Was Halle Berry in Sin City? Or were you thinking of Rosario Dawson?(much hotter)
I don't know. May have been, but I thought it looked a lot like her.
The original comic is like that, so the fact that the movie is filmed like that makes it even better, and more 'faithful' to the comic. The colour parts I think were to give more emphasis to certain scenes.

Taken from Sin City - Hell and Back-A Sin City Love Story #1
Well, that explains a lot then. 👍
I take it that's why a Sin City 2 & 3 will be done, now. Maybe I'll look more into to the comic.

Really? I stopped enjoying Almodovar's films a long time ago. The moment I realised all his characters were either transvestites, prostitutes, closet gays or a sweet, innocent girl trapped in all of that...
We have different taste in films though, and are also exposed to very different types of films growing up too, I bet. I pretty much grew up watching mainstream Japanese-European-American films(mix some Gundam stuff in there, too :D), and didn't really get into actual foreign films(you know, the artsy ones), or independent films until maybe early 90's.

I actually agree with your criticism of Almodovar's films. But you gotta admit, like his work or not, he is a quality filmmaker. Yes, he does seem to stick with what he's comfortable with, and I don't see him venturing out of his bubble, but I'm OK with that. When a director like Doug Liman directs couple of my favorite films from the "Swingers"(low budget/indy) to "Bourne Identity", I am amazed by his capable range of filmmaking. But at the same time, I do like directors who are into sticking to his unique style, and be very good at it. Kurosawa comes to mind. Great director with his feudal Japan samurai flicks, but outside it, his films either didn't have the same magic, or were just plain..... average. There were few exceptions of course like "Ikiru", and couple of cop/drama stuff I loved, too.
I think the last one I saw was All About my Mother, which although good, I didn't feel it was well worth the $5 I paid at the movie theatre to see it. From that movie on I started hating Pe Cruz... she whines a lot.
I really liked that one, though I'm ashamed to say that I can't remember that much from it. :ouch: You are probably right about Penelope(yeah, you are right), but boy, the magic of subtitles. :P

Was it her?

Gawd. Ever since MIB2...... :D

Not surprisingly, one of my favourite directors is David Fincher, so you can kind of decipher a bit about my personality by that.

Just saw:

K-PAX (2001) -- I really, really have always liked this movie. I saw it for the first time with my girlfriend (now my wife) when we were sort of living together in NYC, and it's become one of our favourite movies of all time. Especially since it has Jeff Bridges, although he'll forever be The Dude for me :D 8.5/10

I'm also currently watching a 1930s masterpiece, starring a very young Jimmy Stewart... I've always been kinda turned off by most of the older movies comedy, but this one has had me laughing out loud a couple of times. More on that one after I see it to the end, probably tomorrow.

@McLaren: If you want to find parts of the movie in the Sin City comics, be sure to check out the series called Babe Wore Red and The Hard Good-Bye. Although if you're really getting into these comics, you'll find that many of their sub-series are featured in more or less quantity throughout the movie.

Yep. She just looked like Berry in the movie to me. But she is a hottie. 👍

I'll be sure to do that then, since the story was pretty interesting. 👍
Might even watch it again, tomorrow.

Red Dragon - I hadn't seen this one in a while. The cast is LOADED!. Ed Norton, Harvey Keitel, Ralph Fiennes, Emily Watson, Phil Seymour Hoffman AND Anthony Hopkins. It was little bit better than I remembered it, too. Not a classic that Silence of the Lambs was, but pretty good thriller/suspense flick. "B-"

Top Gun - Now, this one I hadn't seen in years. I've loved this flick since I was twelve, but after watching it this evening, I still consider this one of my favorite movies. The cast, cinematography, soundtrack, story, the (aerial)action.... and those frickin F-14s! I have the second DVD release that came out 3, 4 years ago(and I didn't watch it until tonight  ), and the quality is awesome. It has DTS surround! 👍 "A+"

Yeah, right. Have you met anybody who doesn't like his films? :D

Office Space

Oh sure, I'd seen all the ads for it, but never actually watched it. It hadn't interested me, and I didn't think I'd like it.

Then a colleague raved on about it no end, and said that anyone that works in an office should watch it.

So, mostly to shut him up, I watched it.

Shouldn't have.

The first 5-10 minutes were what I expected (👍), little jokes about working in an office environment and the inanity of it all. But then, when it gets into the proper story about stealing the money, I wanted the jokes to come back.

