I think it's stupid how they release the same movie in different regions with different names. :indiff:

Happens all the time. If you go into IMDb.com and look at the AKA parts in each movie, you'll see how it's called in different regions. I came to realise Peter Jackson's Dead Alive was also called Braindead, and a lot of people had seen it under that title and constantly spoke about it, and I had no idea what they were on about. :indiff:

Just saw

The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) -- Kind of a new twist on an old story. The twist it proposes is quite interesting, to say the truth. All that about Jesus marrying Mary Magdalene, having a bunch of kids. I remember when I was about 12 and this movie came out, that a lot of people were upset by it, and I can see that happening, since Jesus is presented as someone who threatens the traditional beliefs. But then again, it deals with the fact that Jesus, although allagedly being the son of God, was also human, and as such would have the same doubts, insecurities and all the implications he should have. Here's is a Jesus who's struggling to deny his importance and trying to live the life of a normal person. Good storyline, good view into the 'psyche' of Jesus, and good fictional story... too bad religious pricks thoght it was sacrilege and thought Scorcese and Kazantzakis were trying to propose this as the actual truth. 7.5/10.

Jumper - 6/10

Saw this whilst at work on it's first day of release, and by the time it finished, I could tell a sequal is gonna happen, it's basically all action with very little backround information past the main character. For example, I was left wondering how the ability existed, or his first 'jump'.

Hayden Christensen was average, completly out-performed by Jamie Bell (Although that could be down to his role). Sam Jackson was alright, deffinatley not his finest performance.

The special effects were as expected in this age of film but the action sequences were fun. All in all on entertainment value, it's not half bad, I just think the script and the acting could have been better.

Oh just remembered.

V For Vendetta - 10/10

How have I not seen this before tonight?! A brilliant film, filled with brilliant performances by a brilliant cast. I can't think of one negative.

hang your head in SHAME!!!!! V is a wicked movie

Сталкер (Stalker) (1979) -- Sci-fi movie with very little sci and a lot of fi. I heard great reviews on this one and I was actually a bit disappointed. Having seen Solyaris recently and seeing that this one is in the IMDb Top 250 (at #191), I was expecting a lot. Maybe the meaning was too deep and I wasn't patient enough... scenes are reeeeaaaalllyyy long and there's endless amounts of dialogue (in Russian) and not a lot going on, unless you're digging deep into the semantics of the words... which I wasn't. 6/10.

20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) -- 50s Sci-Fi movie about an alien creature that terrorises a city (Rome in this one)... need I say more? Horribly faked Italian accents, except for the love interest of the star, who although supposed to be Italian, speaks perfectly fluent English... oh well, on a positive note, it's a Harryhausen classic. 6/10.

I finally watched Knocked Up with some mates last night - truth to be told, I thought it was a boring movie. I feel asleep probably about an hour++ into the movie. There were a few funny moments thanks to the witty dialogue, but overall I'm pretty disappointed.

4/10

The Exterminating Angel

A film by Luis Bunuel.

Very interesting. A strange sureal look at what happens when high society is made to fend for themselves. Strange film, as with all of Bunuels' work. Although, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

;)

Next - Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore and Jessica Biel
It is a great action thriller yet funny at the same time. It somewhat picks up the inspiration from other action movies, but the combination makes all believable and cool. I quite enjoyed it.

Vantage point - 9/10

The first half of the movie was rather tedious, with the "rewinding" 4 or 5 times to get every view from each main story-thread. But it was very necessary. There was sooo much stuff going on in this movie, if you left for 5 minutes, you'd be desperately lost. The latter half of the movie was brilliant I must say. A great car chase scene, right up there with Bullitt and Vanishing Point. (Vantage Point? Vanishing Point? Yay for coincidences!)
And the ending where Dennis Quaid/Agent Barnes ends up saving the president... Magnificent
It was amazing. Would recommend to friends and family alike.

Delphic's back...... 👍

I saw(get ready for this...):
Battlefield Earth - Everybody told me this film was crap. I saw it on VHS loooong time ago, and as a Sci Fi buff, I thought I'd probably like to have it on DVD. Not so much. "D"

The Brave One - Jodie Foster is the new Harrison Ford. OK, maybe not quite, but they both used to be good, now they are just plain silly on screen.

This film could've been pretty good. I thought the relationship between the cop, Jodie Foster, and her boyfriend(Sayid from Lost) had to be convincingly real to sell this movie. They tried, but not even close. And without it, I thought it was an extremely boring film. "D-"

I agree. I actually preferred Solyaris (which I own.) I really wanted to like Stalker (saw it on IMDB list as well), but it just didn't do it for me, as much.

Delphic's back......

That's right. Delphic's back. Back again. Delphic's back. Go tell a friend.

;)

Welcome back Delphic... are you going to spam the drift forums again?

Anyway, I saw two classics today:

Cannibal Holocaust (1980) -- Utter crap. The movie's a gore classic, and the storyline was kind of a blueprint of many horror films of today, and I can see it being a cult classic for such a group. But the movie is vomitively violent and scenes tend to drag much longer than the scene should be. Also, one thing I kind of appreciate of newer movies is that whenever an animal is killed, you can see it's fake; I mean, it's fairly obvious it's a doll or a stuffed animal. In this movie seven animals (a coatimundi, a turtle, a spider, a snake, two squirrel monkeys, and a pig) were actually killed for the camera. The monkey scene had to be filmed twice, so even though only one is seen dying, two were killed. :( 4/10

Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke (1978) -- Great way to make me erase some memories from Holocaust. There are awesome lines in this movie, but it never stops being a low-budget weed movie that goes nowhere.

Cheech: "How's my driving?"
(10 second pause)
Chong: Uhh... I think we're parked.

There's a bunch of enjoyable characters Like Tom Skerrit's or Stacey Leach, but they're good for 5 minute segments. As happens with most stoner movies. 6/10

Jumper 8/10

Went and saw it with some mates on the weekend. Pretty entertaining, it was a good film with plenty of action and i found the movie went quite quickly (timewise). the plot wasnt all there though. Yes I too was wondering how he got the ability to jump but all in all i found it was good entertainment and would definitely go and see the sequel.

Resident Evil: extinction - at the cinema i liked this quite alot. I loved Resi 1 and enjoyed 2. I was watching this with me parents. Me mum who likes both of them and my dad who couldnt remember either of them.
I enjoyed it, but my dad (who claims to be inteligent) was asking me questions all the way through it. He couldnt even work out they were cloaning her FFS! So he kind of ruined my enjoyment of it.
But still Milla is so gorgeous. And i cant help but like these films. Role on no.4 :D
7/10

Just thought id say, i thought Jumper was the worst film i have seen in ages. Baring in mind i like the Resident evils you can tell i dont ask for much in a film. But Jumper was just terrible.

Appie there is a "number" in that title. But i agree, Lucky Number Slevin is brilliant. The twists were brilliant and the dialogue was class.
Regional title difference. Some parts of Europe just called it Slevin.

Save yourself and go read the book. Then recognize that John Travolta was just attempting to push a Scientology agenda by getting people interested in L Ron Hubbard so they would stumble upong Dianetics. He pushed that movie from the moment the book was published.

The Brave One - Jodie Foster is the new Harrison Ford. OK, maybe not quite, but they both used to be good, now they are just plain silly on screen.
Harrison Ford silly on screen? You can't insult Dr. Jones like that.

The titles I'm aware of are Lucky Number Slevin, Lucky # Slevin, Lucky Number S7evin and The Wrong Man.

Courtesey of IMDB.

Watched Michael Clayton yesterday, good movie. I also started to watch We Own The Night but had to stop halfway through it, probably will finish it next weekend.

Dude, don't get me wrong, I love Dr. Jones[/shortround]. But how about his on-screen performances lately? Horrid.
I think it is because he has been too focused on trying to get Indy 4 made for the last five years, which is why he has only been averaging one every couple of years. Just enough to pay the bills and keep him relevant.

I actually liked What Lies Beneath and K-19 and I think in K-19 the only problem there was the directing, not Ford. As for Hollywood Homicide and Firewall, well I haven't seen Firewall and Hollywood Homicide was ruined by Josh Hartnett.

In his defense he is ancient... no?
Yeah I think Indy 4 is unofficially called Indiana Jones and the search for Harrison Ford.

Into The Blue
I'll admit it. I only watched it for Jessica. But who hasn't?

But on to the movie, I have to say it was enjoyable, but I felt it had a lot of "What happened there" moments such as Jared's friend just disappearing after the stabbing, or the sharks just suddenly being brought in as killers despite that sharks will normally bite & let go. Seemed be a lot of deaths just done on purpose to add to the story, though, like the coke girl who *gasp* died by shark attack. Walker also acted a bit like he did in F&F with his whole, 'WTF man!" attitude.

But again, pretty enjoyable movie. Just 1 of those films to sit & watch when you just want to watch something different. Have to add the music of the movie was great. A lot of it fit the moods well.

And yes...Alba was gorgeous as hell in the movie. There, I said it.
