Well, I don't suppose you could take a ton of meaning away from a discussion such as this one. It's fun to bat ideas around every so often.

I'm finding it really difficult to say anything remotely meaningful on this subject. It's a head game, nothing more. You can't just remove an inestimably significant chunk of history and conjecture the outcome.

...well I guess you can but I don't see the point.

Yeah it's a head game, and this planet of ours would be very different if United States never existed. We probably never have the Internet, United Nations. Peacably protesting your grievances to government leaders, and having a place to worship without fear of getting killed or put into prision.

I don't want to take anything away. It's just that almost everything can be true. The history of the U.S. is truly global, for better or worse. It's just impossible to estimate.

I will say that the world would not be as good as it is today. The U.S., whether you like it or not, changed the world for the better and served as an example for other countries.

Today? I'm just not sure anymore. Looks like the U.S. is undoing much of what it accomplished in it's past.

I think someone would have thought of the internet. It began life as a DOD design to leep the lines of communication open in the event of nuclear devastation. Surely some other country would have seen the practicality of such a flexible networking system. When and how, I can't say.

Well, this is all very true.

I'd also like to state for the record (once again) that I did not vote for GWB. Not that it would have made a difference... ;)

Worst questions ever! All these questions are America-only. Slavery was abolished worldwide long before it was abolished in the United States, same for women voting, and so on.

The real question:

What would you guys do without an RS Focus?

Probably the same you guys did before you finally got the WRX - pretended.

No they wouldn't have.

They lost to the Americans, one of the least-organised actual bands of military, and certainly THE least-organised band of actual military in North America. I bet the French would've whipped 'em.

Americans only won because we invented Gurilla Warfare.

But what would you be pretending with?! Like, Xsaras?
No - I wouldn't do that to you. I was referring to the old RS Impreza. You've got the car - just not the engine or suspension (although having driven the current RS I would have to say it's no bad thing).

See - I can twist any thread into an ad for Subaru...

Yeah...I remember when the RS came out in the States. Suby enthusiats had been crying out for the WRX for years, and Fuji Heavy gives us WRX Jr. We snapped 'em up just so Subaru would be convinced that we'd buy WRXes... ;)

I'd rather have a four-door blue RS than a four-door blue WRX. Everyone has a WRX these days...

Mmmm....how many recalls on the Focus again? And the Impreza?

Heh, sorry, I mean the Impreza 2.5 RS when I said "RS." The 2.5 RS is the one we got before we got the turbo, and in blue and four-door, it was more than rare. I haven't seen one in months.

But, frankly, I'd rather have a Focus RS than a WRX, too. Doesn't the RS get something like 210 horsepower?! And it looks stellar doing it, too...

Plus, the RS isn't made in Mexico like the recalled Focuses. :)

The world would stink if U.S. never existed. I can imagine mass suicides and chaos everywhere.
cannibalism and disease would be common.
People would be living in trees flinging crap at each other..
Sounds a little like NewJersey in the summer.

Well, obviously.

Would there be any Ford at all?
Why do we need Ford when we've got Holden?

If America never existed, Australia's dollar would be worth more in other countries.
