was bit weak, overall. Too bad, because I thought the direction was excellent. And who was the director again?..... Robert.... De Niro????? Has he directed any films before? I have no idea, but after seeing The Good Shepherd, I hope he direct a lot more. "A"

Children of Men - This film had little bit of 28 days later-ness to it, which I really liked. Direction, especially on action sequence were really well done. The showstopper was Michael Caine though. We all know he is one of the all time greats, but the character he played in this film was little different than the one's I usually see him play.

I don't know if Children of Men was the best film of the year, but it has earned the right to contend for it IMO. Bit generous "A-"

P.S. Waterworld was kind of fun......

I saw The Departed a few days ago, very good movie but I think Colin should have lived...

I also saw 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Trying It didnt hurt that much, only cringed a few times:) Nah seriously, it wasnt a bad movie like everyone says.

Just finished watching that yesterday it was awesome and I agree with your score. I'm hoping for a sequel.

I thought Chapman To as Itsuki Tachibana was brilliant, brought in some great funny segments.

The 'girlfriend' thing with Natsuki fitted very well into the story line too :)

I watched Lost In Translation last night. Sort of film you have to be in the right mood for... nothing too dramatic or challenging, either intellectually or emotionally. An easy-going, funny film - pretty low key story about a guy (Bill Murray) having a mid-life crisis, a washed up actor making adverts for Japanese whiskey, holed up in a posh hotel in Tokyo. He meets a gorgeous young woman (Scarlett Johannson) who's young husband is a high-flier photographer who is inadvertently neglecting his gorgeous wife. (I found myself shouting 'YOU FOOL!' at the telly as SJ struggles for his attention, even as she is sitting in her underwear  ) Anyway, I found myself thinking that this film is every midlife-crisis-man's fantasy - meeting a hot, young woman to be a sort of father figure to... if it wasn't so well acted by Bill Murray, this character could have easily become very dislikable very quickly, but Murray carries it off brilliantly. Not the most exciting film I've ever seen, but a worth 7/10 anyway. Won't be buying the DVD, though...

I saw it yesterday too, I thought it was great, Ive seen it before though. Its a good movie to watch late at night it has that relaxed kind of feel to it...

Latest Netflix rentals:

1) Rocky Balboa (8/10): Yep, all my predictions were wrong. This actually is good. Slow to start but good overall. Congrats to Sly.

2) The Holiday (7/10): Well, once again I was surprised. As romantic comedies go it was decent. I don't suggest renting it unless you want a romantic comedy, but the writing and acting weren't as bad as the usual (except for Cameron Diaz). Jack Black seemed like a typical Jack Black character, only he remembered his ritalin. The glory was stolen by the side story featuring an elderly, retired, oscar-winning screenwriter who is a Hollywood legend, but believes that Hollywood left him behind and forgot about him years ago. I believe it was this side story that really kept me interested. As a classic movie buff I found myself agreeing with the opinions the old man had of current day Hollywood.

Saw Mission Impossible 3 in the weekend. Good movie, but not better than pat 1 and 2

Score: 7.5/10

I Watched this last night, and I personally though this blew Parts 1 & 2 away, but the BD version which I watched, is the best picture ive seen yet, this was stunning. I did do a quick test when I first got the BD versions of all three, and the third film came out as the best quality, but I may even post some pics of this running on the 46X2000 just to show how great the picture is on this BD movie. I do agree with the score tho. MI 1 & 2 would get 41/2/10 each, good but other films are better.

One of my all time great movies, love this film.

Watched Fearless too the other day, great fim and very heartfelt, which most action/martial arts movies arnt. Shame its Jet Li's final martial arts film.

I saw Happy Feet for the first time last night.
Really good animation, great humour throughout the film (the amigos are awesome) and a nice story too.
Strong 9/10

I watched this one two weekends ago. It's good but the story is a little weird. People understanding what the penguins want by watching them tap dance? That just didn't cut it for me.

It's good to know I'm not the only one that didn't find this all that great. I was turned off pretty quickly when it became definite propoganda and it was suddenly no longer cute or funny. Then the people were actual, filmed actors, not animated and it just pulled me out of the story as the images clashed. I went from, "wow, this is good CGI," to, "wow, compared to actual filmed footage this is looks cartoonish."

Yeah, they should've made it all CGI imo.
