What's your real life benchmark?

It was the Peugeot 207, but the rear wheel just unplugged of the car and it rolled over.
I was so happy because i finally will compare real life with GT5 in the same car !
Now, i send a letter to Peugeot but they don't anwsered it, now i'll try to take the legal ways to have my rights.

Dude push Peugeot for compensation! A vehicle shouldn't have a wheel come off! Maybe that's why they're not sold in the U.S. of A.

Well, I've driven a few cars, but my everyday car is a Focus ST-2 with a Mountune upgrade. I drive on track every other month, at various locations, usually Brands Hatch because it closest to where I live. I've done Silverstone, and the Nurburgring twice, plus lots of other club tracks around the UK. Driven some awesome cars, V8 Vantage, DB9, Impreza STI'09, Scirocco GT, Clio 182 Trophy and... an older ARP F3 Opel racer on slick Avon rubber!

How doe's GT compare? Hummm.... its obviously not the same as real life, there is no rush of blood so to speak. But GT is impressive for such a static experience. The graphics and car movement physics impress me, as they mimic a real car and how it moves at speed and through compressions very well. The noise, is flat tbh, you don't get the growl from the engine, but that might be due to a lack of vibrations too... Otherwise, GT doe's exactly what its supposed to... BE THE ULTIMATE DRIVING SIMULATOR! :sly:

And yes, I'll love GT til the day I die! 👍

My current car is a dinky little Peugeot 206, but we're changing soon to a new model Ford Focus. Having kids and all that....
I have in the past driven a brilliant 500bhp+ R33 Skyline GT-R, which made me wet my pants both in delight and terror all at once :D

In the most recent Top Gear episode (13x04) Jeremy drove a drug dealer's white w/ black wheels 500BHP Evo VII with a huge turbo, upgraded suspension and brakes, and weight reduction. That's the first thing I'll get.

@ Dracwolley - awesome avatar!

On a straight line, Ive driven an EVO at 145.
Ive also driven a yellow Maserati at 40 (Test Drove) lol.

81 trans am (with a chevy 383). similar platform to the camaro in gt4. and as far as i can tell, neither turns very well. *shrug*

you mean 400bhp(no huge turbo there was a standard engine with what looked like an exhaust even still had the standard intercooler) if he was lucky and standard weight.....

an evo with 320cv ???? i dont think so

2.4lt max i think

you can get 2.6 litre ones.

Well let's say GT5P or GT4. The Golf GTi and Mini Cooper did not feel anything like the real ones. GT was still a bit too fake. It did things which the real life counterparts could not in the corners. I think people are blind sighted thinking that the GT series has the best physics ever (and even curse me etc), but I realized...most of these guys aren't even real life drivers. They are like 14 to 16 and so on.

Actually... it's more of the other way around... the cars didn't do things in GT4 that they could do in real life.

In other words, where the GT4 model was realistic in terms of understeer under braking, corner balance, compression and so on and so forth... the effects of trail-braked oversteer, the good ol' Scandinavian flick and others were almost totally absent in other portions.

The physics in GT4 were geared to preventing tires coming off the ground. Yes, they did it when you jumped a kerb, but you could never tripod a car in GT4.

The lack of this sort of loss of adhesion meant that a whole level of car behaviors was not available in GT4... aside from oversteer due to the previously mentioned... you could not tune in oversteer by specifying a real heavy rear anti-rollbar... since the rear tires would not skip as they would in real life.

GT5P gets this better. Much better. Still not perfect. Still no sidewall deformation (but then, without control over tire pressures, this point is kind of moot... GT5P probably assumes we're all riding at a rockhard 40 psi  ). But much better than many other previous GTs and many other concurrent console games.

Not the best, but pretty good. The behaviour of many cars that I have driven in real-life is well-modelled... the Focus is a joy to drive... there's that familiar soft-edge/great dynamics to the chassis... the Honda Integra... well... they got it right in the last game... pointy with extra mid-corner understeer versus the Focus, as the rear end isn't quite as keen to play... and it's the same here.

The new Mazda6... love this car. In real life, at 8/10ths, it's lovely to drive. But... driven at 10/10ths on the racetrack, it understeers like a stuck pig... and this is exactly what GT5P shows.

The Subaru is a neat trick. Very softish and vague on turn-in, with lots of roll, but ultimately very capable. Just like in real-life.

I wish they'd include more entry-level / mid-level BMWs. From what I know of BMW dynamics, the behaviors are mostly correct (though I've never driven an M3 or 135i at 10/10ths), but it would be nice to compare GT's idea of an X5 or X6 with the real thing.

