Its amazing how when you gather the fastest drivers in the nation, how humble everyone gets. I know even fix feels a little humble because he has been battling back and forth for the top spots on some tracks. I used to be able to relax and just do what I do, now I have to search for speed in every corner because everyone else is doing the same.

When I was in iRacing I never really competed for TT's, I won several races though which is completely different than this. I think battling for time trials is harder because everyone has found their fastest lap and even gotten lucky a few times and pulled some super laps which makes this an almost endless chase. I will be glad to make it to round two then put on my suicide boots, all or nothing hahaha

As of posting -
Northeast: 3rd
Overall: 5th

I'm getting used to the DFGT, and moved from 8th back up to 5th by taking off over 0.3s at Cape. I blew a couple laps that would have taken off another 0.2, maybe 0.3, but I trust those will come as I get more consistent with the pedals.

Back in contention for the last couple playseats...but I'm going to need to work on Tsukuba (1 tenth) and Rome (a few tenths) as well because 1:05's and 1:21.5's are getting old quickly thanks to Fix giving everyone the answer key via his lighting fast ghost.

Great work blindside. Now go take the rest of the week off! :scared:

Whats with you people? all i want is a DFGT, is that too much to ask for? Just let me stay in the top 10 this week then you guys can have the leaderboards all to yourselves :grumpy:

*walks away mumbling to self about having to do more work*

You don't have to do any more work. The movement is slowing down towards the top, and you don't actually need top 10. Now that 2 weeks are over you need top 5 outside of the 10 who have already won. Here's the list (courtesy of gman's google doc posted in a separate thread):

Week 1 - fix, choate, kris, ferris, hunk
Week 2 - chiefdnd, s_diem, jpe, crymsonecho, me

If you take out all of those drivers, you are literally in 1st place. 👍👍 6th place (minus those names) is about 1/2 second slower than you right now. So you might be alright for this week even with your current times.

Last night I shaved about 0.7 seconds off Cape Ring and about 0.5 off Rome. Now sitting at 57 in SE and 243 nationally. Finally got on the top 250 national leaderboard. Think if I learn how to use MT better I might be able to shave a bunch more off (currently using automatic). Never bothered to get better before because my hands didn't work well with the controller, but now that I have a wheel should be easier.

Feeling the heat? :sly:

You shouldn't...I have a lot of work to take off the 1/2 second it would take to catch you.

Are you lapping on your lunch break or something? I just saw you posted an updated Rome time - nice effing work getting into the 1:21.2's. I'll have to take a look at your replay since you are probably the alien most similar to my driving style. However, for now I'm going to try to get that 2:45.2 that I blew a couple times last night at the Cape.

Nah I work 3rd shift so I usually play during the daytime.

Rome is killing me because I can't string my lap together. Realistically I'm leaving .200 on the table and I won't be satisfied until I hit it. If I lose out on a playseat because of .200 then I won't forgive myself.

On Cape I'd be happy with a 2:45.1. A 2:44.9 would be the magic for me.

I find this quite refreshing. Nothing could be more motivational than a humble competition.

I'm super impressed with you guys putting up these unreal lap times and ranking in the top. I think I'm ranked between 4000 and 6000 in each of the races.

Just checked and I am currently:

Midwest- #122

Overall- #582

I need to hit Cape hard and try and loose as much time as possible. My current fastest time is a hair over 6 seconds slower. Only about 1.5 seconds off the top time on Tsukuba and Rome.

Just managed to take just over 2 seconds off my Cape time!! Down to 2.49.808. Puts me 79th for that track in my region!

After falling all the way to #179 I'm now at:

Midwest - #111

Just made it into the 511 club!

I took a .129 off my Rome time and I now sit at 5.11.981!

I am psyched, I didn't think I would get there to be honest.

Dude we are glued to each other on the leaderboards!
As soon as I gain a little, you gain a little more. 👍 The competition is def getting tight up top, but I am just having too much fun actually playing the game. I race easyin bout 3-4 times a week around Nurburgring in 111/R RM, Miatas a couple times a week, and I finally reached level 30 tonight and got to try the X2010 (without having it gifted to me :sly:). I pimped out the ACR Viper yesterday and was doing 4th gear 120mph rolling burnouts... GTAcademy is taking a backseat until the next round I believe.

I'm hitting a wall with Rome...if I get the kink down then I lose ~.2 on the last turn every time... I hate the kink too...makes this track my least favorite to do.

I'm also hitting a wall on Tsukuba because of turn 7...I just can't seem to get enough exit speed.