It was totally sold to me as something it wasn't. I think the funniest bit was right at the start with 'Michael Bolton' gangsta rapping in his car, then turning it down and locking the door when a black man walks past.

Yep. My wife. And her sister.

Of course, they both think Legally Blonde is insanely awesome and can't understand why there hasn't been yet another sequel.

^wow...

Anyway,

Eastern Promises - 5/10

My best friend was just finishing up and luckily for me... I got there right at the good part. :grumpy: Anyway, I prefer a fight scene with CLOTHES ON... The other parts (no pun intended) I could've gone without. I gave it half even though I didn't see it all, I got the gist of it... Oh and Naomi Watts is hot.

+1. I watched it cause I kept hearing folks talk about it. It was decent, but not a movie I'd want to watch over and over.

Jennifer Aniston was a cutie, though. 👍

Office Space "clicked" with me perfectly since it was a perfect reflection of my old bank network analyst job. All of the little annoyances, as seen in Office Space, really add up to a depressing experience.

Well I had to post my impressions of my 3 BD movies this week.

Ok First up:

Disney - Pixar Shorts Vol 1.

I have to give credit where credit is due and Pixar are fantastic, but after watching Pixar's shorts from start to finish you can really appreciate the time and effort that Pixar go to when creating one of the films. Although the picture quality is a let down for the first four shorts (even though they have been cleaned up allot) they are still far from the reference quality I've seen but once you head into the others ,you really see what HD is all about. For some entertainment and a good history lesson this disk is a must for any Pixar or animation fan who has a 1080p display.

Next:

Disney - Pixar Cars

WOW!! if anything going sum up this film in HD its that. From start to finish you are captivated by the story, the characters and the world in which they come from. This was the first time I've seen this film and I have to say that I'm glad I waited to get the BD version. Now watching this for the first time in HD I was blown away, if there is a movie you need to show off you home cinema this has to be at the top of the list. If you don't want to own it then rent it.

Last but not least:

Disney - Pixar Ratatouille

Like Cars This film is good, story characters and world all complete and fun. For me this film looks even better than Cars, but not the transfer but the actual CG, its sumptuous and colourful and so much 3D pop you just want to touch the screen to see if they are real. Like Cars do yourself a favour and your home cinema some justice and see this BD movie.

I hate to bring this up, but....

What was the whole point of the beginning scenes? I just saw him kill the woman in the red dress for no reason, and then follow the other girl (that you see later) into the elevator.

I thought the first kill was just an introduction to the viewers. Establish who Hartnett character was, and also gave the film an nice look, opening with a kill, ending with one. No special detail on who the victim was.

On the elevator kill, are you talking about the girl who sold the gang out, and got rubbed by Josh Hartnett in the end?

Yes, although I didn't realize she was killed. I thought she ran off after hiding in under the wall.

If I remember correctly, she did ran off. Then she pops up in hospital, on a payphone talking to her mom, possibly telling her that she's coming home or something touching like that. Then she gets in the elevator, but the doctor who ended up in the elevator with her is actually Hartnett, who we assume was hired to kill her for her betrayal.

That was a really cool ending, I thought.

Oh, cool. It's one of those movies with the ending at the beginning in a way. 👍

I've ordered The Hard Goodbye & That Yellow Bastard as well. I hope the stories aren't affected by reading the books out of sequence.

Well, I just got done watching We Own the Night. It was by far the best movie I've seen in a long time. The car chase in the rain kept me on my seat the whole time. I'd definately give it a 9.5/10. 👍

Stir of Echoes - 7.5/10

I was prepared for disappointment, but it was a pretty good thriller/horror/mystery. I would say it leans more towards the thriller side, which is good since I don't like horror movies.

War - 7.5/10
Since seeing The Transporter films I'm a fan of Jason Statham in the action genre and whereas I think this has less action than Transporter this is still quite decent.

I must see that now.

Holes - 9/10
Great movie, but better if you've read the book first. Really enjoyed it even though its a "kiddy" movie.

I saw the worst movie I have ever seen in my life on Wednesday....

Meet the Spartans 0/10

Why I didnt switch off after the first 5mins but continued watching for another hour remains a mystery.....

Wasn't it obvious that it was going to be a load of trash from the trailers? :yuck:
