I've always wondered what other people use when they write.

I use this, I can't write with anything else:

Mechanical 0.5 2H lead.

I need to try some of Staedtler's mechanical pencils...

Edit: HB sucks! 2H ftw!

Whatever's available, usually a yellow No.2 from the company that the schools buy from (Dixon Ticonderoga?).

I use a pen mostly. If I need a pencil I just pick up whatever pencil is nearest on the closest desk.

I use mechanical, I don't do wood. Unless sometimes when I need to draw, but even then, only occasionally I use a 2B

^ Those pilot pens are my favorite in the whole world and I cannot buy them here in Holland... And if I can I have no idea where... When I was growing up in the US, that was the pen I used in school.... Mostly black ones... :) I don't use pencils much...

I usually use whatever I can find. Preferably a mechanical 0.5mm one.

While that is what I use, what I actually have is a bit different. For some reason I really like having different thicknesses of mechanical pencils. So I have a 0.3mm pencil, a couple of 0.5mm ones, some 0.7mm ones, a 1mm one and a 1.3mm one all safely stored in a box somewhere.

I don't actually use them apart from the 0.5 ones from time to time, I just like the idea of having them.

I use a 0.07mm/0.05mm mechanical pencil to draw, but I am trying to go into #2 pencils for shading. I also use ballpoint pens whenever I'm not drawing.

Dixon Ticonderogas exclusively. While a lot of it has to do with the fact that it's the best feeling pencil by miles for me, the other part of why I use them exclusively is because one of my friends bought me 96 of them for my birthday three years ago, and I still haven't used them up yet.

I'm on my last wooden pencil(Halfway used now) of my 48 pack that I got before I started high school. They are of the staples brand and I've used the same set for 6 years now. I use pencils all of the time and I rarely use a pen for anything. So I'm thinking by the time it's March will be the time for me to get a new big pack of pencils.

Dixon Ticonderoga. Fantastic work of art that pencil. Quality graphite and no bite. The Classic model in a number two grade is always my top choice when it comes to graphite based writing utensils. PaperMate American is another good choice. Lovely pencil, that.

On that note, pencils that I absolutely loathe are the Sanford Eagle. Worst. Pencil. Ever.

All this talk about pencils has got me worked up! I think I'll go write a paper.

They really are the best. With the exception of my grandfather's pens. It's pretty amazing, but it seems like no matter what pen he's using, it's just fantastic. Maybe it's because he uses it like literally all day long in his practice, but he always has a fantastic pen in his pocket.

Whenever I'm in dire need of a pen (because people thief them from my desk) I like to make pens: grab a few pens and make a Frankenstein pen. But when I do have a pen, it's usually the BIC 730R gel pen I use Ticonderoga pencils for all my other duties.

What is the name of that pencil that looks like a Ticonderoga but has that God-Awful soft lead?

Liquid ink pens, gives more definition to your writing, but you have to write fast because, it can bleed through 5 papers in 3 seconds flat.

I recommend 4-6B for shading instead of 2Bs... you will actually get something closer to black than that ugly gray.

I like to use a B pencil, I think the make is Fabel Castelle but I may have the name somewhat wrong.

What is the difference of B and HB?

Black & Hard Black. Pencils are graded by shade, so 6H is the darkest, while 6B is the lightest. HB is the balance between the two.

Thank you, kind lad.
