What pencil/pen/kugelschreiber/stylo do you use?

HB 2 :D

Dixon Ticonderoga. Fantastic work of art that pencil. Quality graphite and no bite. The Classic model in a number two grade is always my top choice when it comes to graphite based writing utensils. PaperMate American is another good choice. Lovely pencil, that.

On that note, pencils that I absolutely loathe are the Sanford Eagle. Worst. Pencil. Ever.

All this talk about pencils has got me worked up! I think I'll go write a paper.

Have you ever tried one of the old non-Ticonderoga Dixons? Those things are awful.:yuck:

Even for drawing, I try to use the hardest pencil I can find because most of the time I ink over my pencils, and also -this might be the biggest reason- because the way in how I grab the pencil when I draw is VERY weird, I tend to pass the bottom of my hand all over the drawing surface, making it all dirty and pencil-stained, so I cannot use pencils that are too soft... well, I can, but I'll end up with a gray drawing lol.

This is also a problem when inking, as you can imagine, so I'm always on the look for ballpens that wont leave blobls of ink behind, because that's too dangerous for me. They are getting harder and harder to find.

A bit off topic. But did anyone else get bored as a kid and sharpen your pencil as far as you could?

It would always end up like this:

One of my friends was able to sharpen it down to the metal casing that holds the eraser. Or in other words, a bit shorter than the depicted image.

I've been using this for 2 years, and been using it for writing and drawing. The grip has kind of worn out but the body and everything is still holding up like it's still brand new. Writes really well too!

The pencil that lasted longest was one I found that was a little longer than this. It lasted me 2 or 3 years! Then I lost it.

Normally use one like this, and as a added bonus the red painted bit at the end tastes good. Eating the end of pencils ftw!

I use a 0.7mm mechanical pencil. I can't find any of my 0.5mm mechanical pencils, so I've been using 0.7mm since. I've found the writing to be pretty similar between the two; quality of lead is almost more important.

I don't remember the last time I used a regular old school, non-mechanical pencil.

I can't stand 0.7mm pencils. When they get dull, which they inevitably will, the marks they leave is just unbelievably thick. I like 0.5mm lead, much sharper. :)

If I use a mechanical pencil, I prefer to use a 0.9mm for the graphite. I write with a heavy hand. So anything less than 0.9 breaks too easily for me.

If I remember correct from my childhood, 2B pencils gives a darker shade and HB pencils gives a lighter shade. I always hated HB pencils because writing with one always seem so 'stiff'. The lead just feels so hard. Sometimes it will scratch and tear through the paper if I apply too much pressure. But if I don't apply enough pressure, the blackness? of the words I write will be very light and look dull. I prefer 2B pencil because of the softness? of the lead. It feels better writing with a 2B and the words will be darker compared to HB.

Yes, I did that all the time (and still do in fact!). I did what Technicolors' friend did on numerous occasions, it was great fun. My friends and I would have competitions to see who could get their pencil the shortest...and we still used them in class.

I usually write with one of my mechanical pencils I found in 6th grade. This year I saw it laying around the house when I was in dire need of a pencil so I just took it. This is the longest time I've brought and used a pencil at school, two months! The only downside to this pencil is it likes to use led a lot. At least it's not like my other Mechanical pencils which will break when I pressed a little too hard, this one keeps on going! It also has a metal tip on the end which can help if I get in a fight.

When I use regular pencils I use Ticonderoga's. I only have one left now though, and I've heard they've stopped production in the US, so it might get a little hard finding them now.

My least favorite are the pure wood pencils, the one's with no coating on them. They hurt my fingers so much!

Yeah, mate. Back in 2001 when I was in Standard 1, I used to write using a HB pencil because as you stated, it's not too dark and it's stiff. I have a real stiff and harsh hand and I will simply break any 2B lead. I like those until in 2003 my teacher wasn't that happy with the fact that she couldn't read what I wrote due to the intensity of the carbon on the paper (I think you know what I mean). She forced me to use a 2B pencil and whow, how much I hate it at first. Very soft, easily broken, makes my writing look like 🤬 but soon I get used to it.

Until today, I just can never write with a HB pencil anymore. It just feels out of place. However, I'm still using the HB pencil for some drawing sketch and that means eventhough it receives quite a lot of hate from people around me, in the end it's still pretty useful!

And never really gets 'sharp' without the tip breaking?

yeah, and it's some unnamed brand. My parents bought hundreds of packs of those pencils for ten bucks and they all smelled heavily of lead paint and broke easily, so we returned all 100 packs. :D