@niky

thanks for the detail, definately interesting Reading your opinion. It does seem quite accurate when comparing my experiences.

Isn't the CD the compact version of the 3 series? - or is it the coupe version?

I drive a Golf mkIV GT TDI 130 at the moment... don't think it's been in any GT game yet!!!

Other cars over my 12 years driving were Fiat Bravo 1.6 (100BHP), Rover 200 2.0TD (105BHP), Pug 206 1.4 (no HP), Suzuki Cappuccino (67BHP), VW Beetle 1.3(42BHP (very approx!)), Renault 19 1.7 (95BHP) and a Renault 19 1.4 (80BHP)

So the car that is in GT - is the Cuppa... and I have to say the ingame equivalent is poor... The stock Cappuccino can get from 0-60 in 8 seconds... this is similar to a stock Toyota MR2... (7.8) in game however - to 60 the MR2 annihilates the Cappuccino...
(of course in real life the Cuppa can't go over 95 (limited to 90) but they remove that for the game)
The Cuppa has very quick (for it's size) acceleration upto 60 - not much over that - but this isn't really modelled very well IMHO.

hmm for me its going to be any of the following

99 Holden Commodore,
08 Toyota Hilux Turbo Diesel
02 BMW 7.35Li
06 BMW 6.45Ci
05 Lamborghini Gallardo
65 Mustang Convertible (289ci)
03 Toyota Land Cruiser V8 GXL
04 Holden Monaro CV8

I have had a lot of seat time in many Japanese imports (grey imports mostly) especially Skylines, aswell as Holdens and Falcons and a few american cars (Camaro, Firebird) depending on what exact models are added to GT5.

Current road cars
Porsche 911 (996) C2, Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi.

Previous cars include...
Hilman Avenger (rally prepared)
Datsun 160j SSS
Escort RS2000
Escort RS Turbo
Subaru Impreza 'Series McRae'
Various 4 door rep mobiles

Motorsports experience
1 season of pro-karts
Lots of one off karting events
Some single venue rally experience in a Astra GTE and a Rover V8 powered Opel Manta

Other stuff driven on track
Formula Palmer Audi
Formula Ford
Jaguar JP1
Clio Sport touring car
Evo VI
VX220 Turbo
Caterhams
993 GT3RS

1984 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet (Euro spec)
1991 Mazda Miata (modified)

Definitely not the fastest cars out on the track or the autocross, but in terms of handling and driver feedback, they're both hard to beat.

you see that EG four door on my profile, that's the SRinc.'s EG_8 Si, and yes i tune my own cars in real life. to compare it to a Gran Turismo car ummm id have to say something Spoon or Mugen with awful camber but some how managed to grip even the wettest surfaces here in South Florida. wouldnt say this is my benchmark per se, because my current DA9 would have a field day with the EG_8 Si, the DA id compare to a DC2 Type-R with a superb suspension, but lacking grip, i have the tendency to burnout to piss off neighbors!

My car history:

Hillman Imp (twin carbs, high lift cam, flared arches, white weller steel rims, Guns n Roses album cover painted on the bonnet, etc - I was young!!!)
Renault Clio 1.4RT
Ford Sierra Sapphire 1.8
Mitsubishi Galant Estate 2.0
Mitsubishi FTO GR (chipped)
Ford Mondeo 2.0 CDTi
Audi A6 Avant 2.4 Multitronic (CVT) - Current family runabout

Been on a track day and driven:

Jaguar XKR
Aston Martin DB9
Porsche Carerra 2 (997)
Ferarri 550 Maranello
Lamborghini Gallardo

Definitely plan on getting an FTO (or several really) plus the Galant VR4 (or Legnum version) in the game.

Could never quite get the FTO set-up right in the game, so hoping to get it sorted at last in GT5...

EDIT: Forgot to add my parents 2 classic Paramounts. Cookie to anyone who knows anything about them... :)

Audi A4 3.2,
Audi S3,
Fiat 500 abarth SS (honestly is more fun to drive than the S3),

Currenty driving a 500 automatic, slow ass edition, while waiting for the Mk6 Golf Gti to arrive...

P.S.

I've also tryed a Continental GT speed.... but not for long enough for me to say I drove it... (was a 15 min drive) but woooooooow, is not racy but sure its fast!

a 99' nissan micra or nissan march as its known in gran turismo.

i get the odd chance to drive a twin turbo supra now and then, but thats about it

Current cars:

Opel Corsa 1.7 Diesel '97 <- very very economical (was in GT2 but the GSi version)
Opel Vectra GTS '03 (the same in GT4 but mine is the 2.2 turbodiesel + chipped)

Past cars:

Ford Escort MK1 1.3 GT '70