Thats exactly what i'm saying, i spend most of my time racing online and will occasionally glance at the leaderboards to see how far down i've been pushed, if i get knocked out of the top ten then i'll have a go but it feels more like a chore. Hopefully round 2 has some interesting/fun combos :) Congrats to those at the top 👍

Congrats Choate! But uh...what took you so long? Haha, jk. You may not have thought you would make it but I never had a doubt.

Looks like chiefdnd is in, too, with blindside on his way. Its getting too crowded in here...I liked it better when there were only 3 of us. :nervous:

So now that you guys are in, you all should just chill out for the rest of the week. You don't wanna get burnt out in the first round. There are still two more rounds to go!

Ok, now if you will excuse me, I need to start a 4 hour hotlapping session. :)

First I want to say this whole community is awesome.

I got gt5 on a lark because I had some amazon credit. Got a DFGT for Christmas. The game was getting kind of boring with the standard controller. got more fun with the steering wheel(but harder). Now that I have found this competition and the gtplanet community, I am totally hooked!

Ranked 46th in the west and 144 overall. Looking forward to the GTP_ series. Not sure what it is yet, but I am excited.

I would like to think I'm on my way too, but it's just not coming together.

Last night I had a long session, and this morning I got about 45 minutes. I'm running a bunch of 2:45.5-.7, but nothing faster. I use Kris's ghost for reference because we are similar pace when I only make very minor mistakes, if any. I've been up 0.3 in the 3rd sector, but always manage to blow it. I even got a 48.650 in sector 1 last night (ended up at a disappointing 2:45.6), and 2 1:25.2s through sector 2, but managed to lose a couple tenths here and there. I can go faster everywhere by at least 1 tenth - maybe I should try hypno-therapy or something so I can sting together a 2:44.9...(Sectors would have to be 48.6, 1:25.1, 2:18.9)

Wooo! Those are killer splits!! I've had those too, this track is just too long and hairy and it almost always gets you somewhere.

Well your lucky your in the midwest. They have by far the slowest 32nd place.

yeah, my 10th in the NE would buy me 4th in the Midwest.
I'm still not sure why they even bothered with regional play to begin with. It's online time trial top 32 in the country, who cares where they're from. Staying in the top 8 for the West and NE is way more difficult than staying in the top 32 nationally.

Wait.. I think I might be confused. Is It the top 128 from each region that make it to round 2? Or is it 32 from each region make it to round 2(for a total of 128 people0?

The biggest problem I foresee with the regional play is what happens after round 2. The top 16 from each region move on but 16 in the northeast is 53rd overall while 16 in the midwest is 103rd overall. Ideally you'd have the top 64 in the final 64 in my mind, 103 means that alot of faster guys will be missing out :(
Of course, thats all speculation at this point because round 2 is dependent on round 2 events not the round 1 events :D

The 128 contestants with the highest scores from each Region will move on to Round 2. In the event of a tie, the contestant with the fastest time in the “Main” time trial event (deemed to be more challenging by Sponsor as tie-breaker event) will be deemed to have the higher score.

Im pretty sure its top 32 from each region that make it to round 2.

It's the top 128 (sorry I know I'm repeating myself) from each region so Chris at 79th you're pretty much good to go :D
I'm 60th in the northeast and got a lot left on the track :D I just can't stop competing! I was up .834 on my cape ring ghost and lost it ALL in sector 3 last night. I suck at sector 3...I can keep up with fix thru sector one and then it all goes downhill....

Master Zissou, I don't doubt that you've hit those splits (or faster) before. 👍

You are right - stringing the lap together is a pain. You can be on pace for a 2:45.1 heading into the last segment, and JUST miss the apex after the ring and lose 1/2 second instantly.:banghead:

I'm hoping to more consistently get 48.8's and .7's, and turn more of those into 1:25.2's and .3's to give myself a better chance at the magic lap. Unfortunately to consistently hit those marks, we are talking an absurd number of laps.

...although it's probably a good thing I can't put it together. I don't want Hulk Hunk to fly over and beat my ass if I start to get close to his playseat

Wow!! I just checked an your right! I swear they changed it. I could have swore it said top 32 when the Academy was first announced. Here i have been working on my times ALLOT the last few days to try and get in the top 32. sweet. It looks like i made it to the second round then unless a whole lot of people just stop sandbagging all of a sudden.

Haha that would be a ton of sandbaggers ;) Knowing how tight the northeast is maybe I should move south one state or west one state and come outa nowhere :D
