i don't recall any hand-cam shots, which is odd since they usually make me sea sick and one of the reasons i won't be watching Cloverfield any time soon.

I did watch TBU on a small screen, which i suppose lesses the chance of any vomit-inducing situations.

I almost had to leave the theater. Almost every shot is a hand-cam.

Stardust 2/10

Bleh....

All I can say is that there's almost nothing here for adults. This is a kid's movie through and through. Not a horrible one for children, but there's a limited audience. In an age when so many movies seem to concentrate on offering something for both children and parents, this one seems to have not gotten the memo.

Even if your kids are watching it, I recommend leaving the room.
I enjoyed it thoroughly - as did the wife and both kids (14 and 11 at the time). Then again, we're all big Neil Gaiman fans, and we'd read the original illustrated novella first. But I liked it a lot. Actually, I thought DeNiro's performance was the weakest, though it was funny in a simple way.

Maybe I've just come to expect more from a kid's movie because I've been spoiled by Nemo, Increadibles, and the like. The plot was absolutely paper thin. And at times it seemed like they were saying "Meh, you don't have to act this scene all that well. It's just for kids. They won't know the difference." It had no structure of any kind in terms of the universe or what people were capable of magically (though Potter was worse about that). Generally I felt that it was just a movie full of fun little cliche's that would appeal to children.

DeNiro's performance was actually quite weak - even though the character was fun.

I didn't notice it until you mentioned it a while back. Then when I watched a short part from the movie, I found it to be pretty annoying but bearable at the same time.

It's quite possibly the shakiest movie I've ever seen. Followed closely by I Am Legend.

And I've heard that all the shaking in Cloverfield is right at the start - after the first 5 minutes it settles down into a normal movie. Here's hoping!

ROFL.... tree'd...

I watched "What Women Want" last night and was actually pleasantly surprised by it... genuinely funny - but you had to be in the mood for it, I suppose...

The BBC announcer at the end of the movie stole the show though... just as the ending credits rolled up, and the music starts playing, it fades out slightly and the guy said "What Men want... Match of the Day is on BBC1 at 10:35, after the News..."

That's the Mel Gibson + Helen Hunt movie, right? I watched it a long time ago, I remember having some good laughs with it.

Well watched:

Tales From Earthsea - Really enjoyed this film from start to finish, one thing to note however the disk is badly encoded and on the PS3 I had audio drop out and also framrate problems, and ive tried everything to make it work on the PS3 but its doesn't like it otherwise fantastic. ****/*****

Princess Mononoke - Again like Earthsea i really enjoyed the film and also like the earthsea disk i had some problems with audio and framerate. ****/*****

Life - I love this film, great story if a little bitter sweet. good fun all round movie. ***/*****

I remember that movie. I thought it was quite enjoyable, and funny. :)
I'll be seeing The Eye tomorrow. Will post my thoughts tomorrow night.

No Country For Old Men - This film was great, great acting and better dialogue. Some of the conversation particularly one which Chiegur (I think that's how you spell it) in a pertrol station talking to the own was brilliant. The film is quite violent but it's not over the top in your face gore left, it's kept to a realistic level. I do think te film was great but the ending wasn't what I expected and it didn't feel very in line with the rest of the film, I kind of lost concentration abit during the last 15 mins, but the rest of the film was amazing.

Gone baby gone

Great movie with interesting story about honesty. and surprise ending...
btw I guess its Ben Affleck's first directed movie

American Gangster 8/10 the only thing that let me down was the slow pacing in the first half but after that it picked up and it was a really good movie. Favorite Scene: When Frank gets arrested at the end

Trainspotting 9/10 Brillant Drug film with some really trippy scenes. Favorite scene: Either Worst toilet in scotland OR the withdrawl where hes in bed having hallucinations

Scarface 10/10 WOW is really all i can say after watching this for the first time. I dont have to say more due to the fact that this is a classic. Favorite Scene: either "say hello to my little friend!" OR just after Lopez is killed by Tony and the Blimp goes past with the words "The World Is Yours"

Atlantic City (1980)... this movie had some sort of Cannes/Sundance-like people's award. Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon... It's one of those comedy/action/suspense/thriller/oddity-type of movie. Enjoyable, simple plot and very 70-ish. 7/10.

Blue Velvet (1986)... so I did the unthinkable and watched another David Lynch flick. This one was actually watchable, and I was able to follow the plot to the end. Still, nothing to celebrate. 6.5/10

Cloverfield (15) - 10/10

I loved it, from start till end, I was fully engrossed. The story itself was a bit lame, the acting wasn't stellar, but jesus christ, I felt like I was there, and thats hardly achieved in my eyes. One last thing, to prove how extreme this film is, at the cinema, I have to WARN people about Motion Sickness and how loud certain parts are. Hells yeah!

Sweeny Todd (18) - 6/10

I didn't find this too bad at all, my fears of Depp singing soon became realised but I eventually got used to it. The way the film has been shot is good, a grim, dark London always sets the mood. Plus, enough blood to satisfy even the most die-hard Saw fan.

Alien vs Predator: Requiem (15) - 2/10

Better than the first, but thats hardly an achievement. Please just drop this dead donkey already..

I forgot to post my thoughts last night like I said I would, but I did see The Eye. And I liked it much better than the original. I loved the fact it was also 1 of those thrillers that need over-hyped blood. Lots of the images are disturbing and I did cringe at the ending scene. :scared:

8.7/10.

Epic Movie - 4/10 Stupid movie. But, at least it had a relatively cute redhead who didn't wear panties yet wore a short mini skirt.

AVP 2 - it was imensly terrible. Reminded me of House of the dead, soo bad its laughably watchable and entertaining. I actually liked the 1st AVP, but this is just (entertaining) crap.
5/10

No Country for old men - Brilliant film until the last 30 mins and i nearly fell asleep, which i have never done at the cinema (although my mate did in Syriana).
7/10

Cloverfield - very engrossing for the most part, the bit were there in the middle of the army shooting at the thing was seriously intense. but a crap opening and alot of daftness prevent it rom getting anything more than.
8/10

And with regard to the shakey cam thing, i thought it would annoy the hell out of me as i cannot stand when they used it in action sequences in films (Bourne!!!) but it didnt bother me at all in this. The camera work is less shakey than in the Bourne fights actually, which makes me wonder what the hell the guy was doing while filming Matt Damons Ultimatum.
And i dont recally any shakey cam in I Am Legend, but i guess i must've been so engrossed in it i didn't notice, loved it!

I got completely bored during Syriana. But I felt the same thing about No country, it was fantastic up until near the end.

Shortly after Llewelyn gets killed the file just sort of stalls on nothing.

I bought myself a DVD player for my birthday... one that plays Divx, so I can watch all those movies I've downloaded lately, since I despise watching movies on the PC. Anyhow, I saw these today:

Brick (2005)... it's with that girl who plays the Australian on Lost... who used to be pregnant. And with the kid from 3rd Rock from The Sun. Pretty decent indie film, some good acting and intensely violent at times. Some really good, artsy shots here and there. The downside of it is that almost all of the actors seem to talk really low and even mumble at times, so you have to rewind to find out what they're saying. 7.5/10

Bullets or Ballots (1936)... Film Noir flick with Humphrey Bogart. Save for a few side stories that didn't really have much to do except act as fillers, it wasn't half bad. 7/10

I've just watched Zodiac, I bought it on DVD over the weekend, I thought it was very good. It's a true story about a serial killer who calls himself the Zodiac and kills people for fun in the late 60's and 70's. It's a case that was never officially solved, the film points you well and truely into the direction of one of the suspects as does the real life accounts, all except for one piece of evidence discovered more recently. The ending as a result of it following the facts is a little bit open, there's no grand finale shootout between the good guys and the bad. The film was definitely worth a watch and a worth addition to my DVD collection.

I watched "Shoot em up" this evening.
Its John Woo, meets chuck norris's favourite gun, meets rush hour, meets Max Payne's worst shoot outs.
Another hour of my life wasted.

Im not sure if it was supposed to be serious or what, but it was shot like it was, but it actually made me laugh out loud with the high level of ridiculousness. (is that even a word? is this even a film?)

I suppose i should have realised that this wasnt a high calibre film, when the lead actor (deadly serious the whole time) killed the first bad guy of about 1,500 dead bad guys, with a half eaten carrot. (yes folx, that is the truth, i saw him die)

Later, whilst chewing another carrot, he was heard to say "What's up doc?"

And they charge you money to rent these films?

I tried to get it back (my money) but i got to the store at 3 mins to closing, and they had locked the door already.

If however, you like a no holds barred, shoot em up (ahhhhh thats where they got the name) thats as blummin stupid as it is intelligent, and you want to see Monica Belluci in the buff, then go waste some money, and prepare the tissues for the "crying with incredulity" moments.
